Would selling items in auction to all planets hurt or help planet economies?

I was wondering if the auction was changed so that all items that can’t be looted in space could be sold to anyone from anywhere would help some planets struggling economies?

There would still need to be a fee for getting the items to you like there used to be with The Asteroid and CP.

Anything that could be looted in space would be something no one could bid on unless on the planet that it is being sold on.

Please post your feelings about this. I will maybe add a poll to it later too.

It will immensely help. I always wanted this back. This way supply demand void will be minimized. Look what’s happening IRL it is a world market now. Better competition etc etc… L

I think they are in the process of creating “Elite” in which resources are scarce on some planets and plentiful on others, which encourages players to fly between them transporting goods and others to become predators preying on those trader players.

I see the vision but its early days yet.

But in RL goods still need to be transported. In RL you can’t just buy something on eBay and have it teleport to you. By keeping the auction seperate it creates oppurtunity for players.

I think is would hurt overall, although it would have some benefits, too. Separate auctions are part of maintaining the separation (not isolation) between planetary economies. Planets will remain separated by time, distance, and money - it is a core concept of EU, even if most people don’t appreciate it (and I say this as someone who’s play is hampered by the current situation).

Yes and you pay the transport/postage cost … You don’t go and pick it up from china ??? … Your point? :scratch2:

Point is, that SOMEONE picks it up, then they make money off of the transporting of it. It’s the same oppurtunity here. You see a shortage of something and a demand for it, their is nothing stoping you from transporting those goods yourself and making a few PED for it. Or stoping anyone else for that matter.
Shipping company in RL is no different then an interplentary trader in game.(and some RL shipping companies also need to deal with pirates)

Again , how it is transported is beside the point … If you want to buy something on eBay from china, you don’t go to china to login to eBay from there to buy it?? … You can still see what sellers are selling in china from wherever you are …

And in EU you can still see what is being sold no matter what planet you are on. And how it is transported is not beside the point. The way the AU used to work was an automated system, the current system is manual. You compared to RL, and in RL the system is not automatic, the goods still need to be manualy transported.

As far as transporting the goods MA could make it so we have to go to each auctioneer to get the items too if you want it to be that realistic.

I certainly don’t want that though. I think the fee is plenty enough realism for MA to implement. Unless they want to make it so players could transport the items from auction to auction on different planets as a mission.

Remember the resources and other things that can be looted in space pvp would not be a part of an interplanetary auctioneer system. Those would still need to be purchased directly on the planet and picked up on the same planet. That would keep the resource supply and demand as currently intended. They should also add market info that shows planet specific sales mark up. You could choose the planet you want to see the market value from the info windows. :wtg:

Now that’s a good idea. MA could act as the shipping company, players could ship the goods and take a cut of the fee.

Maybe make it so only crafted items can be added to this auctioneer system?:scratch2:

Should have added that to the poll.:duh:

I don’t see that this change actually helps smaller economies. Looking at it from my perspective: I make arkadian weapons. The majority of weapon crafters are grinding caly bps. It makes it easier for them to sell their excess p5a’s etc accross the planets. Cost of crafting is cheaper on caly compared to other planets so chances are they can offer weapons equivalent to Arkadian weapons at cheaper MU.

So it becomes harder to sell my weapons through auction and through my shops.

That is where the transport fee comes in to help balance that out.:better:

Yes it’s good. More activity is good and helps everyone. Some people who invested heavily in becoming delivery services will suffer in the short term, but more activity can’t help but improve the economy.

I don’t think additional transport fees should be added beyond current seller’s fees. Again, additional fees cause less activity. More activity = good.

Hurt, I believe. I’m of the opinion that the less economic trophic levels that are bypassed due to in-game automatic mechanisms, the better the economy will work.

When a few of us were in the initial stages of considering a planet design to be a planet partner, I proposed an auction that actually charged transport fees according to distance ON the planet, with a trader job created that would be able to transport those goods from the source to destination for some share of transportation costs. This makes shops more viable and allows for the irregular dispersion of resources to create markets and opportunities, much as it does IRL. Obviously, such a system only works in a planet without free, instantaneous transportation (i.e. TPs), which also reduce the potential for planetary diversity and local development.

and the tp fees that hanger owners collected in the past was not an ‘opportunity’?.. They could re-add that to help out hanger owners, and then do likewise by re-adding the ‘transport fee’ in auction to allow interplanetary trading.

Something else they ought to add is a shop directory someday… all those shops might have something worth buying but few do since they don’t want to take the time to look around for the stuff. Like it or not nowadays people are after ‘instant gratification’ both irl and in game. MA ought to tap in to that want/need.

I think it would hurt the “struggling” economies instead of helping them. If planets’ economies are struggling, it’s because their developers have not delivered a complete, working economy that appeals to players. And no amount of imports and exports is going to improve an economy which is designed improperly or which does not have the necessary population to “keep the ball rolling”.

For interplanetary trade, why not just use the existing system? It seems to be working pretty well so far… spaceships and space traders. They’ll do the job for you if they can squeeze out just a few percent profit. If you’re willing to pay a few percent fee to Mindark for magical teleportation of stackables, why not pay a real person a few percent for the same job?

Let’s not ask MA to step in and take the place of players. If we’re going to do that, we might as well just add all items to the TT, then we can order everything we need directly from Mindark so we don’t have to rely on hunters, miners, and crafters. We would have a blast for about a day, then we’d realize we have no more reason to play because all our loot has suddenly become TT food. It’s MU that keeps the game alive.

Hello,

it would help people on the one side and be a pain for people on the other side.

I personally like the system of travel like it is. Makes it more real.

Sadly there are enough tricks at the moment to bypass limits of auction slots, shop item points and minimize travel already.

Like creating several avatars which are registered on family members who dont play entropia at all but the avatars are used by the same person to stock up goods without travel. No problem with that if these avatars where played by the registered persons though as cooperation can and should always give advantage over people who play alone thats the open competition but in some cases that is not amusing. Specially not for those who travel around and even give jobs to others to stock up etc. to take the competition for real.

That should be solved somehow. Not easy though as you can’t use an IP-Login Limit of 1 player per IP. Here are really families who play from the same connection for real…

Can’t imagine any technical solution for that at the moment. But it won’t be wrong to have one I think.

So voted a No for the auction change. Help economy by getting players into your coop/network be my suggestion.

Greets,
