Greetings Colonists,

Today we would like to share with you some minor changes that will happen in an upcoming release. While these changes are small, we wanted to provide you with information ahead of time.
However, we want to be very clear - these changes are a trial that we will review at a later point.

[HEADING=1]Oil Rigs[/HEADING]
Ashi Oil Rig is a great area for players to get involved early with PvP, and of course the chance to grab some oil for themselves. One of the issues facing this area is the mix between PvE and PvP - most notably when players often drag creatures into the area to “grief” or otherwise disrupt the area. This is not only frustrating for players, but also disincentivises PvP due to high-tier limited PvP gear taking decay from mob trains. We want Ashi Oil Rig to be more of a pure PvP arena, and open up more options so we are making some changes as follows:
[ol]
[li]Turrets around the oil rig area to prevent creatures from being dragged in, and keep it PvP focused[/li][li]Ground and Flying vehicles will be permitted in the PvP Zone[/li][li]Vehicles will not be allowed in the immediate oil spawning area to prevent camping inside wrecks[/li][li]Pets will not be allowed in the PvP Zones (Orthos + Ashi)[/li][li]The amount of oil per drop at the rig will be tripled (for Ashi) to make PvP more rewarding there[/li][/ol]
In conjunction with this, we will also be reopening Orthos Oil Rig (located near Camp Icarus) to incentivize more activity in that area, and offer something interesting for new players in the game to experience.

We will be looking at other PvP things, including Land Grab in the future.

As long as that extra oil money isn’t coming from lowering my tt returns lol … tank battle Royale?

MindArk: Adds turrets for PVE control
Shared Loot Mob: Exists

Jokes aside, great changes. Love it!

Might have been a good idea to have it drop like the good old days. All around the monument instead of just at the pump. Used to be some insane soc battles back then. Great update though ?

What are we talking about these days?
Must have been 15 years since I visited the rig and I’m curious how much it drops now.

There are some specific turrets that kill shared mobs, we have at least one of this on NI, so this might be not an issue if they add both types of turrets or jus make new turrets that kill both types.

It’s good to put forward suggestions! The reasoning I feel it’s good to keep the drop zone “tight” is it gives a more clear area to fight for control over, and defend from anyone else wanting to get in on the drops. If the drop zone is the whole rig, it becomes impossible as a solo or small gang to stop an opportunist from yoinking some oil.

But, will absolutely consider it!

also news on RED PVP zone? should be nice to see it lively like old days

Going by triple what it drops now, that will be about on par to what it dropped 15 years ago. No jokes btw. It’s around 3 ped now and was about 9 ped 15 years ago

Yep, it will average around 10 PED drop once these changes go live. (And Orthos will be at 3).

Fair point. Although from what I can remember back then you did get the opportunistic players yoinking the oil but that was were the challenge was. Finding and keeping them out. Was also fun when you had all the obstacles to play off of. We used to have players running around the ground and others on the platforms looking out and playing from hight. But still like I said great change and will definitely be worth a visit again to see how this plays out

Ohhh spoiler. Orthos is live again also?

Yeah it’s in the OP at the end. We will be reopening Orthos Oil Rig with this change.

My two pecs.

Mob training is quite a nostalgic thing and also a tactic. With current ashi only leechers, people who don’t pvp stay there to compete among themselves in order to pickup oil.

Ocassionally someone will clean it out of green dots because of boredom or try to get hof kill. I’ve done that a few times.

Having mobs around gives the pvper something else to shoot while they wait for their next target. It also makes it cheaper for the killer to use mobs to kill the green dots. The leechers will keep coming over and over again. And now once again will have vehicle to hide in.

You know we have turrets that compensate the player 90% return. My question is, wouldn’t it be fair to return a percantage of cost as ammo when you kill a player in any pvp area?
I’m not sure how it works on lootable but maybe it can work like that except you won’t loot anything from them per say.

Since turret will kill the mobs the killer have to waste ped on them over and over again.
Not sure if it will be worth it even if triple the amount of oil.

Another option:
If you guys added a buff while inside the oil rig. Where the cost to shooting is lower. There would be np to keep killing people. Since no more mobs can’t be abused and even if someone use a creature pill loot 2.0 is based on input so you only get what you pay.

I think it could be cool if you guys added some buffs like cyrene has with increased speed if you walk over some buff areas etc.

A revive closer to oil rig too would be welcome (more action).
Even a free tp there.
I’m imagining oil rig could truly become a battleground if we could get compensated like in lootable but just ammo for each kill. Basically a permanent free for all where you need a team or be very good pver to kill others and get the oil.
Closing oil rig may actually be brought back again. Other socs may choose to fight for the oil.
Opportunities will arise during Landgrabs for the casuals, or just orthos.

what about arkadia oil rig?

not part of the agenda?

It may be a tactic and have nostalgic value but I think it is overall a net negative. For a couple of reasons:
1: It completely disincentivises actual PvPer’s from playing there. Because a huge mob train destroys low TT higher Tier L Armor
2: 9/10 times it isn’t used by people actually engaged in PvP, it is used by people refusing to do PvP who want to use it as a griefing tool without cost/investment

I agree having mobs around to shoot is nice, but clashes with the points I made above, but fair point.

They will not be able to hide in vehicles in the oil spawn circle + some meters.

That would be up to Planet Arkadia to change.
