Uninstall Service Pack 2 w/o Admin

Dont start reg hacking… you will render the machine useless if you are not 100% accurate with your data

heh, I can’t anyway :frowning:

rawrite is a dos version of linux’s “dd” - writes an image to a floppy

You need to find the “Linux Boot CD” version (just the same thing, saved as ISO) then you can stick this on ya USB pen

Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to find the ISO and figure out how to put it on the pen - once you have done this, come back for further instructions Mr Phelps

Okey dokey, quick question, will it work if I create the boot disk on another computer (on the usb disk) then use it on the laptop?

and how can I change (with administrator!!) the drive letter asigned to my USB drive?

and for the “Linux Boot CD”, what do I look for, and how do I know I found it?

I gather it would be blahblahblah.iso?

Iam wery interested & keep waching.

Could be even interesting for me.

Keep going.

Wonder how you explain a “code kid” the way.

found what would possibly what I need:

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=adios

problem is, it’s ~700 Megabites, My key is 512 :frowning:

Is that what I should be looking for though?

  • If so I now need to find a different version of linux which is a bit smaller…

edit: found one which was 238 but the damn thing had been taken off the server without the link being removed

:duh: I’m going home…

Either myself or w0lfie will send ya a PM abit later on hehe we’ll get you sorted out one ay or the other

This seems to get real fun

Isnt this a case for a Linuxforum.
Ah.. A linuxuser would not help to crack a win mashine, right?

I still wonder why a full distribution LOL.

Gues a simple install on a key wil not take that much

Why not install linux via the win9x mashine on the key while disable the HDDs. ?

I hope you go on

Question about the Inf for the USB-Stick.
Dont you need Admin rights to support the driver install or BIOS-Support?
If not, a simple USB CD-R/RW would support a better Backup & reinstall on legal way.

Legal is always better.

why is fdisk-ing the comp and re-installing win not an option surely that would be the easiest conclusion.

Linux Boot Floppy is 100% legal - don’t worry

It’s a very important part of an IT toolkit and we wouldnt be suggesting in this thread it if it wasnt legal.

Cos the whole point (I assume) is at the end of the loan period, for him to return the laptop in the same state as he received it

Gurkha: a tip for you - the linux boot cd image is made directly from the linux boot floppy file - therefore it’s the same size ;o)

Keep hunting - google is your friend

I’m not telling you how to do it - but I’m pointing you in the right direction :oP

Directly from the linux boot floppy, therefore 1.44 MB?

if that’s correct, I s’pose this is useless:

http://slax.linux-live.org/download.php

think I’m downloading the whole OS -_-

Sry for missunderstanding.

The Notebook has a valid Win2k installation.

Usual the CD-Key is on the downside of the Notebook.
If it is not, it can be taken from the regfile in the windowsinstallation.

For this case not only Linux but also windows is legal to use.
The notebooks windows is activated, so rip the key & you can do whatever.

Fastest way to get a good system is rip the reg-key & reinstall after a backup.
When you have a 2nd logical drive in fat32, you can download a windowsXP to install on it.
This is total legal cince xp is a trail until you have activated it.

Annyway. No one wil take responsability for trouble you wil get @ school when you get catched for mannipulation on the school notebook.

Whatever you do with the OS is legal, but look out for the rules that are from you school

P.S

I missed to ask what language of windows you like to use

Depends what you mean by “the whole OS”

All OSes are modular - meaning you can have as many features as you want (XP bloatware) or just the functionality you require - such as a DOS-style box (usually a BASH shell in Linux these days) and a few well chosen commands - that’s why you can get Mandrake Linux (which is a full DVD) or a floppy-boot version such as the LBF, or Smoothwall

Even Windows XP is totally modular if you get the Embedded toolkit

I total agree, you also could make a 4 disk version of winXP by using sysprep.

okay, I’ve downloaded Smoothwall express, all 35 megabites of it, it’s an ISO image, is that of any use?

And Rasta, mind elaborating?

I have my CD key yes, how would I download XP??

And how would I create a second logical drive without being an administrator…possible?

Doesn’t really matter what I do to the laptop, since I hand it in for a different one as soon as I get back to school in september, just backup, then format the disk a bit before…I’m sure I can think up a valid excuse :silly2:

P.S. English normally, although french works fine too

What Filesystem it it? (NTFS or FAT32)

Aks a friend for a winXP-CD (Tell him you only want to copy it for backup of the CD you not have)

You know "Norton Ghost?

Nope, just the one partition, and btw it’s NTFS.

I’ve got a Win XP pro CD, but no CD drive…

And no I don’t know Morton Ghost, what is it?

How much free diskspace you have on your disk?
