Uninstall Service Pack 2 w/o Admin

Well, I too have a couplo decades of IT experience, and I dont mind sharing with friends stuff that I’ve learned (altho it does get a bit tiresome when all your friends/family phone up several times a week cos they killed their PC again  )

Anybody else who needs help pays for it

Oh btw - a free bit of advice - when you get in to change the admin password - DONT uninstall SP2 - it’s your friend. Simply config the Windows Firewall to allow PE

Hello.

I not understand why you want to crack that Laptop.
Dont you have a PC ??

Usual it is a honnor for you to have that Laptop over the summer. :wise:

May i ask if you go on the schoolnetwork @ the hollydays, or you only have the laptop because you always have it ?

It is because no hacker will support you to crack a networked PC because the “honnor rule of hackers”.
Illegal hacks are not alowed, & it would beillegal if you use it to get illegal acces to a external information that not belongs on your mashine.

The only hackfree sollution is: A Image of the HDD to backup your curent system & a device to run the OS installation from (CD, Network or external HDD).
Before you can run a different device you wil need bios acces in order to make the system boot from it.

If you have no acces to the bios, i sugest to keep the Laptop like it is. (If a systemfailure occures, you have could have real problems without acces to the settings)

When you have acces to the Bios & a working device, someone is able to support you. Otherwise NOT :wise:

Since he seem to use the notebook pre configured & networked to the schoolnetwork, it is not allowed to change the adminpass.

Give him the masterkey is not alowed. He have to ask his Admin for full rights. :wise:

Only way to get in safe, is make a backup & install a clean system.

You always do

Okay… I’m not going to mention obtaining a Linux boot floppy at all and the fact that it has the ability to reset all passwords on a PC.. even the administrator password… so go find out yourself! :wise:

It’s a very good security tool for IT professionals

Sorry to be so stupid sounding, but I just want to make sure I get this right and don’t mess up my computer, which is never a good idea…

  1. I download the two files I need into a directory (it says TEMP, can it use any directory?) on my HD.
  2. I insert USB key
  3. “Open a command prompt and change into the TEMP directory”; how do I do that? I can get into command prompt, then what command do I type in?
    4.once I’m in the directory I type “rawrite2”
  4. What happens now? - do I get prompted for the binary image straight after, or do I have to go through any other steps?
  5. I enter the file name of the binary image.

“It should be fairly easy from this point. If you NEED the SCSI drivers, then copy the appropriate scsi driver file (.gz) to the scsi directory on the floppy. When you’re ready to test the floppy, just boot to the floppy disk, instead of your hard drive.”

But what do I do?

“Once inside Linux, we can edit the sam file to change the Administrator password or edit a NT hive that might have bugs.”

I’m guessing I edit the sam file, but where do I find it, and how do I edit it? (do I edit it and leave it all blank to have the administrator password blank?)

And then I just type “exit” and quit the command prompt, log off, log on as administrator, and disable the firewall? (I have a hardware firewall, so no real security worries)

Lots of questions, although most of them aren’t too difficult to answer (i think  ).

Thanks to all who took their time to help me (esp. Ultimababe & co.), and +rep

Listen, I really really hate playing the “arrogant know-it-all” card, but really, if you cant figure out how to do this, then you really shouldnt be doing it. This is exactly the point of locking you out of the parts of the system that you dont understand.

I could do this on my own, with the information that I have, but when you have people who have done it before and know more about this than me, why not take advantage of what you’ve got?

I am knowledgeable enough to not do anything stupid once I’ve got admin, I have admin on another machine, but when I’ve never used anything remotely connected to linux before, nor do I often go around editing windows system files, which is why I am making completely clear of what I am doing before I go and attempt it, common sense.

Ok, enough procrastinating, here’s the real answer:

Contact the someone with an admin account on that machine, or a domain admin account and connect it to the domain (if there is one) and have them make the required changes for you, just tell them you need to play a game on their equipment.

Problem solved.

Bwahahahaha!!!

I’m sure that will go over well.

gurkha: Hi, I need to speak to someone with admin rights to my school laptop please?

School: Why?

gurkha: Well I’m going on holiday and I want to use the laptop to play games..namely one called Project Entropia.

School: Hmmm…we only allow admin passwords to those students that are serious about school work, You know, those that only surf the web looking for porn! Don’t bother us with your stupid request to play some retarded game!

gurkha: Ok..does that mean I can’t get admin rights?

School: Only if you swear to only view the most decadent porn sites will we give you admin rights.

gurkha:

that sounds like a good idea, I might just try it!

pity we’re on holiday allready

anyway, I can get on the net to look at ‘decadent porn sites’ myself, I figured that one out no problems…

anyway, minor problem.

I decided to actually go do this myself, so I did everything fine till prompted to “Enter target diskette drive”, at which, since I’m using a USB key, I typed "E:", but I got an error saying that the target drive must be A or B, anyway round this?

Try A or B anyway?.. :dunce:

Dirk 'n Dash, I decided to take your advice and do a bit of my own research, so after a bit I found a couple registry hacks that should do the trick;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dowsFirewall\DomainProfile
\EnableFirewall=0 (DWORD data type)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dowsFirewall\StandardProfile
\EnableFirewall=0 (DWORD data type)

But I can’t edit the registry… :frowning:

I can’t create a linux boot disk… :frowning:

I can’t use a command in the command prompt to enable through the firewall… :frowning:

I can’t use rollback… :frowning:

I can’t go ask my admin to disable the firewall to allow me to look at “decadent porn sites”… :silly2:

Anything else I should try? - Just any hints in the right direction…

another thing, how in hell’s name do you run a scipt??

found this on the net:

Set objFirewall = CreateObject(“HNetCfg.FwMgr”)

Set objPolicy = objFirewall.LocalPolicy.CurrentProfile

objPolicy.FirewallEnabled = FALSE

that’ll in theory disable my firewall, but how do I run it?

I typed that lot into the “run” menu, and into command prompt - but no joy.

It’s in VBscript by the way.

Edit: did a bit of RTFM and nop, the access was denied :frowning:

Dont start reg hacking… you will render the machine useless if you are not 100% accurate with your data
