I got a mentor the first day I started PE, I think. That first day, and the day after were the only times I saw him until at least three weeks after. By that time I had learned what a mentor was SUPPOSED to do, and what is in it for a mentor if the disciple is serious (which I am). I contacted him and asked him to kick me (after we had a long chat about how he didn’t help me one bit, he was never on when I was (and we’re from pretty much the same timezone). He got verbally abusive when I told him the plain truth (and I was quite polite, simply stating facts). After the 20th fk and ahole, I just left and (stupidly) erased him from my friends list. I however was still on his, and he was on now more than ever before! I know this because an avalanche of abuse was directed at me via PM, and there’s no escaping this, you need to open it to see who it’s from.
I contacted support, and after some prodding they told me I needed to make screendumps, after which they could take action. Mysteriously, although they said they could do nothing until then, the abuse stopped, and my ‘mentor’ never contacted me again, which was a huge improvement. I had never responded ONCE to his attempts at insult.
Last week we ran into each other (I scanned him and I outrank him now!), and he tried to chat, but I refused. He pm’d me (in a polite way), but I ignored him. I am convinced Support talked to him.
But they refuse to make him kick me. And I want to use skill chips. Which you can’t if you’re still a disciple. I am not far off from ‘graduation’ so it’s not that bad, but it really irks me that this nasty person gets rewarded for taking advantage of a noob, getting away with weeks of abuse where he should have been helping me, and I don’t even have the option of ignoring him. I fully understand that disciples can be just as big a pain to mentors, but there should be a system where - if there is not complete mutual satisfaction - the relationship can be broken off by either party. I am now effectively being held back in skilling and improving by the one person who SHOULD be responsible for me gaining in skills! It is ridiculous.
MA support’s unofficial intervention (which I am sure took place) helped a bit, but really only masked the problem. My ‘mentor’ (which should have ‘tor’ as a prefix) still gets rewarded for my graduation, which will happen despite, not thanks to his efforts. And in spite of my ability to shrug off idiots like these, something doesn’t sit right when I think of that happening. And MA’s attitude is not helping.
Just needed to get this off my chest. Thx for listening. And let it be a warning to noobs choosing a mentor. You have three days (which is way too short to kick him. After that, you are stuck, whereas your mentor can kick you at anytime. So beware.
