I agree .. no naming! Its a matter between you and him - even though it might concern other newbies too, who choose him as their mentor. I just hope that MA will take affair .. and delete him as your mentor.
You could though, IF he is on this forum, pm him the link to this thread .. OR hope he will see it himself. Hopefully that will open up his eyes and make him treat people better and with more respect!

I donāt like the naming thing, sorry. The reason I donāt like naming in this case is that what some disciples see as nice help, others see as shit. I donāt want my name on a list like that just because some lazy bastard didnāt get the gun or axe he was begging for over and over again, while I was trying to show him how to get to places, sweat and so on.
Sorry, but I say NO NAMING!!! :wise:

I can understand this point something that I had not thought of, objection withdrawn :wise:
File a support case and ask MA to remove him as your mentor. Include your previous support case about the abuse and they are likely to oblige.
You are kidding, Iām sure!? Havenāt you read my post at all? Iāve discussed this with MA support to no end, they are intransigent. They are āunable to remove me from his friendās list, or to remove me as his discipleā. Come on, donāt you think I tried this? A THOUSAND TIMES?
If youāve almost graduated and he hasnt helped you at all
KICK HIM
that is all.
No reason for him to get a reward if he hasnt done anything.
As I also explained, and as has become painfully obvious to many noobs, YOU CANNOT KICK A MENTOR AFTER THREE DAYS. Please read more carefully.
The mentor system needs an overhaul. While I agree with the risk of mentors being abused by disciples, the current situation is COMPLETELY lopsided. And please donāt tell me this is a necessary evil. If a mentor is afraid of loosing anything, donāt give anything. A good relationship surely isnāt based on material stuff alone.
It is really very simple: If you create a situation where one side can take advantage of another without any fear of consequences, than that is bound to happen.
I donāt have any easy solutions, though Iād be willing to give it a lot of thought, and Iām sure there are cleverer people here willing to do the same. But as it stands now, it sucks. Plain and simple. Mentors can decide IF they want a disciple, HOW to treat him, IF they want to invest time, money and/or other resources and to kick a disciple. I know Iāve had the worst possible deal here, but even a completely indifferent and uncooperative mentor is a serious setback. This must change.
I am kinda in the same boat mentor wise. I havent spoken to my mentor since she helped me get to Twin Peaks.
All in all.. its not so bad, I am enjoying the game and having fun even without the little boost in help.
But with all the helpful links here and on the EP website , I feel as though I have a much better grasp of the game now. Granted I have more questions now more than ever , but I will continue to dig up info on these boards to continue to progress.
Dont get me wrong it sucks for sure⦠the fact that he was verbally abusive is even worse, but if he wont rise to the occasion and be what a mentor is supposed to be, then rise above him and use him as an example when you begin taking disciples.
Its to bad to hear about all these mentor problems. It does go both ways but I think they should extend the time that a disciple can kick a mentor. I have had disciples in the past I wonāt say they were bad but they did not last and they never took full advantage of what I offered them. Most important to new people is to use this post as a lesson donāt just accept any old mentor be very picky. Most scam mentors try to get as many disciples as possible just to increase the chances that some will graduate and they will get a ME item. They will lead you on for the three day kick period and then disappear. There are tons of Threads in the forums that you can read about to inform you on what a good mentor and what a bad mentor is. There are lots of great people willing to help such as everyone in the School of Lootius :wise: . If I played more I would be taking on a couple of disciples but I have limited time so it would be unfair for me to do so. I think some mentors actually are decent people but they donāt realize timezone differences or the fact that they need to take some time with new people. I think MA is working on a new system not sure when it will be implemented but I think they have had more than enough complaints to do something about it. For everyone stuck in a bad situation I am truely sorry but it will help you inform others down the road and when you get to the point of being a mentor you will know what not to be.
Mentorship - I totally agree itās in a bad shape. I have similar happening right now - Iām sure 500 more people have it too. For me, I got verbal abuse for not being able to master the combat system after one day in-game (this instead of an explanation). No help whatsoever and read the three-day rule far too late. The mentor also lied about the gain - telling me I would get a gift and skills when the disciple period was over. Nice huh?
Anyway - I think that only a society should be allowed to take on disciples - easier to take action against a society than a single avatar. Also easier for one soc leader to take action agains an abusive member. Not to be confused with apprenticehood into a soc.
Like in my case, ex cons cadets could speak to my sad mentor and either force a change or force a kick.
If you have been kicked as a disciple I want 24 hours when you are free to find a new mentor. Of course, this should only be allowed once. The problem MIGHT be in the disciple, eh? Hehe.

That is not true at all. It depends on how fast you are skilling, if you are only sweating on and off or not online at all then you have months before you are unable to kick your mentor.
Maybe, the wording of the mentorship contract should highlight the fact that a disciple can kick the mentor if he is not fullfilling his part of the contract. You probably were not aware of this or did not read the āfine printā.
Just like IRL you have to read the āfine printā.
That is something else than asking MA to kick you as disciple. You asked them if they could make him kick you.
Itās quit well possible that you also asked them what i suggested but it is not in your original post. And they can remove people as a disciple, they have done so in the past but it will vary per case iām sure.
If it was me then iād simply postpone it for as long as possible by skilling every other skill to just before the graduation level as well, and then trade for a month or so to make him think that youāll never graduate.
Yeah the mentorship can sometimes be hard and cruel . My own mentor stopped playing PE 3 months after I started but he was a nice person and helped me with everything so I guess I was lucky to get a good mentor. It is sad that you cannot remove your mentor if so I should have done it a long time ago . But it keeps me from buying alot of skill implants :tongue2:

well this has been changed. =P
in the past, more than one of my disciples has messaged me and said āoops i accidentally kicked you, can you re-add me?ā
Itās sad to hear that there are mentors even worse then mine. It went something like this:
I logged in first, made my character and found myself in a city called āTwin Peaksā. I looked around and this guy came to me:
He: Are you new here?
Me: Yes
He: I can be your mentor
Me: Ask what that is
He: Explained it, said he was the best
Me: Laughs
He: Wanted to add me as his disciple
Me: Reads all the things about being add as a disciple and click āyesā
He: Runs to the TP
Me: Where are you?
He: Fort Zeus
Me: Where is that?
He: In the north
*** End of all conversation ***
*** I kicked him after a few days ***
There is no such 3-day limit, only a skill level limit.
When the disciple reaches a certain skill rank is when they cannot kick their mentor (Iām not sure what exactly) and they cannot be added as a disciple.
The 3-day myth was made up by an EP noob long ago, and (like the āMindArk will never change ingame itemsā myth) eventually became fact among many peoplesā minds.
Unfortunately, a noob will read the first couple pages of this thread only and the myth will continue.
DaveJ: That is very useful info, never tried it but it could quite possibly be true. Without a mentor skilling for newcomers can be quite hard⦠Am still getting the hang of mentorship myself. At first I wasnāt very good at it I think, but now my disciple still seems to like me, so I suppose I do at least SOME thing right Helping newcomers is a fun thing to do thou, and less amno intensive than troxhunts
Without a mentor skilling for newcomers can be quite hard
Really? So how did the first players do it? How do I do it (still doing it)? JUST PLAY.
The more I think about it, the simpler the conclusion becomes: Abandon the whole mentorship scheme. Peope are fine getting along on their own. I was. And I was helped by someone who (we both thought afterwards) SHOULD have been my mentor but was now ājustā a friend. (Him I can name: CBB of VIP Assassins: Thx for all the help and advice you gave me, with no guarantee of anything in return!).
Just make friends. They are all the more worthwhile BECAUSE you have no claim on each other.
Well, donāt think that mentor will get a nice giftā¦most of them stink.
One solution, would be for MA to have an automated graduation function that asks the disciple to rate the mentorā¦1-5. At, 1, the mentor is guaranteed to get something like a flowerā¦a Mentor Edition Flowerā¦but as the rating goes higher, his odds of something nice increase (though a high rating does not guarantee anything.)ā¦but a low rating guarantees something like 1 unit of Mentor Edition Dung.
Or⦠perhaps the gift is shown to the disciple, who decides if the Mentor deserves it.
Of course there should also be sufficient info for the disciple explaining that good mentors are teachersā¦not necessarily Ped giversā¦though some may choose to do both.

Ahhh yes, rating. Great idea! That would ensure a bit of work. Viewing itemā¦I think that if I liked my mentor even only a little bit then Iād like her to receive the very best there is. Yes for rating.
