For a long while now, I’ve wondered to myself which of the two main skilling rifles is the superior. With Outbackos currently being auction for upwards of twenty PEDs, it seems the Jester has been left in the dust - but I have never seen any evidence as to which one is superior. I decided to test for myself.
For the test, I will fire each of the guns ten thousand times, without attachments, and calculate the decay on each one. I will then use the data collected to determine these facts:
- rate of decay for each gun
- efficiency of each gun (damage per PEC)
If there is a difference in the two guns, I will also determine this:
- amount of discrepancy between the two
- how much better the superior gun is over the inferior
Phase 1: Sollomate Outbacko
Start TT: 4.0 PED
Ammo: 20,000 Medium Weapon Cells
Uses: 10,000
Finish TT: 2.0 PED
Decay per 10,000 uses: 2.0 PED
Decay: 0.02 PEC/shot
Damage/PEC: 3.96
Weight: 2.1 kg
Reload: 1.4 seconds
Range: 50m
Phase 2: Jester D-1
Start TT: 4.5 PED
Ammo: 20,000 Medium Weapon Cells
Uses: 10,000
Finish TT: 2.5 PED
Decay per 10,000 uses: 2.0 PED
Decay: 0.02 PEC/shot
Damage/PEC: 3.96
Weight: 2.0 kg
Reload: 1.4 seconds
Range: 50m
As you can see, the guns are VERY similar. Statistically, though, it is the Jester D-1 that is technically superior. This crafted gun has a higher total TT value (lasts longer before needing repair) and weighs a scant tenth of a kilogram less. Not large differences, but they are differences.
I was hoping for different results. I had my fingers crossed that the Outbacko would turn out to be much better, but no such luck. Even though they sell for many times the amount that Jesters do, Outbackos are in reality no better than their crafted counterparts.
Winner (by a nose): Jester D-1
