Influx of players - what can we do?

I’m noticing how much strain the PE website is taking… and wondering if MA was really ready for this influx. I mean they managed to get their PR firm to get it on 1 website, but from what I can see, most of the news services received their information from players. I wonder if they ever dreamed the extent of the publicity, and the effect it would have.

This is going to be a huge weekend… and I’m not sure the servers will handle it…lets hope they do…

What can we do as players to help?

Please put your suggestions in here… and I hope everyone would help…

First suggestion

My first suggestion:
Seniority decides on the login server!
People that have played for 2 years have priority over those who have played 1 year and so on. Gold member cards add an extra yea. Being ME of course put me in the very front of the line, regardless.. And even boots off a n00b if theres no room for me

No idea really- obviously the servers could not handle the enormous amount of ppl attempting to log in at the same time earlier, so that poses a predicament.

In general, I also wonder if MA is fully prepared. Perhaps I’m the eternal optimist, hoping that indeed MA has planned somewhat for this and has a plan in place for the most serious issues (ie server load), so I’m not freaking out. Then again, I’m not planning on logging in this weekend either

As for the forums- well frankly they might be fucked  “How do I xyz” … “Can I contact MA?”… “Do I have to deposit??”
Omg- ya, it’s a good time for a break

The good news is with all those new players the price of sweat will drop and ME will be cheaper

Tell everyone about the average ROI from hunting, mining and crafting and that they’re probably going to loose a huge ammount of money :wise:

We should create a F.A.Q. about Project-Entropia.

Wikipedia - Project Entropia

(I never read Wikipedia, though..)

A n00b perspective…

As one of these new players (well, I wasn’t brought here by the recent news re: sale of space station, but by an actual interest in the game), I firstly would like to say sorry to those who feel all the new players are causing more havoc than good.

As an ex-SWG (pre pre-CU) player, I know what can happen on a game when a massive influx of new, unexperienced players enter a system. Begging, whining, kill-stealing, general rudeness and down-right thievery. I’ve seen it happen and been one of the loudest voices against it.

That said, I think that in the end, this can be a good occurence. Obvious reasons aside (lower costs for items such as sweat, increased drive for additional content, etc) having “fresh blood” as it were, opens things up to meet and team with new players, both n00b and experienced MMORPGers. Back in SWG, I met some great people and even joined a guild with a group of these new (alright, they were experienced MMORPGers, but still new) players and gamed with them for two years. It made my time SWG that much more enjoyable.

Now, here there is a MASSIVE influx of players. Hell, I was kited A LOT last night. Also, I’d be sweating a creature and some other player would stroll on up to it and start whacking on it, then, of course, run away and leave it aggro on me. Then there’s the constant whining “I don’t know how to see my inventory/skills/move around”. I read the manual and figured it out, and your excuse is?

Bottom line, give it time. Perhaps as soon as one week from now, the majority of those who are not serious (and from what I’m seeing, you need to be serious, just to get your head around all that can be done here) will have gone back to thier other games or the next shiny thing. What will be left, if history holds true, will be players that most veteran players will enjoy gaming with for many years to come. Hopefully, I am one of those.

Sorry for the long post, but I talk too much…

Seniority decides on the login server!

That may really discourage new players…dont think MA wants that, although, it may weed-out the impatient ones, dunno…

Hmm. Try explaining whether or not it is feasible to step into the game without a significant initial (cash) investment. Many folks are probably wanting to step in and play the trading game to get started quickly, and many have been doing it in various online “worlds” back as far as Diablo II or MUDs. shrug

I think it’s important that the new joiners meet loads of old PE players. Only this way will they learn quickly how the community in PE is. Unfortunately I can’t be around this weekend but those who can should deff make sure the n00bs get a nice welcome. Otherwise the large influx of people might endanger our good community spirit in PE …

That could be a good idea. I would suggest the opposite order though.
The old players are only ones who can understand the server lag
and have experienced it before, so they could get an email message
stating that “you will be autologged off after 30 mins of cumulative
gameplay during the weekend” . And newbies would have no restrictions,
others something in between. (The logic here is that old players
are the only ones who would log again on Monday even they were
blocked off for one weekend hehe).

No. MA should

that is a false problem.

Give me a couple of hofs/globals and ill give suggestions

Well, I was started in Argus myself, only three weeks back. Without help (including the guides on the forum here), I think I would have gotten bored fairly quickly and gone back to other games.

So, I went there this morning to see if I could collect a few n00bs.
I took some of them to the snables and exorasaurs (sp?), and let the things chomp on me so they could sweat - yeah, I died lots, and following that the n00bs died too, but what’s a death or ten when the walk to the mob is only 30 seconds anyways?
They went away knowing what they were supposed to do to sweat, and knew about stats increases from mobs hitting them. I explained about selling sweat and getting an axe or such, so they can get up to hunting.

One guy wanted to go off to the oil rig.. couldn’t be dissuaded, so I’ve told him to swim south down the river, and then east along the shore till he gets there… Can’t remember his name for the life of me, but I’m guessing he’ll turn up at Limnadian looking for help when he can’t get past the rippersnappers (that’s where I got stuck for a while when I went exploring on my own  )

Why help the n00bs?
If they find the game interesting, they are more likely to log in again. The more they log in, the more the game will hook them, and the more likely they are to deposit at least the recommended initial $10.

I do hope though, that more income to MA means they’ll do something about the lag in PA and Camp Phoenix… :silly2:

What Server? I just left the Tempest server after over a year on SWG. The new CU is killin’ SWG so I’ve just started here.

Dealpha, pm sent…

Some may just be new to this game.

For those that may be unaware, SWG just announced a complete revamp of the game. One day AFTER it was too late to cancel the pre-order of their newest expansion. Much of the content in the new expansion was made completly obsolete in the new system. Several professions were deleted outright. And the removal of decay is looking to make crafting a null profession.

I was/am in a 400 member guild there and many of us are canceling accounts and looking for new games. I’ve let many people in our Ventrilo chat know about PE and hope some come. A few of these are community leaders there and would do well in PE. But not if they are gated from logging on or are discouraged from playing/advancing. I started on the 9th and a day later someone tried to add me as a desciple, but I had already gained too many skills.

Just saying give a newb a chance and they can become good members of the community also.

/salute
