Main Entry: ras·cal
Pronunciation: 'ras-k&l
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English rascaile rabble, one of the rabble
1 : a mean, unprincipled, or dishonest person
2 : a mischievous person or animal

  • rascal adjective

I think its often used especially with wild kids and teenagers.

Not sure about the Mob names or armours, but Place names most seem to have a myth and legend connection:-

Fort Troy - Greeks & Trojans
Zeus - Greek God
Port Atlantis - Atlantis being the island that sank
Pheonix - Another God ( A dragon also I believe?)
Medusa - Mythical Character with snakes for hair.
Orthos - Another God

etc etc.

Then i suppose most already made those connections anyway.

also lots of crafted carbines have names of scandinavian gods.. and for an obvious reason i’d say

so lemme get the whole thing …

MA are swedish right ?
they got names of greek gods …
and scandinavian ones too …
aha !! now i get it :hammer: :banghead: :umn:

Well… The armor names are relatively random, sometimes making obvious sense… Like Angel - Pure white armor, Shadow - Full black armor.
Other armor names are ‘alike’. Series of different models so to say…
Like the undead armors (Ghoul, Ghost, Phantom, Zombie)
Animal series (Jaguar, Tiger, Boar, …)
Specialized or Elemental armors (Thunderbird - Electricity, Viking - Cold, Salamander - Fire)
Fairy type names  (Pixie, Gnome)
Evil Fairies  (Goblin, Gremlin)

And so on…

The creature names seem more or less made up… “Let’s call it Gnarfu!” Though some make more sense as well

And like Banger already said… A lot or most of the locations names are taken from mythology…

Why they chose all those exact names… It’s just a game and they’re developers

Im pretty sure there is 1-2 threads on this subject allready :wise:

As I said, a lot of things are random, other make some sense…

Araneatrox resemble spiders somewhat, or arachnids, together with -trox (apparently fashionable name suffix for MA), voila, a name for a creature…

And the rancher hat isn’t random :smash: Those are western-style hats like those worn by… Ranchers…

(By the way… Those posts seriously do look a bit rushed… A minute of time for corrections can’t hurt  )

again ?!

oh well , noone wrights

Possibly because it’s a stupid topic and your english is embarrasingly hard to understand, maybe nobody can understand the topic?

btw, 1993=your date of birth?

Well based on descriptions of some creatures at fertaliser stations the “x” in most mob names like -atrox/trax is for xeno
like the name of an atrox i think is atroxenosaur or somethign along those lines..

Most mobs in PE will have xeno somethere in thier full name.
As Banger said pretty much all of the city/town names are taken from greek mythology, the planet calypso is also taken from greek mythology.
That i presume is because the whole project that colonised calypso and the odessys project is all taken from greek mythology so it seems fitting that all towns in eudoria wich is the first continent in habited by colonist would also be named after greek mythology.

Amethera was colonised after the initial colinisation run when it is no longer controled by one corporation and is now a free forall so that is likely why the new amethera cities are named after the main corporations that have a stake or interest in calypso
I do not have any idea how the name amethera came out as a name for the other continent.. all google referances for the name show only PE related sites.

As sound said. the armors are based on various themes.
such as all the crafted armors being named after undead spirits (except for shadow). All the looted ones are named after other things such as the project that inspired its design or other reasons.
Sound pretty much covered them well enough..

The animals names are still a mystery i think even to mindark..
I have tried to make sens of the names even by breaking down the sylables of the names and cross referancing them with a root-word dictionarey and found little success…
though the root word of “corn” means horn.. and all mobs that have “corn” in ther name do have horns.. (cornundacauda, cornundos, etc)
Other mobs like Equus is farily obvious as its a variation of equine wich is horse, and well they are calypso horsies.

I think the names of the different creatures has more to do with the artist/developer who made em or what otehr nicknames MA staff have came up for them when they messed around with them on the testing servers.
Like for example snablesnot… i can kinda see how that name came about based on that creature’s method of attack.

Perhaps Mindark expects us the community to come up with some biology, history and roleplay as far as the creatures, thier names, what they do and what thier part in the calypso ecosystem is..

on a more humorous note… umbranoid.. umbr = shade (umbrella, umbrage, adumbration) -oid = resembling (spheroid, astroid, humanoid)
while i dont see how an umbranoid resembles shade. I can se why they seem to very much like shade. (thier towns seem to be in areas with lots of trees and are fairly shady) and if you seen one you can see why the like shade.
They look like they all stuck thier head in an oven and baked at 450 degrees for 2 hours.

I’ll try to give some explanation on some words from my point of view.. for example, atrox means “fearsome” or “cruel”, as in something extraordinarily dangerous, remember.. before Amethera Atrox and Araneatrox were the biggest and most dangerous living (non-robot) monsters ingame.

The dinosaur-like creature description in their DNA samples have xenosaur in them meaning alien reptile.. i mean it’s obvious :wise:

Anyone besides me know where thorios come from?

and yes they did have it first…

No… Never.

(I guess I’m the first person to actually answer his question :wise: ).

Allophyl:
All = everything
Phyl = to like (as in hydrophyl)
Conclusion: Allophyls like everything.

Ambulimax:
Ambul = short for ambulance
Max = maximum
Conclusion: You need maximum healthcare when you encounted these.

Something more serious:
Foul: Means something that is unwanted. Remember they’re mutants.
I’ve come across the names ‘molisk’ and ‘argonaut’ quite a lot when I was reading 20.000 leagues under the sea by Jules Verne. They seem to be very common marinecreatures, but I don’t know what. An Argonaut looks to be some kind of a squid.
