Well based on descriptions of some creatures at fertaliser stations the “x” in most mob names like -atrox/trax is for xeno
like the name of an atrox i think is atroxenosaur or somethign along those lines..

Most mobs in PE will have xeno somethere in thier full name.
As Banger said pretty much all of the city/town names are taken from greek mythology, the planet calypso is also taken from greek mythology.
That i presume is because the whole project that colonised calypso and the odessys project is all taken from greek mythology so it seems fitting that all towns in eudoria wich is the first continent in habited by colonist would also be named after greek mythology.

Amethera was colonised after the initial colinisation run when it is no longer controled by one corporation and is now a free forall so that is likely why the new amethera cities are named after the main corporations that have a stake or interest in calypso
I do not have any idea how the name amethera came out as a name for the other continent.. all google referances for the name show only PE related sites.

As sound said. the armors are based on various themes.
such as all the crafted armors being named after undead spirits (except for shadow). All the looted ones are named after other things such as the project that inspired its design or other reasons.
Sound pretty much covered them well enough..

The animals names are still a mystery i think even to mindark..
I have tried to make sens of the names even by breaking down the sylables of the names and cross referancing them with a root-word dictionarey and found little success…
though the root word of “corn” means horn.. and all mobs that have “corn” in ther name do have horns.. (cornundacauda, cornundos, etc)
Other mobs like Equus is farily obvious as its a variation of equine wich is horse, and well they are calypso horsies.

I think the names of the different creatures has more to do with the artist/developer who made em or what otehr nicknames MA staff have came up for them when they messed around with them on the testing servers.
Like for example snablesnot… i can kinda see how that name came about based on that creature’s method of attack.

Perhaps Mindark expects us the community to come up with some biology, history and roleplay as far as the creatures, thier names, what they do and what thier part in the calypso ecosystem is..

on a more humorous note… umbranoid.. umbr = shade (umbrella, umbrage, adumbration) -oid = resembling (spheroid, astroid, humanoid)
while i dont see how an umbranoid resembles shade. I can se why they seem to very much like shade. (thier towns seem to be in areas with lots of trees and are fairly shady) and if you seen one you can see why the like shade.
They look like they all stuck thier head in an oven and baked at 450 degrees for 2 hours.

Oh dear, does this mean I’m a mob too?

Alien Xeno Morpheos

Not sure about the Mob names or armours, but Place names most seem to have a myth and legend connection:-

Fort Troy - Greeks & Trojans
Zeus - Greek God
Port Atlantis - Atlantis being the island that sank
Pheonix - Another God ( A dragon also I believe?)
Medusa - Mythical Character with snakes for hair.
Orthos - Another God

etc etc.

Then i suppose most already made those connections anyway.

Banger just a quick correction about the Phoenix its a mythical fire bird that is reborn from its own ashes. I would have to consult one of my myth books at home but I think that is a close enough description from the top of my head. It might also be considered a symbol of rebirth and renewal. I do know it started in Egypt and was adopted by the Greeks.

My favorite mob name is the Formicacida if you break it down its Formic acid which some insects use as a chemical defense and offense. I think the “Whip tail” scorpion or as its called here “Vinageroon” uses this as both an offensive and defensive weapon. I may be mistaken but I don’t think Formicacidas have an acid attack which is strange considering their name.

About atrox :

The “x” isn’t for xeno at all. Atrox is an old latin word that can mean two things : in a good way, “the powerfull”, in a bad way, “the cruel one”. It gave the word “atrocité” in French and “atrocity” in English.
