Whips - An acceptable solution?

People who said its fine as it is now probably don’t posess a Whip and pay a few hundred ped for it.

Nuff said.

while we are talking about whips anyway…

Hehe nice tactice to make us forget they what they did with the whip. But still VERY good news !!!
I would say poll answers are self-explaining.
They are. Perhaps my well-meant efforts etc are better invested/appreciated elsewhere. I just hope you won’t come crying here when MA fucks up YOUR way of hunting economically. Expect little to no support.
The only thing achievable here is to let MA think twice before the make more changes like this, so you would be helping others/yourself in the furure.
They didn’t give a shit about people’s reply when they nerfed axes. They didn’t give a shit this time either. Why would they give a shit next time? The good news for them is I most likely won’t be around to complain about it. And if at some point, nobody bothers complaining, you’ll be screwed time and time again, and all just keep nodding that it is good.

Everybody say “BAAAAAAAAAH”.

As for Viking? I think the fact nothing happened to those people who were abusing the “attack NPCs and gain skills”, and the refusal to act on concerns of someone who did not exploit is quite clear.

Apparently MA is okay with people exploiting a bug, but if you have a problem with a decision they make, you get the cold shoulder.

Maybe Marco would like to offer some insight into that conclusion?
That should keep the whip values in check for time being
If THAT is what people think is my reason for speaking out so strongly? Meh.

I ENJOYED hunting with my whip. I loved it. Skill gains, while usually breaking even, the whip looks cool, it sounds cool. THAT is why I encouraged people to get whips.

Heck, if I was speculating on them? I would have bought the whips my soc members bought for myself. I doubt people have any idea how torn i was between selling that Cobra ME, or just clinging on to it so it would lengthen my hunt. Eventually I figured I’d be robbing my own wallet if I did not sell. So I did.

My intentions are NOT aimed at the value of the whip. My intentions are principle in nature.

i dont even own a whip but, to change items about a year later isnt on

when MA creates an item to introduce ingame they should damn well check, double-check, then triple check the stats before it goes in.

shifting the goal-posts on people isnt right.

It never struck whippers minds that there was something wrong with having such an incredible minimum dmg, even as a complete noob in whipping, melee or even combat all together?
Besides, whips are meant for recreational purposes & taming imo.
Common sense seems to be in shortage when its weighed against the possibility to get a few extra peds.

I would like to vote “Its fine the way it is now”, but I dont like the “Cry more noob”-part, so I’ll just skip the voting.

I thought the whips were originally created with a higher minimum damage, but a lower hit-rate. Atleast it was like that in the beginning, but it seemed like the hit-rate was improved some time later, I guess this was the reason for the change.

It isn’t such a good step by Mindark to change the stats of a weapon over a year after implantation. But I think they should reconsider giving the SB/LB series of weapons a bit more normal stats now when they already nerfed a few a long time after implantation.

They did say the possibility was there when they gave us the Axes, anyway. This has already happened three times, the Improved Mk. III, RepEdge Axe 1x0 and now a couple of whips. I really think Mindark should re-check the stats of new weapons and try them a couple of times before they release them into the game.

MA should have comphensated whip owners at the time of the nerf.

Why? Because unlike axe 1x0, they stated explicitly to several participants via support that the item was NOT bugged.

MA should offer zero TT items as comphensation, but they won’t.

They kinda told me that the RepEdge 1x0 axe wasn’t bugged when I told them about the Electricity damage, its economy and everything else… so Support doesn’t really seem to know that much.

The message from this change to Whips that MA will remove anything in in the game which allows players to break even or just make a small loss: they retrospectively call the item bugged and change it. These changes have cost a lot of mid-level players a lot of PED. I can think of three changes:

Axes x1 ( I looted and bought 15 of these beauties which fell from a value of tt+5-7 before to nothing overnight)
Trapping (this was a legitimate part of the game which allowed cheaper sweating and hunting)
Whips (I lost a minimum of 60 UDS on this change)

Just two of these changes have directly cost me a minimum of 135 US with no compensation. This is a lot of money. I find MA’s response (or lack of response) perplexing. If they keep on changing ‘the rules’ of the game without a reasonable explanaton or compensation they are going to loose a lot of loyal customers.

BTW a theory on why they don’t touch Uber items: There a fewer items - so the impact is much less and to a lesser extent I think a number of the Ubers who tend to own these items were early users of the game and are known to MA.

it was a mistake now its fixed thats how its supposed to be whip users was getting a unfair advantage and now with taming comming i think u guys should just be glad u took the advantage and gained cheaper skills

Since people are paying real money for the items in the game, I think it’s wrong for the stats to be shifted (and quite so hard as these appear to have been). If I bought something from a shop, and then after a few days found it didn’t work as intended, I would be entitled to a refund… the law would be behind me too… just a thought there…
I played for a long while in another online game, where occasionally, ship stats were changed during the middle of a round - created a LOT of bad will (and you only paid per round, not per item like this).

MA should either:

  1. figure out what stats the item will have BEFORE putting it into the game, or

  2. enter it in the game with the word “BETA” in the name, or some other obvious, unmissable warning in the description, and allow say, one week, in which they can observe the use and if necessary modify the stats of it. After this time, the “BETA” or warning should be removed and the item left as it is at that point.
It would be then be clear whether an item is at risk of nerfing before shelling out for it - if you still wanted to risk it, fine.

  • rep - sensible suggestion - if it is ‘beta’ and therefore potentialy bugged MA should tell us

I agree, if you are paying or working hard to make money and purchase something, you should at least be compensated for an items change of stats ( be it damage, armor, etc…) If it changes due to the games “Directors” I could say more but I’ve learned fast that better to be on the side of caution :scared:

the stats wasnt changed the only thing they did was to correct a mistake on how skills applyed

imagine this scenario MA made a mistake so that all imk2´s suddenly did minimum 50% dam would u guys who complain about whips like that ?

It was generally understood by most of the whip owners at the time of the
1x0 change that the whip may change some day too. So whips were in
the usual do-it-as-long-as-you-can category like evade skilling and such.
This understanding arose from the wording of MA spokesmen at the time
of the 1x0 change.

Whips are still valuable after the Taming gets implemented so this time
the item does not turn to a paperweight. Same was with axes, their price
did not change much since they drop less nowadays.

The problem maybe that sometimes our subconciousness actively engages
all its might to forget what we otherwise know. Sad thing is that I had no
time to skill whip before the change  , I got a good whip somewhere
on Dec or Jan, and it was dusting until I started skilling now.

oh I love this thread …reminds me of a mix between a Kafka novel and Orwell’s 1984.

So we now have the newspeak of MA (with its advocates) and the re-writing of history by PE citizens on this forum to fit MA’s view. While increasingly convoluted ways are found to justify this decision (hey whips will go up in price when we introduce taming sometime next year).

The Facts: Players bought these items in good faith and then saw very significant amounts of value wiped off them by MA’s actions. Before players bought them MA’ s support informed us that they weren’t bugged, therefore it is reasonable to assume that they wouldn’t be changed.

MA then suddenly saw people starting to use them extensively and hey presto they were suddenly a ‘mistake’ or ‘bugged’!

The reaction: This is now being justified by players on this forum?

What is this …a collective fear of MA? Are we afraid of speaking out against the company when it makes a poor decision? Are we worried that they will reduce your ‘luck’ within the game or find other ways to remove troublesome our outspoken players (players on this forum have suggested this)?

I couldn’t care less about taming, the peds I have lost (honestly it is a blasted drop in the ocean in relation to the amount I have deposited in the last 11 months). What I do care about is that people seem to fear speaking out about something which concerns them and MA’s lack of openess about this issue. The issue here isn’t the item … it is the principle of the issue and the trend that has been set in the way that MA deals with its customers.

I would have liked MA to publicly say:

Hey guys we are losing too much on the whips. We made a mistake with the stats. Sorry we are going to have to alter the stats, however, we will push forward with taming as soon as we can. Compensation is (or is not) possible because (MA inserts answer). And BTW so everyone is clear we are looking at the following items which may be altered some time in the near future…

This type of approach would have reinforced my support for MA and enjoyment of the game. It would have demonstrated some kind of respect for the players.

Rather than all BS and fear.

Now guys just watch the dial on the PJ MA ‘luckometer drop’ (not sure if it can drop any further…but lets see  )

I cant imagine anyone would actually fear MA. Then your life must be REALY screwed up.

I think the only reason to speak against the whip change is:

I dont have one, and other make profit on it, so I will benefit when that item is removed.

So in the end, its all about the peds

Great post P-J (+rep) - very well said - I bet MA reads this and nods sheepishly to themselves. I think they get it, but feel forced to toe to the standard corporate PR line… Whenever possible, obfuscate at all costs!

You know how the corporate giants do it… “Exxon reported yesterday that it has settled out of court for an undisclosed dollar amount. Exxon however states unequivocally that it did nothing wrong in the matter, and admits zero responsibility”

Another Fact: Half of the people were SELLING and half of the people buying.
Those who sold, and many of those who bought them, knew that it is a weapon which always delivers the maximum damage, quite unique eh?
Possible something which does not always last but is available now.

So not all buyers bought it for being able to whip forever with the max dmg.
The common motive among the whip buyers (which I used when recommending my friends to buy it) was that now you may have few
months time to do something which will not be possible later. Just whip
like grazy some 1k and sell it ahead.

Similar thing happened when first -hmm- rumours or opinions about evade skilling distorting the game and possible correction on the way. The result
was that even more people started to skill evade as long as it was possible.

PS: What is the value now? Maybe it is time to buy whips especially if
mentors get other items than whips nowadays?
