Which is the best web browser to use?

In another thread there was talk of the Brave web browser. I wasn’t even aware of that one. I’ve downloaded it and may start using it but is it the best one out there?

using brave for 5+ years,
great to avoid ads (inc a feature i dont dare to say on PCF),
sync between devices, (pc, office, smartphone)
i love it.

used to be a opera fan but they have been acquired by, ahm, so i switched to chrome, firefox, then with brave now.
tried duckduckgo a while ago but i use VPN(nord) all the time now so its kinda redundant so came back to brave.

Opera: Best for built-in VPN, ad-blocker
Mozilla Firefox: for customisation and security
Edge: Best for productivity, Microsoft 365 integration, and AI features.
Tor Browser +: For hidden web
Brave: Best for ad-blocking, tracker prevention and privacy.
Google Chrome: for speed and specialised extensions & integration.
There are other specialised Browser too.

I mostly use Brave, just depends on what you want to get done.

Brave has the best built-in adblock, built-in Tor client, torrent client, and web3 features like native IFS support and a built-in wallet. Their search engine is also pretty great. IMO the best browser out there.

Opera has been dead for a while, surprised anyone would recommend it. Vivaldi is the spiritual successor and has everything plus the kitchen sink if you’re looking for features. In particular their tab controls are the best and the built-in markdown notes with screen capture are pretty nice.

My honest opinion, as a former web developer and current software engineer:
[ul]
[li]LibreWolf as your main browser, used 99.9% of the time.[/li][li]Brave or Ungoogled Chromium when you absolutely must use a Chromium based browser, for whatever reason.[/li][/ul]

If you want to specify for every search that you want to use Google instead of Yahoo you should try Firefox

I’m using Firefox since around 20 years, despite having many others for work related testing.

You can do that in probably every browser… but who uses Yahoo in 2025 lol?
Also use Duckduckgo over Google!

Thanks for all info.

All interesting. I’ve switched to Brave for now. However, I’m curious how honest they are that was my first impression. When I first started Brave browser the default start page mentions something about having news there. I considered turning this on, so clicked it. Then reading the next bit they state it is used to track your data. I declined the news feature…

I guess we’ll find out with time if they will be like duckduckgo. Despite what they say, they tracked user data and sold it like the big players  (according to a post in the other thread).

Brave is good for bypassing paywall sites since it turns the ads off. Chrome and Edge are versy similar.
Opera’s vpn is meh… it’ a bit slow and ony has a limited number of vpns that actually work… a true vpn service would be smarter but may cost a few bucks.
Firefox is ok for some things if you are a web designer, but it’s kinda klunky like most linux type stuff…

There are a ton of other browsers out there too.
If you are only after fast no image browser Lynx is your go to. Of course, most sites want you to see the images… but for speed it may be the fastest since it just doesn’t load any images at all. Back in the days of dial up it was sometimes very handy. If you end up browsing some questionable sites that may have malware hiddin in images this actually might be most secure.

My favorite is Opera GX, used for a while now

Any news feed is going to track your activity in order to provide relevant content. Brave gives you the option to view ads and sponsored content, for which they reward you with BAT tokens, and they need to track your activity to provide ad context. Note, you might make like 0.25€/mo doing that, it’s not worth it.

Also I recommend Brave search over DuckDuckGo, but personal preference.

Lynx is quite dated and inactive, I recommend trying Links as the spiritual successor, with many more features.

I use Firefox since the day it was released in 2004 (before that used Netscape Navigator).

Have Chrome for testing, but it’s unusable as main like any chromium trash, barely customizable. All shortcomings of Firefox can be fixed with addons (or delving into its files manually, if you need something very niche), while most things about Chrome UI can’t be fixed at all and the chrome webstore has strict policies that leads to removal of crucial features from addons, like it happened to Ublock Origin.

I have to disagree. It’s not a necessity. Printed newspapers that you may buy from a shop have never tracked your activity and wouldn’t be able to yet can provide news.

I use Brave for youtube. and to collect bat.

Newspaper owners may not track you with online cookies but they do track the money and subscribers…

Impossible if you buy newspaper with cash from a shop.

Thanks for recommending brave! Using it I am able to stream hockey with higher reliability and quality than the provider I pay for offers.
