If MA is smart, with CE2 arriving soon, I suspect they are going to be doing a huge media blitz. Perhaps they will be more successful if we give them a hand… Where should Marco/FPC/MA be sending their advertisements about Entropia Universe? Name magazines, websites, address, contact people, etc. here and maybe, just maybe MA marketing Dept. will actually read this, get the message, and we’ll start seeing advertising going to the right places so more folks will start joining our little universe…
Dragon Con. 35,000 geeks present.
i wouldnt bring in anyone till they fix the game.
hears how this will go down at the confrence…
rep: “hi, here is a free to download and play game”
person: “oh cool, the graphics are great, looks awesome, can i try this?”
rep: “sure, download the client here, and start playing”
person: “so how do i start playing this game?”
rep: “well what you need to do is deposit maybe 15 USD to start”
person: “WOAH!!, you said it was free to download and play?”
rep: “it is, but the features to get free money in the game havent been
implimented yet”
person: “well when will that happen?”
rep: “did i mention the graphics look fantastic?, and look at how real they
walk and move”

i dont know where in particular they should send it, any and all review sites game/pc mags/sites ect , i thought of a neat idea that may work and be cheap , every couple of months MA could send out special invitations to these places to enabe a reporter to create an L avatar ( an account that expires after so long ,a month perhaps) , give them 500 ped or so and maybe a low tt non transferable set of L armour and equipment ,let them play and experience the game and write an article about it in their puplication/website, of course they wouldnt have deposit/withdraw facilitys or pvp trade options/drop item ect ,all ped and items looted could only be tted to prevent them giving out all their loot to random people and affecting the dynamics of the loot pool/item pool ect. Also when the account expires all items looted ect get recycled . If MA made a preliminarymarketing swoop and pushed the idea of this scheme it could workout very cheap in the longrun . This would not be such a good idea for now; but (optimisticly) after v10 and the delights it brings us ,and when the imprvements are made to enhance the game play this idea could be a winner.
i dont beleive they will do large media coverage immediatly, let those already here who know the systems help get it all working nice, and benefit from the Second Golden Age. then bring in the new blood.
The BBC “Click Online” and any similar show that can actually show CE2 in it’s glory on TV.
Every computer magazine that has free DVDs with software would have a copy to put on their cover disks too if I were doing it…it’s a huge D/L but tempting since it’s free to register and that would make the D/L easier. A free starter weapon or kit for readers would maybe work too.
I’d like to see us all get some kind of referal fee for promoting ..like online casinos do with recommend a friend (they deposit, you get a bonus). Soc and community websites could really work that to raise funds and promote the game well in the process. Official banners and referal urls would help with that.
My money would be on Neverdie doing the best and most promotion, just like CND got.
t
G4 TV in the USA
Late night cable TV ads are [COLOR=“Indigo”]dirt cheap to run. Channels like Comedy Central, SiFi, and Cartoon Network (Adult Swim) would be good choices. At least in the US, I have no clue who else gets them, but I imagine they are elsewhere.
MA needs to consider those sited like http://www.onrpg.com or the like, where thousands of people go to find the next ‘in’ game. Thats how I originally found entropia.
Well as fun as CES is I’ve never thought it was the right place to promote EU. It’s not a ‘gamers’ convention. There’s better and bigger ones in the USA they could go to.
What I think they should do though is organize, along side where ever they go an EU participants thing. Ppl love to go to the game shows dressed as their avatars and / or characters and promote their game. I really think MA misses out on a lot of extra free advertising and promotions throughout their conventions by not having some kind of small side event for participants in conjunction with the show.
No, I’m not talking about MA paying for stuff but maybe someone in the community putting together a group rate of rooms and getting a group rate for 1 dinner together. Yes, ppl pay their own way but the discounts can be huge when in a group. I did this with another game in Vegas and it was a huge success. Some in the community are doing gatherings in several places and it would be awesome to have them in conjunction with the conventions. It not only promotes EU but goes a VERY long way toward community building ![]()
Oh and what Heap said ![]()
Heap find me in game!!! Rock on! ![]()
gamespot would be ok as well.
MA dont need pr, they need a shitload of content. ![]()
BoingBoing (Offworld)
BoingBoing is a huge site that gets a large amount of daily traffic. I have been involved in several internet game/other startups that got a lot of traffic from a post on BoingBoing. And several of the editors, including Cory Doctorow, play and test systems that are discussed on BoingBoing. The Offworld section of BoingBoing is game related.
The VU 10 upgrade to Entropia is just the sort of thing that BoingBoing can post about with enthusiasm.
Submissions to BoingBoing can be submitted via a link at the top left section of the main site.
I’m sure they’ve got plan that suits their budget, demograhic targets, and absorption of new palyer capacity… and have worked out arrangemet with planet partners… but it will be interesting to see where they do show up…
CGW mag..
CGW Magazine would be another good place to start…
It is one of the leading 3d animation industry magazines, and they actually send out free subscriptions to folks in the animation industry. Their articles are usually about video game design, movie special effects design, etc. It’d be a great place to have MA staff do some intereviews and get in depth cover stories from a designers standpoint…

Folks that are in to 3d design usually are also in to playing video games…
Along the same lines, other places to hit in this industry might be to try banner ads and/or even sign up to the forums and start posting links and stuff at places like http://www.3dbuzz.com , http://www.cgtalk.com , http://www.3dlinks.com , maybe even try getting a booth at Siggraph… I’m sure MA has plenty to tell about the technical side of things, and a place like that would be a great place to tell it. http://www.siggraph.org/ (Siggraph would be AN EXCELLENT place to recruit for new designers, coders, etc.)
Also, it might not hurt, since MA developers know what software they are using to hit up the developers of that software so that they get the OK to say that Entropia Universe was made, in part with X… Examples of that would be if you guys are using 3d Studio Max, or Maya - hit up Discreet… if you are using Lightwave - hit up Newtek, etc.
Very Strange to me
The most wired country in the world is Korea. Hell, even the farmers have DSL. The people here are internet game crazy, but no one ever seems to think about the 47 millions people here, go figure…
