We did allow more reactions with fewer restrictions in the past, but the way this system currently works is the result of multiple rounds of additional restrictions prompted by the reactions being abused for personal disputes, harassment, etc.
For example, some of the restrictions were implemented after a period of several days where the total amount of daily Comment Reactions was 10-25x higher than the normal average, with some users spamming hundreds of reactions in a single day.

Fair enough, but I get the sense it may be too twitchy now… runs the risk of putting a clamp on some things that should achieve some virality in the community. Could explain why the bulk of the posts now are buy/sell/pricecheck - Community engagement relies on community feedback.

So, while the servers are down, and we have some time, can we talk about this ridiculous reaction throttle?
There is a lot of really good debate springing up, and one of the easiest ways to participate is by way of a simple thumbs up when all you really need to add is “I agree”… if good contributions don’t seem to receive positive reception in the audience, then eventually it will be silence…
Come on now. If some a-holes use the thing to levels of abuse, then shut them down, not the whole damn community, who generally have a sound grasp on basic human behaviour.
