with releasing the clapyso land deeds, I remember MA officials mentioning that they will use parts of that money from selling for marketing to make EU more popular and bring new folks into it etc.
Does anyone know how this marketing offensive look like and/or when it starts?
EU is a pretty old game already and I have “never” seen any addvertisement/commercial in germany at all so far (except that MA attended at the games con). So I was wondering where the money will go and how this marketing will look like.
Never , MA promisse advertising for many years now , its always pospone in the end…
they will do once again a bullshit land and try to break record (didnt work with last island) , or give some big loot to some player and hope make buzz with it.
In my mind, It’s not MA role to advertise EU in a massive way. Their business is to catch new planet partners.
So i dont expect any big campaign soon or later from them. If i was in charge of marketing, the best i would do is build up a joined campaign with partners with equivalent % of investment than % of shared benefits. I dont know if this is easy to set up as i dont know what money all parties can put on, but my guess it is not obvious at all.
Dave Dobson had said they were targeting the Asian Internet Cafes, which apparently is a huge industry over there, and in the last week the influx of new players has increased on Arkadia.
Planet Cyrene has plans when it launches. Calypso is up to MindArk since they own it. So far we have recently seen the interview at mmorpg.com and only time will tell.
I would say at the moment there are plenty of people playing. The auction houses are steady, plenty of activity at Twins as a barometer!
And as I type a new update unfolds…will it be Taming???
This would exactly fit into MA’s policy. Make others do the work (and pay for it) and MA get all the benefit.
Well, they mentioned there will be marketing though, so I am asking where it is, even though I agree to your statement…I doubt there will ever be marketing since there are enough addicts in EU already that pay 10k PED for a virtual gun. I would too btw, if I had the PED
It should work like in any other bussiness here.
Importer or Producer (MA) should do the big image-building and product campaings, dealers ( planet partners) should do small local product campaings.
Usually part of dealer marketing expenses is paid by an importer/producer.
You see Twins as a barometer for activity? In twins it’s 33% resellers, 33% people selling Sweat/Pixie/Gnome armor parts and 33% just watching to make some fast PED and 1% spend PED in the ring. The shopping mall is a waste of time for people because 99% of the items there that fit into "Weapon/Mining-Amps/FAPs and armor) are just overprized and don’t match the current MU of auction offers). So there is not many people hiding…but where are they? Grinding for attributes like Agility on RT is somehow only limited to people with big armor/guns and tough HP {removed}
I say most activity is on Calypso and Amethera according to Globals with mobs that are not on RT,ARK,NI. So I expect MA to get more people here too. Those new players started on Ark are happy to finally be on Caly (like my disciple, which was lost on Ark - where I found it). Why? Because the hunters that just visit Ark don’t care about new players usually and want to hunt there - but at hunting grounds at Beladoth Stalker areas are not many new people, so they usually read weird HowTo’s and have nobody to talk to really and by interchange of people you LEARN how things work. Since nobody in support ever comment the ingame-dynamics, but exactly this is what new people want to know, I know from people that they are lost when they arrive. We older addicts accepted such bullshit after 5+ years of playing, but new people maybe want to know about ingame-dynamics and how things work. The other new players are lost too and by that people lose interest very fast. Offering them a 10pec sword to kill Puny mobs is really not what I would expect when I start this “game”.
So besides the marketing (which is essential also for Caly) I see the motivation of new players as an important point on the whole thing.
But as you say, time will show and MA also had many plans but never realized them (by mentioning Cyrene).
And my complains should be considered solidaric criticism - because WE ALL only profit if more people get addicted to EU and have people deposit.
Vampire Helena POS: 127400 85720 (Whistlers Creek)
The History of Vampire Helena #1 - kill 500 Werewolves - Reward - 1 Psyche
The History of Vampire Helena #2 - kill 500 Werewolves - Reward - 250 Nova
There are other missions besides killing Dragons if bother looking.
First they have to fix the so called “new player experience”.
Tell one of your family members to register a new EU account and just sit behind her or him without helping in any way and you will see that as it is now, the front door to this game is seriously broken.
Newbies get thrown to some remote island (Calypso Gateway) where there are no veteran players for them to ask for help, they get confused and frustrated, then quit.
It’s not a good idea to advertise an event around the neighborhood when the door to the place in which that event will happen gets jammed often and requires an axe or a crowbar to get through.
If you are aware that there are missions that cater for all players, why did you state that there is only missions for players with "big armor/guns and tough HP - "??:scratch2:
I posted a video response to this 2 minute clip of someone gathering about 25 sweat, in an incredibly boring manner - the video respnse was me with an exciting, unexpected HOF, and added the following comment →
“Makin friends is fun, add me boo riddler → I’m silly enough to do free TP runs by air etc. and give out free syncs (so you can get sweat whilst being hit) I also buy sweat, and do free hair styles. I live by EU, PEDs aren’t that expensive, if you depo, have fun and lose which you will, it’s still cheaper than the pub. :>)”
Boo.
Well you went on the topic about mentioning the missions on RT in first place and i was just stating that there is more missions besides killing dragons. Lets stick to the topic of the thread and lets mention How the Thing was one of the biggist marketing for last year, Arkadia teamed up with alienware and even NI and Transformers did there part in helping the marketing the game. There is so much more for the new player now to do now to try out in the game free, guns, veicles, armor etc. A new player could start on Caly with 100 peds, do the free mission, buy a vtol and thruster. travel between planets have a number of guns, tools and 3 veicles and proberly be half way through his mentorship. That a lot more i had when i started. We dont know what MA or other PP are doing to in marketing area, but they also got to concentrate on bugs (Husk, Underground, TPs in arctic, etc)
As mentioned earlier, the Arkadia marketing is starting (or has started)… also, RockTropia has some ad over on mmorpg.com (not one that would make me join personally, but its an ad at least) and I think ND mentioned they would have a trailer or something on the The THING blueray? :dunno:
Overall, Kim said that they needed to improve the newbie experience before advertising which I guess Arkadia did with the recent update… Calypso is still working on their newbie experience I guess and MindArk are working on the Genesis starter area.
They will also spend 2012 working on improving the newbie experience and space, along with bringing back the last missing systems (taming, mutants), developing new systems for planet partners and improving the current systems
One of the main priorities for MindArk and its Planet Partners in 2012 will be improving the experience for new participants. Our development team is already hard at work redesigning the Genesis new arrivals area, with a focus on making it easier for new participants to become familiar with the user interface and Entropia Universe game concepts. Another priority during 2012 will be improving the balance and performance of existing game systems, along with finalizing the reintroduction of prior game systems disabled after the CryEngine2 conversion.
I liked the idea of getting Alienware and Transformers on board for Ark/NI and also the thing was a good idea and probably got a few hundred people into EU and we might be happy if half if it stay longer than 4 weeks and another 25% maybe deposit on a regular basis (my personal estimation - no proof for that).
What I miss though, is adds/commercials in late night TV and computer gaming related print papers. The gaming industry make more money than the movie industry and that is due to a massive marketing offensive of many studios that bring a new game on the market.
So my point is, I know of a small browser game that has ~100k nonstop active players that is available in 20 countries and several languages and they make much less money than MindArk with EU - but they long time ago started a massive add campaign for their game in compter/game magazines etc. and even run late night TV commercials on german TV. The game can be played with 25 Euro a month, means to me if they can afford that strong adds, why can’t MA?
Is such things planned for the future and if, how they define future? One year or two or maybe 5 years???
Sorry. Kim is representing MA and I do not believe a word they say because all they say is “soon”, “great expirience”, “awesome”, “thrill” and “we can not comment on ingame-dynamics”. Sorry…dont use Kim as a reference. He probably can not even take a shit without getting approval from the CEO (my guess, no offense).
What I miss more than taming and mutants is the fix of existing bugs and a statement from MA officials regarding these bugs. Allthough new features always bring new bugs (they proofed many times) - so instead of stupid features that bring more lag to EU, they should work on fixing performance in space, i.I. TreasureIsland and many other places because that would be a great improvement that actually make people happy (again, my very personal view).
Thanks for sharing though, looking forward to the THING BlueRay.
