What is your opinion on the optimum time to kill creature?

The goal is to provide accurate data to new and old players about optimum time to kill creature, and since everyone has different opinion on this, I wanted to reach out on forum and check what would be community agreed average optimum time to kill, where the hunter’s loot would be most stable at.

Basically if you one shot creature, it will drop only shrapnel, and loot will be highly unstable, also on the other end if you shoot it for too long, loot will be weird and highly unstable in short term, what would be the “golden middle” in your opinion ?

If options doesn’t contain your preferred time to kill, please provide your opinion in the reply.

There is no “optimal time”, only optimal cost
To quote dev notes, “In general, the lower the cost to kill a creature, the higher the proportion of loot composition will be Optimal Loot. There is no inherent “kill timer” for each creature; Optimal Loot is calculated based on costs, not on time.”

[I]It is important to note that Optimal Loot only affects loot composition (what you loot), not the loot value (how much you loot). There is no Optimal Loot penalty for hunting creatures that are well below your avatar’s level; in fact most such kills will meet the requirements for Optimal Loot composition.

To best achieve Optimal Loot:

[li]Be sure to have the Hit Ability and Damage profession requirements maxed (10.0/10.0) on the weapon your avatar is using.[/li][li]Avoid over-amping (using a weapon amplifier that adds more than 50% of the maximum damage of the weapon to which it is equipped).[/li][li]Minimize healing costs and the need to interrupt damage dealing to heal.[/li][/ul]

You can also translate this to “time to kill” in the context of what I explained in original post. If you one shot the creature you paid more then you should, also if you shoot it for too long, it regenerated a lot therefore you paid more then you should.

And what is exact optimal cost to kill for instance Atrox? Nobody knows, it’s behind loot algorythm, but working back from optimum time cost can be calculated approximately for each creature. All we know is that it’s best to kill it fast, before it had any chance to regenerate, and at the same time if you shoot at it whole day and let it regenerate it will result in unstable loot instance.

We are still talking about approximate data as nobody can 100% confirm one or another, and nobody will ever be able to.

Faster would be better in this scenario, but the hunter would need to also ensure they aren’t over killing or over amping else it could have a negative impact on the composition / returns. One hitting a mob doesn’t always mean better.

I did testing with hyper 5s, 10s, and 15s and found that on the mob I was testing, the best returns were on the 10mg, but it was all in relation with the regen and cost, so I didn’t interpret it as the time to kill as a factor, if that makes sense.

Killing a mob quickly with a Swine Deluxe vs slower with an imk2 is different.

One thing i can say having looter and high eff i was getting like 97% worst mayhem. So far i really notice killing a shitload of mobs for 20-30 days made my returns good overall. Possible next Christmas to push to a 2mil cost+

There’s no such thing as optimal kill time.

If there was, ubers wouldn’t kill eomon stalkers, Molochs and other very high hp mobs.

All about balancing dpp versus dps versus a mobs hp regen.

When its dry.

Noticed this too.

I might hunt 2-4 hour day regulary per month.

But when i have done 4-8 hour day per month it has been better.

Seem’s it is related to cycle amount, kill amount or how active you are.

When i have played less i’v seen bigger 'swings".

But who knows maybe it’s rng or MA opening/closing valve. ??‍♂️

Time to kill in itself doesn’t matter, it’s just if it takes too long per mob you don’t kill enough per session for your returns to even out.

You should see returns on big eomon, but as i mention in previous post if we could kill as many eomon we kill mobs in mayhem i think returns would be more stable.

Here is my last interaction with eomon 95,77% (and its kind of low if u can push to 2 mil cost on them).

Time to kill is important. I would go for max 20 seconds and not less than 5 seconds…In first case, more than 20 seconds, you are either killing a mob that is above your level or you cannot diminish regen. In the second case, less than 5 seconds, you are overkilling.

I know it’s simplified, but in my experience that is optimal. You do not miss much of a wave and you can diminish the regen of the mob with your dps.

All that being said, this would require to have 2 weapons, one for smaller mobs for avatar’s level and one for bigger.

Killing the mob before it kills me is the perfect time
