Has anyone been able to get PE to run using an Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics card?

1.5 GHZ Intel Celeron M
502 MB RAM
64 MB Video
Drivers are all updated.
Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have no idea if this is gonna work. There’s a chanse though, but it will most likley be a horrid experience I’m affraid. I know too little about the GFX crad you have to come with any help about it. sorry. Best of luck.
I think your videocard is not good enough to run PE. Also 502 (what must be 512 I think) is very minimal. Better 1024.

Thanks for the help!
The client status page on the client loader had red X’s next to almost everything, even though i know some of my system meets the requirements. It said 0 mb RAM, which obviously isn’t true. But maybe my system is more underequipped than i thought.
I am also using an Intel Graphics Card - the 82845 model, and I am experiencing the same problem. I meet all the other specs required for the game. My graphics card is 64mb, which isnt completely out of date yet is it? I’ve tried running on low specs and it still wont work:(
Your graphics card is not a real graphics card. You have what is called Shared Video, or Intel Integrated Graphics. What happens is, your motherboard takes a specified amount of your total ram (usually 64mb) and dedicates it to Video Memory. So if you bought a PC with 512mb Ram, and it says you only have 502 or anything else, you have this shared memory “problem”. The only true solution is to buy a real Graphics Video Card. At least a 126mb Video Card is recommended, 256mb would be better though for this game and other “newer” games. If you do have this “problem” then chances are you do not have an AGP Slot, so you will have to make sure when you buy a video card, it says “PCI”, not “AGP”, or “PCI-Express 16”. I know this will help, I am sure it is not the solution you are looking for, but it is the only possible solution.
btw. You can buy decent 256MB Video Cards for around $80-100. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s the only solution. Sorry
If you bought your PC with 512MB Ram, and it says you have 512, but you have Intel Graphics, then you have “Intel Integrated Graphics Extreme 2”. Basically, this has it’s own memory (either 64 or 96, depending on your PC) but it has no Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) so the game will run a bit better, but not much. If you are not running at least a 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 with this type of “Graphic Card” you will have an EXTREMELY hard time running the game. My suggestion that will work, try avoiding cities and largely populated areas as much as possible! This will make it easier on your PC.
hey shawn,
thanks for the detailed explanation. i had been wondering what “shared video” actually meant, and why the dxdiag said i only had 502 mb of RAM.
unfortunately, my pc is a laptop, and as far as i know, adding a graphics card is not a possibility. is this correct?
so i think PE may have to wait until I get a new desktop…
thanks!

You can add a graphics card to a laptop, but unless you have some experience with upgrading laptop’s, I’d hire someone to do it. Most local PC Repair shops will do it for a small fee. Laptop’s are extremely easy to break once you’ve opened it. I can’t tell you the countless times I have accidently snapped an IDE cable when trying to close it, or accidently broke a transistor or capacitor off of the motherboard (luckily every laptop I have accidently damaged is company property, so it didn’t affect me at all). If you do attempt this, just be EXTREMELY careful! But it is possible.

Very very few laptop models have exchangable graphics cards.
Well, might be just another noobs’ 2Pecs into this,
PE frequently crashes with a black screen (monitor making noises as if it was switched off).
Crashes sometimes occur only few seconds after the game had been started, sometimes it’ll give me about an hour before it crashes.
Machine is P4 2.6 with Radeon 9800pro - latest driver - directX 9c - 2Mbit-connection - passed 3D-Mark '05 with about 2.4K points and without crashing!?
Wouldn’t pass 3D-Mark, only to fail when playing PE, would it?
Problem might be my tiny 512MB RAM of which (3D-Mark said) only 260MB were available.
Could that be the weak spot in my system? Any comments on that any1?
Ordered another 512MB this afternoon anyway and will let you Know if it helped, since it might be quite usefull to others, who are dealing with similar problems.

I’ve heard of this happening if the Refresh rate is too high, but I think its a long shot.
Also try disabling the wind. That used to really screw with my PC until MA gave us that option.

your ammount of memory shouldnt cause that problem swoop, i play with only 512mb its ok but tends to lead to a lot of HD caching,
EDIT: occured to me last night its probably refresh rate problem :dunce:

Disabling the wind?
You are pulling my leg, aren’t you? Where the heck should that switch be located? Right beside the switch that would have allowed me to switch off the sub zero°C last night in order to prevent myself from de-icing my car this morning, freezing my fu… fingers off?
Honestly speaking - does that switch really exist? And if so, where do I find it? I still think, you are kiddin’ me, but…hhm, well :dunce:
Regarding the refresh rate - was pre-set to ”default”, whatever that may be!?
Re-adjusted to 85 which is the current refresh rate I’m operating my monitor with and got about…yeah, could have been 8 seconds of playtime I got.
Will try to run it with a lower setting - like 60 or some - this afternoon and see if that has any impact.
Besides that, cyco animals tip to remove the Radeon for a little maintenance shouldn’t do any harm either (drivers were removed and re-installed more than once the last days).
As for the noise my monitor did - its the normal sound you’ll hear when switching off any monitor or TV or whatever (no flatscreen or plasma though).
Yes disabling the wind is an option, in game press the ‘o’ key (for options :silly2: ) then in the bottom right there are some check boxes one of which will say ‘Disable wind’
To the person who had the black screen on the monitor with odd noises then yes this is because the refresh rate is too high and note it can damage your monitor as well, no idea how to fix it tho, all I can suggest is removing all gfx drivers and re-installing which was the only thing that cured it for me.
You’d be suprized just how many you can change the graphics cards in…if you have a “dead” on or happen to get a chance, take on apart, you’ll be amazed and how many parts can be replaced/swapped.
Seems as if the lack of RAM was the reason for my system to crash every now and then!
Just upgraded from 512MB to 1024MB yesterday evening and now PE is running quite stable.
Main contributor might have been my Win XPhome, which needs about 250MB of RAM to run itself, so there is not much recources left for the game to use.
Maybe a hint for others around if it comes to frequent crashes and things
If you’re still using 256MB ram…UPGRADE!! 1GB is what I recommend if you’re going to be doing any gaming, but the more then better! Ram is decently cheap right now, so go buy some!
A decent video card is also needed! Intel Graphics are NOT made for gaming at all! If you do not upgrade, you are going to be facing crashes, major lag, and sometimes certain games will not even install if it does not detect a fast enough card. Simply put, Intel Graphics are only good for simple everyday stuff like surfing the web or burning a dvd, but for gaming, you’re going to need something more! It makes a world of difference!
