USELESS Mentor!

Hello,

I need to know how to remove a completely USELESS mentor. If you want me to name him I will…I just didnt think the rules on this board would allow it.

He suckered me in.

My first day I was approached by this individual and he asked me if I was new…I said I was and he offered mentorship.

He then went on to explain all of the benefits, etc, such as advice, help, and even PED’s and armor if I needed it. He also offered to share all of his hof’s if they happened and said that if I signed up he would give me a “present” after my first week.

I thought this was great because I really needed a start in the game…so I played as regularly as possible and saw him often…whenever I asked his help he was always too busy jumping around like a bofoon while showing off his pretty brown jacket he liked to remind people he bought on sale.

After the first week I didnt see a big deal, I thought, well he’s useless but at least I’ll get maybe my first weapon after the first week.

Present never came, instead he avoided the topic like the plague and had “connection problems”.

Note: whenever I did see him he was always getting other disciples and spent most of his time ignoring them also.

He comes off rather curt also…he has a tendancy to be incredibly rude to his disciples, calling them “Noobs” ordering them about and teasing them often.

Note: I heard him talking to another player about disciples…they were comparing numbers…my mentor said he had 20 (!!!) disciples…how can you possibly mentor properly when you have that many disciples? The other guy was worse…he said he had around 40!

Now, after about three weeks I’m fed up with this obnoxious little upstart and I wish to remove him as my “MENTOR”.

UNFORTUNATELY this lackwit cannot be removed by me…is there any way to get MA to do it?

Also is there anyway to report him to MA for just being a useless mentor? Seriously this guy is getting a new disciple everyday and he’s even gotten some of them to form a society that he treats like his private doormat.

All the best,
Emaleth

(most of this was given as advice from someone who SHOULD be my mentor)

Sorry to hear that.

You cant kick him normally and I dont know if it helps reporting him to MA. You might try though. He lied to you and that might qualify as scamming… hard to say how MA reacts - possibly they do nothing as this isnt too uncommon and no one loses money.

This really sounds too good to be true. Too bad new players really cant know it does…

I wouldn’t mind knowing the name of this dirtbag.

No, unfortunately, there’s not.

It’s a major problem with the mentoring system.

I hope you haven’t deposited, or at least not deposited too much.

I have an idea that may help - although it isn’t a totally satisfactory solution: Create a new account / avatar. Totally give up the current one - that way your moocher-er, ‘mentor’ won’t gain anything when you complete your apprenticeship. (BTW, that’s why they do this - it’s totally taking advantage of the system)

Start off fresh with your new avatar and work on building those skills. If you want a mentor (I never had one - seem to be doing fine), look around the forum here and see who you trust to be a good mentor. You’ll get a good feel for who people are. Of course, don’t wait too long or you won’t be able to get a mentor.

One snag, however: if you’ve deposited with a credit card, you’ll need to use a different one for the new avatar

MA really needs to do something about this. Maybe if enough people continue to complain, they finally will.

BTW - if you do this and decide you still want a mentor, I’m skilled enough in longblades to mentor, and I have no disciples. It’s something I’ve thought about trying…

Im sorry this happened to you :frowning:
Its sad but true, such do happen. All the time. People take advantage of the mentorsystem. There are good mentors also tho, very good mentors.

I myself dont usually mentor unless Im asked to. Simply because there is alot of people making new avatars all the time, just so they can get stuff. Then they transfer to another account and stop playing with the new avatar.

I think this problem is holding back alot of good people from mentoring.
And that again leaves the mentor-“market” to alot of bad people who’s just out for the rewards.

Btw whats the name? I like to pk him some day

which is why i do not mentor much, but when i do, i ask a simple question… “Do you deposit?” … if they say no, then they will not be my disciple. if they say yes, then i tell them that i cannot give them anything free except for advice and tips on how to play the game.

Ive only had one serious diciple. He got to 32% before he quit.
He was a cool guy.. When I met him he asked me if he had to pay ME to be his mentor and that he had nothing to offer.

Since he didnt reach 100% he gave me a teddy instead.
He joined my society after a while.
And all his stuff worth about 200ped to a socmate of mine..

I miss him :frowning:

you can remove him… IF you are not to skilled .. I think somewere around 30% is the max.. and then you cant remove him :frowning: but he can still kick you.

Are you sure I’m allowed to? I don’t want to get in trouble off MindArk or the moderators here…

Plus, you guys might know him and be friends with him

Do you have add him into your Friendlist ?

Just Bomb him Everyday with Messages like “Kick me Kick me and i will Stop this Kick me …”

Got the Idea from another Thread about Scammed People

you wont get problems with MA for sure and as for MindBuster… I think he’d just edit it if it was a problem. we have named pk’ers, ks’ers e.t.c before so..

And if he was my friend Id kick his ass anyway.

problem is - its more likely to get locked from doing this than scamming people into being disciples :frowning:

indeed. so dont do it or you will proably get locked ;/

Report to MA in support, if nothing can be done then…

Get a screenshot of his nasty comments etc with a date stamp and his name highlighted(with the cursor over his avat) and send the screenie to me so i can add to the “Hall of shame” sight coming soon…

Then —>

Have you skilled much? If not, then create a ‘new’ Avatar

only other solution is if you havn’t spent to much or got many skills start a new avatar.

If you want to be my disciple i’ll give you youre mentor reward. Dont belive that i will? You can ask my last 4 graduated disciples.

ask around at Corinth for me someone there will probably have me on flist just ask for Rex of nAn.

This is awful.
I agree with the said comments that it might behove you to write support about it. At the very least perhaps MA would give the guy a really bad gift after the mentorship

I wouldn’t mind knowing the guy’s name either, as others have suggested…
If I were you, and of course I’m not and of course I probably have a bigger mouth than you do, I would at the very least go around telling every1 who he is and what he has done. If he knows you are publicly displaying his very poor reputation he might be willing to kick you  But of course that can lead to other ramifications that might not be so good for you… again, I would do it but I can’t help but be a bitch at times :girl: And the guy is just asking for it imo

I think it sucks! that guy sucks! The whole mentor system sucks!
I dont know, I was raised differently, my parents taught me from childhood that a relationship between a master, a teacher, and his student is a sacred thing. it is up to the student to reward his master, and not to throw this stuff upon the mercy of an automated bug-prone system.

Disciples should have some sort of checkpoint list, which they would check off, to rate their mentors “satisfactory” or not. I mean, this is imbalanced.
The disciple gets nothing, but a mentor gets an item. Out of disciple’s pocket.
Not many masters “feed” their disciples. I think it’s rather contradictory. It’s a matter of becoming friends with your master I guess.

On the other hand, why in the world should masters give anything to the students or expect anything from them? It seems like a fair trade off: an item in exchange for advice.
But advice is not a physical item. It’s words, information. Information can also be a lie.

In my understanding, the only proper reward for information is yet - another piece of information. Or a simple “thank you”. Not an item. I mean, what kind of advice do these scammers offer?

On the other hand, n00bs must be aware of their own protection. Before accepting someone as your master, KNOW the person! Hang ingame for a week, two, three - find out who reputable people are, look on forums.
Take the game seriously. And you will not be scammed easily.

And on yet the other hand (how many hands now?), being my own devil’s advocate here, SOME mentors DO deserve rewards, some deserve a lot more than the game currently offers. Some mentors are extremely friendly, valuable, and caring, they treat students like online friends, not like virtual slaves.

I was very lucky with my mentor, and I wish the system of rewards was implemented then. Unfortunately it wasn’t. He deserves it all, because he really taught me a lot, and he is to thank for all I have and can do now. I offered him several times - to share with him parts of my loot, but he declined and said “Have fun”. It’s not that he shared hints or strategies on ultimate profit, but I always knew that if i had a problem or a question - I knew who I can come to and talk to. I knew he would not lie to me in order to make me lose. I knew that if something is a secret - he would just say “Sorry, it’s a secret”, instead of sending me the wrong way.

I knew that if I’m having a hard time - I can count on him.

That’s what I call a real mentor. And if he is ever in trouble - I’ll give him everything I own, since he raised me and brought me to PE, gaining my full trust PE-wise.

These kinds of mentors deserve rewards. But still, should it not be up to the STUDENTS - to rate their mentors? if a mentor is helpful, and a student is grateful - the real learning and the real teaching will be going on. And the student will naturally have a desire to thank the master. A pop-up window, asking “Were you satisfied with your mentor during this time period?”

In fact, it should be a constant menu, not a one-time pop-up. It should be negotiable, so that the Mentor can talk to the student and ask them about how they would like to improve the situation.

But the ultimate solution - is for students to be able to quit the program at any time.
This of course brings up a problem of run-off students, who run off with mentor’s peds…

yeah, it’s complicated…

well, another solution is to implement 2 modes of mentoring: paid mentoring and free mentoring.

With paid mentoring, the mentor gives a student some amount of something… but the student cannot quit. Kind of like it is now.

Free mentoring would be advice-only, and would let students quit at will.

Students would have decide in the beginning - what they would expect from their teachers, and which type of mentoring they desire to enter.

Rewards should also differ. Paid mentoring should give more output to the mentor.

Ah… re-reading my own post I see how my logic fails in almost every point.
There is no right solution I guess. Mentoring is a bizzare idea, very bizzare to put it on an automatic counter.

Maybe… this can be solved with a Graduation reward? Also automatic, given at the same time to the student, as the mentor reward is given to the mentor. How about that?

Would you have done it if it was a Rockjacker ME or a mk5me?

Sure, the disciples maybe got a ME reward, but was it the actual reward you got or did you buy them a sollomate tasmo ME?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The Mentor system needs a seriouse overhall. I don’t think MA truely though out all the Pros and Cons when they created it. A rating system by your disiple would be a huge benefit. I think MA could easily introduce this.

Faust, that would possibly lead to disciples screwing teachers. leeching off them until they become powerful, and then give them poor reviews, leaving them squat.
