Okay, not sure I agree with most of those… <— especially that one. That is used by many to indicate a long pause like Kay-T said. We use it when a “.” or a “,” just isnt long enough.
As for “!!!” alot of people use this to express excitement ie. “Whoaaaa… just netted myself a 4k UBER on a snable!!!”
People cant hear us in text and that is why we express ourselves so OTT.
It is lack of punctuation and expression in posts is what really annoys me

Well thats the art of a good writer, adding emotion into the text, however I am a rubbish writer, so I cheat.
ExcitedOh my I do believe i made 2PEC profit this eve. Upset It does appear that my life hasd been expired by a rather nasty Atrox. Disappointed I do appear to have spent 400PEDs on mining and have only found 1.5PEDs worth of binary fluid. Tis a hard life!
PS. whats the point of SMS aside from sales spam, someone clue me in? Please.

To Be, or not to be obvious…(I also like to use this three-or-more-dots long pauses) …
to be obvious:
SMS is the thing you send to your friend or whatever, containing a message, that is not urgent, but important. Like sending someone´s phonenumber, movie-ticket-reservation-number etc. whic is cumbersome to handle by phone…you just might not have paper and pen to write it down or you can mishear the important number. Shopping-list to your room-mate is one of these things.
SMS is also a good and easy way to send valentine day´s hello to your friend (in Finland valentine´s day is friendship day as: all-friends-day). And it would cost huge amount of cash to send a card to everyone. And you are able to send the message on time, even if you just realized the mark on the calendar -and not be late! Sending a card two days late on your friends name-day is very awkward, sending an SMS handles it nice and tidy.
It is also very easy way to call (ALL) friends together for an event, like a party “My house, 19th August 6 o`clock PM, be there :)” Calling everyone separatelly would end up chit-chatting nonsense (at least I am guilty of this) and someone might get the phonecall too late or even miss it all-together etc. Sending Multi-Receiver-SMS is instant and effective way of sending just the core of the message. Even if the phone is currently offline, you can be sure your friend will receive the message when he opens his phone again…no need to call again and again to check if he has opened the phone yet.
SMS is also very fast way to say your thing, without the hazard of bothering your friend or just a way to avoid face-contact in basful situations.
You can also storage those messages, telephone call you can not preserve.
Uhm and yet one thing…you can also REsend those messages, which is not always a good thing.
SMS is ideal if its only 1 thing you need to say, generally not needing a reply. However unfortuantly teh trap is its easy to send an SMS and cheaper than a call! so you send them back and forth until by the time you’ve finished you’ve spent more than a simple call wouldhave cost.
Also working in a school I see all the kids using SMS cause then they can silently talk in class and no one will ever know!
No idea why Maybe it’s just all those young numps wandering around staring blankly at a phone while their fingers go “click click click click fkn click” ARRGHHH… ← (notice my use of periods here) and their mates are RIGHT BESIDE THEM! How much more of a twit can you possibly be?
That I completely agree with.
I know people who live next door and will SMS each other until they go blue in the face, wouldn’t mind but the walls are that thin that fi they talked they would hear each other!
SMS yes its useful while commenting to a friend in a movie (make sure you dont have the alert for it turned on) so peopll edont “shush” you or complain about you talking on the phone.
It is useful when there is not enough reception on either party’s phone to sustain a voice call (i have a friend who lives in a trailer/mobilehome its a glorified tin shelled faraday cage) and sometimes her computer is all gunked up with spyware it doesnt function enough to run yahoo. It makes a good note pad or quick note to someone like happy birthday or other holiday wish or a simple pleasant wish out of the blue.
When a call or letter is too expensive (say someone who lives in another country) and you know they are not at thier computer to engage in VOIP call, messanger chat or log on to a bbs/mmorg/irc/etc. Possably to find out when they will be at thier computer so you can engage in longer convo.
When you in publick with your buddy and taking about an inside joke or a comment about the looks, attire or other aspect of another person within earshot. you send sms so they dont hear and it stays between you and your buddy (wich is probrably why alot of teens do it) If that person is a lover you reall dont want to talk about how good they were in bed last night in the open while on the local transit bus packed with people
Extra punctuation…
… (long pause the more… the longer the pause)
!!! (extreme excitement) picture someone on a tv gameshow who won a big prize.. how do they act? how would you describe in the shortest possable way that excitement (they usually scream, jump up and down scream somemore and hug the host and repeat)
example: I got my first uber HoF!!!
??? extreme disbelive…
Mindark locked your account just because yo told someone thier avatar has a nice ass??? (as in: your sh*tt’ing? Really? OMFG!?)
Yup, I’m a real stickler for spelling and proper english - and always do my best to make sure my posts are correct, but I AM guilty of one of those problems, and simply have a hard time correcting it…
Yup, that’s it! :silly2: The dreaded … I just can’t stop using it … I don’t know why … but it just comes naturally to me … and I must use it to seperate my written thoughts online.
No matter how hard I try they keep … coming … back.
  :tongue2:
Sorry, I just had to do it. Point taken Shadow-Ale.
Just to clarify a few things: This post is NOT to bash on anyones english, I think all languages has some similar gramar like punctuation and such. Just keep in mind when writing a post, that there are a few different readers out there: Those with english as first language, those with english as second language, and those that suffer from dyslexia and such problems making reading a problem.
Ever tried to use a etct-to-speach-converter on tis forum? It’s kinda funny from time to time.
Ultimababe: Yeah, some use !!! … as excitement-levels, but as someone else marks, happy explains it so much better, and is easier to read for all.
O.o Well im sorry mister but thsi is the best i can do !!! imno good at english really but even stuff i type in my own language is like this i understand your frustration …but cant help it SOVY … would u rather like us not to say anything ??? becase good english is impossible at an international forum unless its pure uber geeks with high exams!!!
for your convinience: ,…!!! ??? to be distributed as u see fit to delete use the key with the arror pointing left usualy located near f12
