While I may not fit into the category addressed, I often participate in the year end clearance threads. As such I may shed some light on the motivation behind the trend. Mayhem season is one of the best times to list gear for sale since new competitors are looking to gear up.
A new year is also a time of introspection, looking at what worked and what didn’t, and trying new things in the new year. Consequently the seasonal trend is that many people list many items on the market toward the end of the year and beginning of the new one.
