If you are in to Guitar music, then you should try buying the album of Joe Satriani called: Surfing with the alien.
It is a great album, do enjoy…

NN.

oh wow… this is too challenging…
Here are some genres I love the most and some names that stand out

Classic rock (Led Zepp, Pink Floyd, Hendrix)
80s- Yes I’m a SUCKER for 80s! the Police are among my fav’s there, Crowded House, New Order, The Pretenders, etc etc.
Surf- don’t mess with Dick Dale… and if you don’t know who he is, pls google him!
Modern style rock/alternative. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Radiohead, etc.etc…
Punk. The Ramones.

I also like Jazz (Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, etc).
Raggae is ok, but mostly I just prefer Bob Marley there
I also like Irish stuff… The Pogues for sure

Add-Ins that I forgot  The Beatles!!! I will always love Willie, and Waylon, the man in black Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison… ah the list goes on… but ya, always listened to them and always will. :cowboy:
The Killers, Portishead (LOVE THEM), The Cure, The Sundays, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, NIN, more to list! :girl: Guess i will keep editing to accomodate my growing list

I like rock/punk/metal,anything with fat riffs

Mostly Metallica,Dia Psalma and Ramones

depends, when listening commercial radio, lates pophits there, bring it on Black Eyed Peas etc. when clubbin, nothing can beat like Dj Tiesto etc, good dance or R n’ B, also my heart beats for metalmusic, mostly finnish bands, like HIM, Mokoma, Kotiteollisuus.

what i dont like is jazz, blues, classical (ok depends)

:kos:

Oh my. I listen to EVERYTHING I find myself liking.

That includes: (putting it in “plain” genre’s, I dont care to list them up seperatly as Prog Rock, Symphonic Metal etc. Would take too long)

Black Metal and other types of metal: Tristania and Muse is the ones I can think of atm thats really made goosebumps on my skin. Also ALOT of other, Manowar, Hammerfall, Ulver, Tool, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Rhapsody and so on.

Rock: Dream Theater, RHCP, Alice in Chains, A Perfect Circle, Finger Eleven, Incubus and so much more.

Pop: Bel Canto (My moms cousin makes all the music btw..), some Bertine Zetlitz, in dont know where to place her so I place her here: Tori Amos, the queen of emotional music.

Jazz.. Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhart and well.. almost everything old jazz. I dont like the new “modern” jazz, electronical jazz. Its just not soothing my ears

Classic. The old classics, and also Apocalyptica and Vanessa Mae. Some of Danny Elfman’s music (for example the soundtracks from Edward Scissorhands) also fits in here.

Arabian Music is something that “came along” when I met Gnash, and I gotta say its extraordinary. Aswell is Klezmer music.
Reagge is also great.

Now, thats the ones I can think of right now
Its so many soundsensations, and I have just taken a little bite of what the world got to offer. Looking forward to exploring more.

Mostly heavy metal. Some nice bands are : Opeth, Arch Enemy, Rage, Dark Tranquillity, and of course, Darkane. But I can enjoy most kinds of rock music as long as it isn’t too commercialized and produced only to make ped… eh.. money.

I also like David Bowie.

Jeez, you want I should write a novel?

I like all sorts of music. Some artists I like in general, some I like a couple offerings.

I was in high school in the 80’s, so a lot of the 80’s pop/rock I enjoy: Tears for Fears, Robert Palmer, Bon Jovi, Madonna (I don’t really like her newer stuff though), Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, Dire Straits, Billy Idol, etc.

I also like general rock, light or heavy, like Journey, Foreigner, Aerosmith, Stones, Eagles, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and so on.

Newer rock-type groups like Dishwalla, and a bunch of others that I don’t know the name but I know the songs (Lightning Crashes, Black Hole Sun, Bodies, etc.)

Also enjoy country - especially Alan Jackson (Midnight in Montgomery is one of my favorites). I sort of grew up on that, since it’s all my parents listened to.

I also really like classical, with a strong leaning toward Mozart, although Moonlight Sonata is my absolute favorite (trying to learn it on piano right now), and Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto (I played that one in college - that was a challenge!)

My absolute favorites, though, would have to be Leather Strip, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and Saviour Machine.

FWIW

thats a funny quote. Most people saying that have no idea what commercialized means. Please say what it means to you

I edited my post slightly. I meant music created to make money instead of music created as an artistic expression. :wise:

Ah ok  That changes it alot.

People seem to use “commercialized” if a band suddenly breaks through and stop playing and their local bar because now they can live out of playing gigs. in some enviorments its cool to be “special” and listen to music not everyone else listens too. But stop liking them when everyone else starts doing just that

I find that silly. There have been a lot of great bands that are like that. They havent changed. Just cause others like them now doesnt mean they suck. On the other hand, i find that RHCP changed a lot from thier roots when they got popular. Although i think that also had a lot to do with the band member overdose. i cannot stand “Under the bridge”.

Ciao a tutti..

Just to name a few :

Tool , A Perfect Circle, KoRn, Placebo , Nine Inch Nails, Sinch , Cold, Sunna, Mindless Self Indulgence …

:headbang:

The more years that pass by the harder it is for me to respond to these topics. I listen to, literally, anything. I don’t belive in an entire genre being “crap”.

Lately I’ve been listening to alot of Johnny Cash(country), Edith Piaf(old 1930/40 french vocal/pop stuff), lots of indian and classical music. Also still playing lots of Drum’n’Bass lately .. Pendulum, Evol Intent, Spor, Fresh, Baron, I listen to too many different DnB artists.

The main thing I guess you could say I am into is crazy electronic stuff, like Aphex Twin, or Squarepusher, and the many styles they spawned so far in there careers. Sometimes I feel like some happy stuff like Telefon Tel Aviv, Prefuse 73 (which is very hip-hop influenced .. awesome stuff! Chopped up vocals rule! ), Lexaunculpt, or many others. Sometimes fast minutely programed stuff like Squarepusher (alot of his music is called “Drill’n’Bass” reffering to the insane tempos of his songs), The Flashbulb, or Mouse on Mars. Sometimes when I feel like evil, distorted, breakcore I’ll listen to Venetian Snares, Lolita Storm, Alec Empire… too many things.

I also love dancey kind of stuff too - I go to raves occasionally.
I love the classic stuff like Prodigy, esspecially there old corny rave songs back when they were practically inventing the style. Fatboy Slim has made quite a few amazing songs too, and definetly Chemical Brothers. Dust Brothers (no relation to Chemical Brothers) also kick ass, the’re the ones who did the Fight Club soundtrack! Also I love corny, happy electro! Stuff like DMX Krew kicks ass! I guess the best way to explain it to others is to say it’s a more updated, crips, and evolved version of Depeche Mode, atleast going by there “Speak & Spell” album.

I also love anything with great singing… Bjork, Lamb, Styrofoam, Luomo, Hanayo, way too many to name here. I’ve also found quite a bit of hip-hop I enjoy recently .. Immortal Technique, Anti-Pop Consortium, and of course the Beastie Boys!

The more I type the more I remember how much music I am forgetting..

Another big thing is punk .. oldschool and the various forms of newschool(not blink 182.. god no!). The Ramones do kick ass! Crass .. Bad Brains .. But personally I am more into female vocals. I love the riot girl side of things. Huggy Bear, X-Ray Spex, The Slits.. that stuff kicks ass^%!$%!^@
As for new punk… Refused, International Noise Conspiracy, or what I am really into is punk/electronic music(punktronica.. LoL). Like Atari Teenage Riot, Ec8or, Lolita Storm(again), Hansel, F_Noise, Nazis from Mars, if anything… this is the genre where I could spill out names for hours.

I’m going to quickly finish this up though because I am getting scared on how big this will be when I click submit. Surf .. hell yes, Svetlana.. Dick Dale! Classical music .. I love anything with pianos, violins, and cellos. Itzahk Perlman, Chopin, Mozart… Mozart’s opera also kicks ass(even though the intro/outro is so overplayed.. O Fortuna.. you’ll know what it is once you hear it)!
I also love stuff like The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Rob Zombie, Slayer(!!!), and Mindless Self Indulgence.

Well, as you can see… by next year I’ll have another 2 paragraphs to add to this. I listen to too much music and try my best to hear every possibility in sound there is. I never listen to the radio or music television… this is only hurting music at the moment. :frowning: For awhile I thought there was nothing good out there! I listened to almost exclusivly Aphex Twin and Atari Teenage Riot for a few years before I realized they were only mere blips on the radar of good music. There’s good stuff out there it just takes a bit of searching and a genuine wanting of more out of music than “Britney Spears” or “50 Cent” has to offer. Hope I didn’t kill you all with my long post .. just know it could have been longer!

Ciao!
