The Future of Mayhem: Vendor Changes

[HEADING=1]The Future of Mayhem: Vendor Changes[/HEADING]
Greetings Colonists,

In our previous updates on the future of Mayhem, we talked about some of the upcoming short term changes to the Mayhem Format, including changes to the instances, how tokens are obtained, and detaching Resource Events from the Mayhem format.

In this update, we want to share with you our plans for the longer term, in particular in regards to the vendor.

[HEADING=2]Sustainability[/HEADING]
One of the biggest challenges faced by the current setup of the Mayhem Event format lies with the vendor. Whilst unlimited items provide a great incentive and a valuable reward for players, it isn’t without issue.

In short, the faucet of tokens into the economy has been increased, participation in the format has also been very high, and the vendor has remained primarily used for the purpose of obtaining high-end UL items. This combined with expectations for restocks of these items has created a cycle which brings UL items into the game at an unsustainable rate - and frustration from players expecting and waiting for said items to be stocked.

Therefore, our plan is to remove UL items entirely from the vendor once stock is depleted, replacing them with exceptional, limited versions, and craftable exceptional limited versions that consume items from the economy. These “exceptional” style items provide long lasting items, but items that will ultimately expire with use. We believe that this still provides meaningful incentive for many players to participate, whilst ensuring UL items do not become more overabundant.

It is not lost on us that this is a very fundamental change, but we hope that you understand the necessity and reasoning behind it. Our goal is to set the economy within Entropia on the right path and create a sustainable Mayhem Format, and this requires us to take strong decisions for the long term betterment of players, the economy and game.

Of course we understand that such a drastic shift must be done in as fair a way as possible, whilst also ensuring we make this shift sooner rather than later. As such, our plan for how we will execute this is as follows.

[HEADING=2]Process of Change and Restock[/HEADING]
While we will be moving forward with a different model for the vendor, we will make both normal and rare Mayhem Tokens tradable for a fixed period to allow players agency in this transitional period.

In addition to this, we will also provide a final restock of some unlimited items at the end of this period. However, once these items, and existing UL stock has been depleted, their listings will be removed from the vendor.

Our hope is that this process will give players agency regarding the vendor and future of Mayhem. The process and dates will be as follows:

[ol]
[li]Between 29th April and 27th May, tokens will temporarily be made tradeable. This will allow a grace period for players to offload/buy up tokens if they feel it is in their best interest with the changes going forward[/li][li]In the week directly following the end of this period, we will post a notice detailing the days and times when vendor restocking will take place, accounting for players of different timezones.[/li][/ol]

We know that these changes will have a significant impact on players in many different ways. Our aim with this update is to provide transparency and certainty in this transitional period. We believe that this is the way forward for a fundamentally sustainable format.

We will continue to look at feedback you all provide to help inform any future changes or adjustments.

Thank you for your continued passion and love for Entropia Universe.

Will the limited items always be in stock?

I actually haven’t checked if the vendor has been restocked but with Mayhem starting in less than three hours I assume it is?

So i have absolutely no chance of having any unlimited gear from it. Like any player who would have wanted to do so.
Take care.

Guessing the first thread on this will now be closed to give Bertha priority… thanks for the few mins extra heads up though :stuck_out_tongue:

Hard luck for those who grinded. The game’s economy cannot sustain an unlimited amount of unlimited items, not with the current amount of players.

chatgpt is strong in this one.

I find it a little concerning YOU, of all people, didn’t see this coming..
The players who placed first in the competitive events STILL had the majority of the prizes..
They just had more selection and MORE prizes..
I DID see this coming, and have stayed away from tokens pretty much..
I am sorry for those people who have grinded and will now miss out.

There will be MANY brutal choices MA will have to make now (due to their f-ups) to get this game back on track. This is just ONE. The alternative? End of entropia.

Small steps to come back to life?
Nice we got a full detail plan.

As I understand, you still have 2 options :
1 - “In addition to this, we will also provide a final restock of some unlimited items”
2 - We will be allowed to sell our tokens during 4 weeks, and buy an UL weapons from others.

Seems an excellent way to end it. Gives everyone an oppertunity either way without screwing you over.

That completely depends on the size and type of that final re-stock.

It will be interesting to see what they mean with a final re-stock.

For these changes as an overall solution, I believe some people will be happy that the value of their items will get some protection - these people, however, need to realize that there will probably be people who will quit over a decision like this, shrinking the player-base further.

Apparently it won’t be ONE final restock, but several for different time zones, with pre-notification of dates and times of day.
After that, the NPC will have (L) stuff, and/or (L?)bps for crafted (L) stuff - amounts also unlikely to be high, though.

I think we need a further comment on the future availability of the low end consumables, so that there is some kind of minimum realistic value for the tokens in the month of trading. Or, once again, it becomes a gamble-fest (= risk-take-fest if people don’t like the word gamble…)

Not bad way to do it. It’s impossible to please everyone. But this leaves most people with something at least. Consider dropping ul items in events like migration. The c80 and c120 was a nice addition. Don’t stock vendor insanely with mod nanos now.
There is just too much ul items circulating the game. We honestly don’t need more at least from vendor.
Also if all items eventually will be L I don’t see a reason not to keep rare tokens and mayhem tokens tradeable, it is a real cash economy after all unless you’re planning to add UL items again to vendor.

The one thing is that people who farmed RM got a crazy advantage now. They could potentially take multiple items, you guys should impose limits here if possible.

Also can you guys make the mayhem tokens auctionable during that time. It will be hard to see the price of them otherwise
