The Debate Regarding High Level Tools and Attachements

Have you guys ever wondered at all the difference and advantage of using a high level tool vs the one you can buy from the terminal? Let’s take an MD-10 vs an MD-50 for example. Now, I know people can swear they know the difference between these tools and better yet have their theories about it; but do we really know ? Of course not.

I even know sucessful miners who don’t ever bother with using high levels mining/drilling tools, they simply just login, and buy the tools when they need to mine and sell right back after they are done.

The only difference that any n00b can actually tell for sure is the decay.

Some know facts : The MD/ME/MR series of tools decay alot less (about 2x) that of the OF/EF tools.

  • The SE/RS and A2 weapon attachments are more efficient than the A-J/ and E amp counter parts.

As for the lasers/scope, according to its desription, it’s suppose to add XX% to the users Aim. Now, We can all guess and say its modifies the Aim Skill right ? But, How does the XX% apply to the Aim Skill? I mean do we see that? Of course not. The community sure has doubts about how and even if it works or not. Some will swear they don’t make any difference but just decay and make your weapon look cool. Furthemore, others say that they help you gain experience faster and even some swear they help you do better damage.

As for the issues

Do we know actually know if it works ? Why doesn’t the system actually show the modified value of the Aim Skill ?

Now, I know crafters whine why and just why there is really no market for the tools and attachements they craft. The answer ? The majority of the participants have doubts about these items.

Can we really blame them for having such doubts? Nope. Now why do we have doubts about the workings and advantages of these items ? Is it because Mindark has left us in the dark ? Or does Mindark think that, we will just trust and have full faith in the system ? Or maybe, Mindark doesn’t want to let the public know that, there is really no difference; but the decay in them ?

Now don’t get me wrong, It is not that I doubt Mindark at all, the truth is I even use high level attachements (gargul/hanzor/a204) all the time, even though I own a set of non decaying SE600/RS1800. Now, If you ask me, why I would use the high lvl attachements vs the non decaying set ? Simply because I trust that they work, even though I don’t know how and if it even matters at my skill level.

But can you actually convince a n00b to buy high level attachements/tools ( tools that decay more ) simply because they are of a higher model ? What if they ask you the difference ? Can you tell them for sure ? Or do you give them theories ?

I have thought about this alot and I think its time Mindark takes action and shed light about this. We have wandered in the dark for too long and yet again we wait for another yet unfulfilled promise they make ( about giving us more information about the tools )

I am pretty much speaking on behalf of the crafters, I know how it is, I was a crafter once and it sucks when you have none or very low market markup for the items you make. I just think that these items will never ever see a serious market if the public has doubts about the cratfted tools and attachements.

I for one simply wants to know what the advantages are and would like to see something visual telling me that it is working. I am sure miners would really like to know how much and how their tools work too.

Don’t you think its time ? :wise:

To me it only makes sense that the uber attachments that do % mods work better for ubers then newbs. Take a scope with 10% skill mod. For a newb with 300 Aim it be like they had 330 Aim i would geuss. well that skill mod aint much of a difference. now someone with 5000 Aim it be like they had 5500 Aim thats better then a 470 lvl difference between the to. Although to me that doesn’t make enough of a difference even at 5k to pay the decay, a different scop with more skill mod mabey though.

But i think it’s hard to judge all this right now too becasue as we know next VU will effect mining and crafting. Marco has also said that tool stats are in the works also mabey this will also be included. Mabey the high end mining tools are a skill mod like a laser/scope. Mabey with Tool stats it will show the skills that get mod’d and what they equal with the attachment kind of like when you add an amp to a gun and look at the gun stats it shows the added dmg.

Personally i think newbs should use newb gear and ubers use uber gear to me that just makes sense. Everything in PE to me is about balance. I feel like there is a sort of comibnation lock to PE espesially in hunting. right skill with right weapon and the right mob=good skill gain and loot gain. At least thats what i’ve felt and found mabey i just got lucky but i always seem to find a sort of sweet spot that just worked for the skill range i was in. When i got more skills i moved on to a new area to match my combo.

i’ve probably but to many asleep by now so i’ll stop.

It simple what I say to noobs

Lasers look cool (unless they are non decaying or you have lots and lots of skill I say 9000 in aim it isn’t worht it)
Otherwise they are worthless

Scope is usefull to aim better at a mob at long distance, just get the one with less possible decay and once the mob is close change to a weapon with out it

Mining tools have diferent decays, but unless you want to be a full time miner it isn’t worth to pay the asking price of a MD-50 since it would require 2 million bombs to make a diference to the tt finder decay.
and if you want to be a medium miner it can’t hurt much to buy a OF-105 and see if you are more lucky with it than with the TT one.

It would be about time MA explained the effect of those atachements better. It’s been a long time since they promissed stats on mining tools and such , but so far nothing was added and they stoped refering to that.

I also think that mining tools work the same way as laser sights or amps do for hunting , I already posted about something I thought up

https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=872

But that’s just it , it’s a theory like Angel said, and it’s hard to prove it’s real effect. Even because I think that allthough they DO make a diference , it’s a small one. But then again , it’s like all the other skills, seeing that even for example , having 1k in rifle skills or 2k only makes you do an extra 1% in average damage with your gun or something like that (like it was tested somewhere , don’t remember the post).

I hope that the new skill system means that skills will count even more, and that means tools will have an even greater importance.

erm…craft items suck?

not rumours or theories, they suck

looted are always(99%) better decay and/or economy etc etc

Yes, Kalashi. I did not say that the Decay about them is a theory. We know that is the only difference we can tell for sure.

But what what we all need to know is what advantages are of using high level tools/attachments.

What makes them warant to have more decay is what we want to know.

Higher level amps like a204, depending on mob, are extremely usefull. I think this has already proven it self to those of us that use them.
As for scopes and lasers, would it be possible to test them with a M2201 and say, one round with 1000 ammo equiped and 1000 ammo without. And added up your dmg and misses on both hunts. I know this would be very time consuming but wouldn’t it show something?

The only focking problem is that when close to death, the mobs are running away. And… when a mob is running away, the damage is not “recorded”. So you can hit, but the damage won’t show up.

Thats why ya test it on AOA, he dont’ run away

Here here. Bring on the promised info MA. It’s been a long time coming.

Nice theory. :wise:
Well MA should give us the info we’re been expecting or they prolly want us to use high decay attach./laser/scops cuz this way they’ll have bigger revenues… or dunno… until the VU that will give the corect info… I stick to this… MA needs $ that we provide..
just think ~1k players = 2k lasers+1k scopes
even if the decay are small just think of it… dayli many ppl repair their stuff and that small decay from all the players is quite profit for MA just because they don’t show us the corect info

Just wait and be patient for a little more (until VU 7.6)

Great news. Thanks for posting -Archangel-!!

I seem to remember Marco also promising us more detailed skill info…

anyone else remember that too???

Yes. I remember that

Well..Marco promised stats on weapons also.I was hoping for rather accurate stats like 1.3reload and 1pec decay style info..instead we got the “Excellent, poor” system which aint really helping much unless its a new looted item..maybe

I dont expect much at all from MA when it comes to “stats”,I think they want us to stumble in the dark
