Society Wannabees

I Was on ths Society terminal and noticed a society called “Priory of Soin Cadets”. Now I am not aware of any affiliation with this society or any agreements with them in any way. in fact never even heard of them. If anyone has some information on this society there leader or any person that is a member please let me know. I wanna know basically why they have adapted our name for there use. We are in no way associated with them and do not want there name to effect our reputation in here. Thank you.

That really sucks… it seems like people are trying anything to damage peoples reputations nowadays. Scamming under well known players names, posing as cadets/friends/extensions of other societys they really have no part of. I can’t wait till these kind of people leave.

I just have to think it would be for bad intentions. We are really selective about our peeps and there personality is a big part of it. I know there isnt much I can do about it accept make people aware that someone is doing it. Just really like to know why.

Reminds me of a guy who was a part on “blondie inc” not the real “blondie inc.” and saw peeps who knew the difference pking him just for that fact he was trying to imposter as a member by making a soc name real close to the real society. Anyon eelse have this problem and what did you do about it?

I jus call it fakenick n bad style :S

Sounds realy anoying, I dont like people who do this type of thing. I would suggest that in you society page you right somewhere that you are no affiliated with this other society. You could get a messag to the leader ueing a “fake” aplication to the society.

Unfortunately, in PE there is no such thing as copyright protection or trademark infringement like there is IRL. The best thing you can do is spread the word that there is no affiliation, and continue to allow your actions to speak for themseleves. Pretty much like you’re doing here

I’ll make note of that and spread it to my soc.

thanks guys .. the suggestions are great never had to deal with that before i will do it as soon as i get in game… Guess I can say we are getting to be known. We have stalker societies lol

also it worries me that the REAL affiliated soc’s (like our own Delta Force Academy) will get a tarnished reputation by people thinking that they’re unauthorised.

I know Calypso Delta Force and Delta Force Academy are allied both ways, but there is no way for an “outsider” to see this…

Some time back there was a guy who gave away my name to someone, saying he knew me and the price on the item was set by me since I knew the game better then him. I was told about this since the one who was trading it happened to be a friend of mine..

I had never seen or spoken to that guy

Sadly, the only thing to be done at this point is to make it all public - and for us players to not automatically assume anything, either way, without firm confirmation from a member in good standing with the “parent” society.

Maybe this would be another wish-list item: A public “Affiliations” listing on the Soc terminal - with affiliations having to be initiated and accepted by soc leaders just like they do with the friends list now. That way, someone could check the soc terminal to see if two groups are affiliated.

you could have your soc set your attitude to the offending society as “unfriendly”.

that is as close as you can get to the affiliation for the time being.

that would be a cool feature though!

For only 10 peds worth of your cash, I will curse each member of that faker society, guaranteeing no hofs for at least a 2 month period.

Don’t you all think it might be in every1’s best interest if MA would start watching out for soc names more? If a name is too similar to one already taken, perhaps it ought not to be allowed?
Or, for those few societies that do have “cadet” soc’s, perhaps MA could at least contact the leader of the original society to see if it is ok that a second one be made? Or better yet, if a society wishes to be “cadet” perhaps MA could make them an actual off-shoot to the original soc, whereas the founder/leader of the first soc is also the founder/leader of the cadet force and therefore can begin the cadet new soc with a similar name.

I disagree. If the process were automated, there would be far too many appeals to MA because of legitimate reasons for similarities in naming, and if it were human-monitored, it would take too long to approve new names.

I agree… But

Might not be the best ide… A “nameowner” should be more aware and check things out. And if there is a rippoff in name… send in an supportchase.
Then MA can make an aproval or not.

Bit offtopic maby but when Redcell disbanded a new soc named, guess what.. Redcell was started by a pack of new ppl. Either they where noobs or they wanted to live on the old ubers rep.. sad either way I think.

All they(PoS cadets) have done is cause themselves grief…

They are K.O.S now also

OK, to further clarify. I am strictly talking about if a new society is exceptionally similar to one already in existence…
My soc is called The Jaded Crown. If some1 were to attempt to apply for a new society in which the two main words “Jaded” and “Crown” were used, the soc term should act as a sort of google system and automatically identify that that combination of words has been used… is this possible? I have no idea, but I would think it would be able to implemented readily enough.
No, I do not believe that just because a society sounds a little bit like another means that they should petition to MA to stop the new soc. Rather, I am strictly talking about when a society adds a single letter (or often times symbol) to an otherwise already-in-use soc name… that is just not right. :wise:

As far as filing a support against such a society, sure I would personally do this. But I doubt MA can do much about it once the society has been approved. Furthermore, by that time, most of the damage might have already been done.
