From the limited amount of time I’ve spent in PVP4 over the last week or so, it appears the effect of VTOLs and to a lesser extent Pitbulls have served to move the businesses of mining and PKing on still further.
Cars and now VTOLs are being used by both PKers and Miners. The poor miner who ventures in on foot or using a TP chip stands a greater chance of detection, looting and death. Miners who drive in are also more vulnerable to VTOLs, though they have there weaknesses - principally they can’t shoot back in mid flight.
Mining is also more of a hit and run affair. Cars made it quicker to get in, out or away from PKers. But VTOLs are well suited to the rugged terrain of PVP4, quickly accessing the high plateaus, crossing water and rising over mountain ranges. So a miner can hit several mineral hotspots in short order.
I have to say that I have done quite well over the last few days, by my own standards. I’ve lifted quite a bit of bloodmoss which has reflated my funds and I’ve also had the odd strike of Himi. Nothing mega, but I can’t complain…
I’ve been PKed once by KUKA (hope you enjoy the dung dude  ) and had several narrow escapes. That’s all part of the game. I’ve only rarely lost any loot in PVP4, mainly because I never hung around after getting a strike, but now I can store loot in my vehicles it means I can hang around longer. But I won’t get greedy.
Talking about KUKA, I got into a VTOL dogfight with him.
Both of us were in MK2 VTOLs so we were evenly matched. He could not shoot me in flight, but seemed determined to shadow me.
Steep dives, hard turns, high speed and various manouevres didn’t shake him, until I remembered an old Royal Air Force tactic used on VTOL Harrier aircraft in the Falklands conflict.
Its called ‘viffing’. Your enemy is hard on your tail so you switch your jet thrust from horizontal to vertical. This slows your aircraft and lifts it upwards meaning your enemy overshoots you. I did this at low altitude and poor old Kuka was right behind me and took the bait. He seized the opportunity to land and try to shoot at me whilst I opened the throttle and sped away.
Bye-bye KUKA :yay:
