PE names where do they come from

there have been quite alot of talk lately about this subject so i thought id dig out some old project i never got around to getting finnished and see what you have to say about it

again this is my truth and its work in progress so feel free to comment

most of the old names comes from either greek mythology or latin names for animals

argonauts was a band of greek mythology heroes that travleled as a big groups and killed stuff also thers something about some golden fleece or something

city names are allmost all greek towns or mythical locations

mollisk: is probably mole as its rodent and lisk as suffix on a monster name like hydralisk and bassilisk actually indicating its a lizard type

atrox: is a diamond back rattlesnake a very dangerous lizard

umbranoid: umbra is a word for darkness or the point where light stops and darkness begins and noid indicated its humanoid

hiryiu: as its actualy spelled is japanese for flying dragon

neconu: this one is hard but neco is a word for power and might theres a egytian faraoh called neco and a mayan god of was called nacon and the mob itself is very similar to a very early landwalking reptile from when the first animals adopted to dryland called therapsids

formiddon: best guess its formidable as its rather tought and don indicating its sorta dinosaur like another meaning could be formidable teacher or boss

atrax: this one is a bit wierd since a atra is a small salamander guess atrax just sounded cool

prancer: prance has 2 meaning it can mean to spring forward on the hind legs (the ones not near the head) or to walk proud (like a peacock)

chirpy: well the sound a bird makes is called chirping

ambullimax: only refference i found is that the gameworld of warhammer 40.000 used to have a monster called a ambull and this might be farstretched but ambull could be : am as in morning and bull as in a mad bull so maybe its a thing that gets angry when its woken

hogglo: the obvius answer here is its a hog = a pig but hog also so means someone who is greedy or its possibly hogg which is slang for a very big personal transporter like a motorcycle or truck

rippersnapper: a ripper is a person who murders with a sharp object/knife and snapper is a type of fish this is clearly a piranha

i did a bit of editing now tonight and im sure i forgot alot of mobs if u remember a mob i havnt mentioned yet then feel free to put it in reply ill try and see what i can come up with

also note that the older mobs seems to have names u can decipher where some of the newer cant

if you go onto land areas and look at different dnas you can see mobs full names. Like Atrax is actually Atraxenosaur I think(same for atroxenosaur). Anyone feel like running around and collecting this info?

Lol

LOL.. not only the TT that operate with more “decimals” than whats normally shown?

Id say one thing though.. if mobs have like “Name”, “Shortname” and “Full name” fileds in the DB.. goddamn its no wonder things get laggy, hahaha

It would only get laggy if a lot of ppl were looking up the same bits of information in a query. Other than that the DB would run silently in the back. But seriously, I have on at least one occasion noticed a game name similar to a Rl name. If you are a gun enthusiast you will notice the similarity to a popular blp rifle and a real life counterpart.

Meckel & Loch:

Meet Heckler & Koch:

The HK pic is of an assault rifle called the PSG!! Eerie isn’t it.

Heckler & Koch

Now this is Mechel & Loch ML-35 for you..

Now thats called a Heckler & Koch G-3A3.. Its kinda similar to the ML-35 wouldnt you say :o
Great weapon btw… ill shoot the head off an umbranoid at 400 meters without a scope with it.. As opposed to the ML-35 :stuck_out_tongue:
The G3 fires 8-10 RPS of 7,62x51mm ammunition, which is pretty badass.

EDIT: Sorry bout the kinda offtopic, but its a name in PE and RL that is similar, and the “skins” most definetly are too :stuck_out_tongue:

just find another worthy reciever of rep and then rep me

honestly theres more than a few deserving people with supprisingly little rep

such as me!

anyways, the guns i can eaaasily identify. Apart from the made up ones

Starkhov = Kalashnikov (AK47, AK74 against AS97, AS117, etc)

Oh, and they may not look similar now, but anyone old enough to remember the texture update (wasnt that long ago was it?) will remember they were damn identical.

Ditto with the EP- series and the Desert Eagle - they looked damn similar.

A3, Sollomate, are all made up.

Suprisingly, ditto with the Camo-Arms series.

VAT- and Tegretov series are just made up copies of the Starkhov..

mainly, pistols are made up aswell..

mob names

my researchs found:

ambulimax: ambulance was inspired by “help it got me!medic!medic!” and max from MAD MAX movie

caudatergus: those mobs may be dangerous if they attack a newbie but you easily can treat them when you come from their back…a tergo like.

allophyl: the greek suffix “phil” stands for addicted, allo is coded language for “alco”. to sum it up, they are drunkards

estophyl: ester is the german word for a molecule out the alcohol family…see allophyl

longu: did u notice their nose?

Incedantally i was at one time making a list over ingame weapon maufacturers and their real life namesakes if any, though i cant say i found to many…

To add some more info up,

All Corn series of mobs (Cornundo, Cornundacauda,…) have their name coming from that strange fang/horn like appendix cming out at the middle of their faces.
Both their heads are pretty similar, maybe showing some kind genetic relationship.
Corn… is related to Horn in latin, so, in Spanish “Horns” are “Cuernos”, and “Cornudos” are “Horned” (noticed the similarities between ingame Cornundos, and Cornudos in Spanish? btw, the word is also used as a way of insulting, related to one’s couple’s fidelity :P). In Cornundacaudas, the “cauda” part of the name might be related to “caudal”. Notice that kind of fin on the tail at the back of the animal?, that’s the “caudal” area for fishes.

Haven’t seen those Formiwhatevers yet, but just to add…, do they look like insects at all? “Formi-” can be derived from “Ant”, coming from latin aswell :).

Can’t think of any other names I could help you with, I’m just a noob and been only playing for 3-4 days so far. Interesting topic though, hope this helps out.

Yes they do

I was also looking a little further into the correlation between ingame and RL weapons manufacturers, there are quite a few to look through though. Also some of the pics of weapons on EP forums are hard to see the weapon or are so dark you can’t see anything at all. I would like to see a relationship between a couple of my favorite pistol manufacturers; Glock and Smith & Wesson.

Hiryu = “Big Dragon” or something like that in japanese.

Lila lamp : Lila = purple in swedish
Gulo lamp : Gul = yellow in swedish.

Reddo = Red / do

corns

As to the "corn"s the most famous of them all i guess is the unicorn..
The onehorned horse

cornundacauda

ok heres a funny one

cornundacauda =

corn = corn (you know that yellow stuff that grows on the fields and can be made into popcorn :silly2: )
und = and (at germany)
a = a (one thing as “an apple” - “a banana”)
cauda = head (at latin cauda means head)

corn and a head

isnt that what they look like too?

To add to previous post:

Allophyl: Specie of mosquito responsible for malaria, the ones in game do not buzz or sting, but if Dali had decided distorting an oniric mosquito…

Faucervix: “Fauce-”, spanish and latin for “Jaw”, together with “(ce)-rvix” (I’d say it’s greek, but not pretty sure) which means “neck”, and this creatures have a pretty long one…, the neck sickboys. That would make them somwthing like “Necks with jaws”, not bad at all.

Equus: That’s pretty obvious, scientific and latin word for horse is “equs”

great stuff ho´mungoose

Not sure exactly where the name is in game, but I believe it is with the apartment. But somewhere in the game something shares the name Sakura. This word is the Japanese word for ornamental cherry trees and their blossoms.
