I have lowered the connection speed to 56k, (I have a solid cable connection) I have tested my network connection and have no errors, I have reloaded my NIC drivers. Still no joy. :censored:
This game looks like it could be fun and a good replacement for SWG but if I can’t stay connected then what’s the point. I may as well stay with SWG and all of it’s garbage? :banghead:
Maybe it’s just some traffic problem on your route to Sweden ? or your connection is not too healthy ? or MindArkAB just testing something new and server load is bigger than always… you must remember than in few days they will add new VU.
I feel your pain. I have a pretty decent cable modem connection and still get kicked two or three times in a session. I have no idea why really, but it does happen. I try not to let it get in the way of my enjoyment of the game. I deal with it and move on. So far it hasn’t disconnected in a particularly critical situation, thank Lootius. You may want to put in a support case to MA or search around in the threads of this forum as I think other people have been having similar issues. It may also be due to the volume of people trying to connect at the same time. I notice that when there’s a particularly large amount of people on, I have more trouble staying connected. Also keeping away from some of the high traffic areas like Port Atlantis seems to help. Just personal observations of mine. hugs Hope things work better for you.
I had SO much problems before, I play lots of games online, and PE was the only one giving me grief. I updated the firmware of my Linksys router and… I now have session lasting hours, really I never drop once in complete night of playing.
So check your router’s firmware. Check your cablemodem /adsl modem’s firmware. Check your firewall. I have even heard of version of Norton AV interfering with the clientloader, try disabling or unloading that. Try unloading every unnecessary service or program and determine which once is causing the problem. I hate to agree with MA, but in this case they were right in saying the problem had to be on my end.
rep Prodiq for the firewall suggestion. I ran into a little issue with one of my old firewalls doing this to me on another game. Some Basic things that have helped me run PE better is turning of the wind effects (ingame hit “O” uncheck wind effects box hit “Done”) I also noticed when I went to 1G Ram the game ran smoother which lead to less crashing. I close all my background apps except for my Virus software (you might try disabling that to see if it helps) Also I would recommend running software to remove spyware which can upset internet connections and slow your computer down. Sometimes it just boils down to the ISP one of my socmates has tons of trouble with Telkom which consistently disconnects him. I used to have the same issues with AOL disconnecting me (before my PE days) thats why I switched to a better less expensive service (as avery says “FU Telkom” I say “FU AOL” lol)
Make sure all your drivers are up to date and work with PE. I am not sure if a support case would help but I would try one with as much information as you can give them about your problem if its PE based they can direct you to the right solution. Otherwise Good luck with your problem I hope it gets worked out.
Obtaining a stable connection seems like a common problem with many new players. We should probably ask MindBuster to create a sticky with a listing of actions that worked for others.
Now I’m just a NOOB…and defiantly not a compsci type, but I can tell you what finally worked for me. I had the “Red Screen, Lost Connection” problem consistently after a minuet or two of logging in.
Computer configuration was fine,
Tried the low connection speed in client loader options = no joy
Reloaded the program = no joy
Disabled all anti-virus = no joy
Disabled sound in options = no joy
Lowered various graphics settings in options = no joy
Tried the DMZ option on my Linksys firewall/router = no joy
If you have a real firewall search the forum for “Connection Lost” and “Open Ports” and you will find settings for several ports that need to be open. (didn’t apply in my case)
I found a forum thread from someone that suggested doing a pathping to www.project-entropia.com (this domain is not the game servers, but geographically close) with –f (do not fragment switch set) and –l (packet size) 1472. Bingo! It revealed a mid-route problem. Some router half way through couldn’t deal with that packet size. The next step suggested was pinging the domain and reducing the data size by 10 each successive time until a consistent response was received. In my case the largest data size that would go through consistently without fragmentation was 992. Other threads I have read suggest then increasing this number by 20 to account for IP headers, and others suggest rounding down to a whole number divisible by 8. This then becomes the “MTU” value that you want to set in your firewall/router. My Linksys didn’t have this option as it was an older unit, so I needed to update the firmware. The new firmware allowed many new settings, among which was the MTU (maximum transmission unit) size. I changed this to the lower value and have not had the “Lost Connection” problem again.
So I : “pathping www.project-entropia.com –f –l 1472” then looked for a node that did not respond. If found:
Then: “ping www.project-entropia.com –l 1462” decreasing the 1462 by 10 each time no response was received until a consistent reply is received.
Then: change MTU setting in your firewall/router.
It seems that once you get whatever the problem is solved the game will be reasonably stable.
I have had more problems regarding crashes since the latest VU, now more so then other, and none of the settings every seem to make the blind bit of difference.
One thing to ask is wether PE is crashing through an error or losing connection, I tend to get both lol so can’t really offer much help here Im afraid but your not the only one
However MA has increased its graphics department two fold and plan to update there graphic options ingame.
They are looking likey to heavily develop PE over the next year and heres hoping that the stability of the connection will also improve
One thing I would reccomend is running at minimal processes, by also ending explorer and then alt + tab back to PE one other option you might try which is great for games is GameOS it loads up only basic requiments and allthough I can get it to work for me with PE it speeds up any other games you play by a noticble factor
Do a supportcase, explain your problem, ask for domain to server (no, not same as
website, but yes, you will probably get it ) then run cmd.exe and tracert.
(type “tracert www.project-entropia.com” to see the route to webserver.)
This way you will see if there is something that makes your connection slower
on the way to server.
I use to do this now and then against gameserver, just to see if I have some
problems on my way to the server…
