Noob events

I was over in Phoenix today, skilling some evade. Did an inventory-check, and found a couple of fap-5’s I have no need for. So I ran of, and found a good spot to hide it. Back in Phoenix I annoounced it, and the noobs where of. 2 minutes later a noob came running back with it. It was fun to see them be so happy for something I have not so much use for.

So this is my words to you all, if you have something you don’t have need for, don’t tt it if it’s only a couple of peds. Do like gnasher did, and hide it somewhere, and send the noobs on a treasure hunt. 2 peds may not be much for some of us, but for a sweating newcommer it can be what decides them to stay or quit the game.

Great idea! It’s nice to see someone helping noobs instead of just bitching about them. Keep up the good work.

I do that alot, when I can afford it  Always fun giving, specially if they dont ask for it

I don’t talk about my ‘charities’, but one thing that I used to do with a friend was go to PA on a Friday night and have “NEWB TRIVIA”… we would ask any of them difficult questions (PE and not PE related) and pay out a ped or two to each right answer

Haha Svetlana I remember Gnash did that alot  we had this spot we liked to go to to hide stuff, and he held noob trivia there sometimes. Spot was the diripi-sweat farm. Go out to those noobs who acctually work not just beg

I remember he asked “whats the name of the king of norway?” and a Swedish girl answered “Oslo”.

Ahahaaha, all us swedes know the answer is Trondheim

I will never donate to events for n00b events again.I donated 250peds to Find Wally2 almost 1 year ago and it seems like OgiMini ran away with the cash

Argh  Isnt that just typical?
I would still donate as long as I know the person holding the event, or if its a well trusted event-maker (like singular)

Was not meant to brag or anything, just to get peoples attention to the issue. I think as long as MA don’t hold many events (and I don’t think they should often either, they should develope  ) we players need to do it. I’m bored out of my mind these days. Broke in-game, so I try to have as much fun as possible with the possibilities provided by MA.

I like the way you think, Keep it up!

*Sorry for the long post but this inspired me, insert blah blah blah and move on if your not interested.

It was the generosity of some players that got me hooked when I didn’t even know what keys to press on the keyboard to even walk right. lol You know, when you walk right into people because you don’t even know how to navigate with the keyboard yet … lol.

Somebody gave me some Pixie armor and I ctd’d before I could thank him/her, (darn trade bug! ) but I thank them in my mind every time I see it. My mentor gave me a broken Axe, I like to think it was the one I used when I got my HOF!

Pay attention nOObs, I ALWAYS tried to be polite. I ALWAYS used Please, Thank You, Can I, May I, Excuse me, Pardon me, etc… to ask questions and learn.

You would be amazed how far a little politeness goes when everyone else is begging and spamming. Of course I knew my parents, and they raised me right. I NEVER BEGGED! Nor did I ever ask for anything for free from superior players other than information on how I could do for myself, what they had done for themselves.

I think that’s where I learned the word “Deposit”

I have had nOObs beg, and I have given them the opportunity to show me what their made of. If they prove to me that they have some concepts of a work ethic, personal responsibility, and gratitude, I will give something to help them. If not, I will send them on their way with some self improvement tips.

I have had a few come back to me and say, “Hey Mac, remember that you gave me to get started, I passed it on to another nOOb! Thanks Mac!” That was payment enough for me.

Here’s my nOOb theory: I break them down into three categories:

C1 nOOb: Wants to learn, excited about the game, learns fast, someone you wouldn’t mind making friends with, doesn’t beg for anything. Asks intelligent questions. Wants to know how to do it for themselves.

Cat2 nOOb: Interested in game, can be taught what to do given enough time and explanation, maybe begged first but soon understood the error in their ways and never begged again.

Cat3 nOOb: Only interested in how to become a gazzillionaire playing PE, uses all caps to spam their begging from town to town, screams obscenities when doesn’t get any peds from anyone. Does not work or deposit. Wants to “borrow” everything and never return it, or return it broken. Begging to get on your team to hunt. Begging for ped, begging for armor, begging for weapons, etc. Did I mention begging?!?! I also put the scammers into this category, you know the guys that play up female avy’s to flirt and ask/beg for things.

Here’s how I approach them:

C1 nOOb: Is a self starter. This nOOb will only need direction provided, maybe they will only need just one useful item to help them get started. You enjoy them, they enjoy you, its all good. Fun Fun Fun! they will learn and play and become productive members of Calypso.

C2 nOOb: Needs a little more work, but can be turned into a C1 nOOb given enough time and effort.

C3 nOOB: Needs to leave PE asap. Hopefully they will dry up and blow away never to relog again. I send these away with no help, no direction. I have no respect for them. I will take screenys and submit abuse cases to get them banned at my first opportunity and enjoy their early demise.

I know , I know, your saying gee Mac, your still a nOOB! what do you know… well, its my approach, let me know what you think. If your not asleep now that is.

/me thinks this is what happens when your bored at work…

Cheers all, GL & Have Fun!

Heh, I spent a week going around offering 5 PED to anyone who could properly answer “Who is John Galt?”

Not long after I stopped, I met the CEO of “The Galt Group”

Working on it now!

I will be sponsoring races starting this weekend. The first few will be noob races for prizes like Jester D1’s & ammo and the like.

Given that I am not in the charity business, these will be “for-profit” events, but they will be held openly and honestly. Basically, there will be an entry fee charged, and specific rules applied. The winner of the event walks away with the prize. (And before anyone mentions gambling - competitions like this are not gambling. A lottery with a random drawing for the prize is gambling). Entry fees will depend on the prize, but for the noob races will typically be 20-40 pec or 10-20 sweat

Profits will, at first, be reinvested into more events (and paying for more prizes, of course!), and eventually will go into paying help to assist with the coordination of larger events. I hope to eventually be able to sponsor some REALLY large races, with uber-payoffs some day.

Anyways - I’ll be starting with the noob races this weekend at PA. I’ll post more details later in the week.

I have been rather successful at event planning IRL - I’m hoping I might be able to make it work in-game, too. I guess we’ll find out!

I completely agree. It’s a shame problem plan “events” and end up running away with the money. To make matters worse, sometimes these scammers manage to slip through support and never recieve a proper punishment. Events have become rather hard to host in PE now, but I hope to see those new event tools that MindArk has promised!
