Hey guys! After reading a lot of threads on this forum I’ve become interested in this game because.. well.. it sounds interesting.
I still have 1 Hour 10 Minutes to download still though. (JEEZ)
Anyway, I did a search to find a similar thread to answer my questions but didn’t find anything (I apologize if I just didn’t see it or something =/ It happens sometimes)
I am not exactly endowed with a lot of money right now. I can come up with like 5-10 dollars to invest if I like the game (play it for a couple of days or make some friends)
I was curious about how expensive the game will be now and in the future? If I struggle a lot just because I’m not throwing tons of money into the game I will regret playing and quit x.x;;.
Also I was wondering if anyone would like to be my mentor? I just need help on the basics and someone to talk to and hang with as a newbie.
I can’t exactly figure out why I am excited about trying this game out.. I don’t expect to make a profit going into the game.. ~ I’m just here for the fun and friends.
Well, first off, you’re going into it with the right attitude. If you expect to make a profit, you’ll be highly disappointed.
Putting in 10 bucks right off will get you a long way. And finding a mentor will help with that as well. You also did a great thing by asking here, as the people on this board can be trusted and will tell it like it is.
I would mentor you, but a poor mentor is not a good mentor. I only take disciples on near the end of each month, when i have ped and can afford to be helpful. But I know at least one of the awesome people here will mentor you, that way you don’t get stuck with a bad mentor…or someone who won’t help you.
This sounds like avoiding the question, but I’m not trying to. PE is exactly as expensive as you make it. Once you get it downloaded, don’t start buying stuff right off. Take your time and make good investments.
First bit of advice I can give you, since you’ll have PED is…DO NOT, I repeat, DON"T buy armor or a weapon from the trade terminal.
Get a mentor and let them help you pick out your armor and weapon of choice. Also, don’t just wake up from the game and buy the first armor someone offers you. Get a mentor, or look around for someone from EF and be sure you get a good deal.
New players have a small disadvantage waking up in Port Atlantis…lots of fast talking and trading going on there and no one wants you to get talked into buying something you don’t need right now.
Welcome to EF & PE. It’s great seeing people get interested in the game because of EF. I hope to see you ingame and I look forward to seeing you opinion on PE.

I am still a little curious on how much it will cost later on though. Everyone says $10 helps right off the bat. I understand that, but later on to progress normally will I end up throwing $20 - $30 or even $40 into the game? I’m under the impression that without the inital $10 investment, it is quite hard to progress as a beginner.
I hope to see some of you in game also, this forum is really at least half the reason i’m interested. All your discussions got me interested and a lot of you seem pretty cool.
I put in 50-60 USD a month…a little more than that lately because I’ve been upgrading armor and I bought an apartment.
Once I get the helmet i want, I’ll be able to survive pretty well on my 500 ped per month. Of course, that’s only if I hunt economically and I don’t waste ped going out and doing stuff that I can’t really do yet.
I have one friend ingame who puts in about 200USD a month and it’s gone in 2 weeks, then he goes back to sweating or collecting oil. I’m not sure how he does that, seeing that he has cheap armor and uses only Axe 1x0, but he does it lol.
The biggest mistake I made when i first started playing, was I went out and bought a whole bunch of stuff I couldn’t use properly yet. Unfortunately, EF wasn’t around yet, and I didn’t know then what I know now. Ask advice of more experienced players. Most importantly, SKILL. Without skill you won’t be able to enjoy any amount you put into the game.

This game is something like no other. The graphics arent the best and there isnt tons of action. But there is something that is like no other. Usually go through about 10 games a month. But since i started playing this one i have put all other games aside.
Alot of it is the real cash economy. Alot of it is the people you meet. Dont get discouraged in the beginning and leave. I did that only to come back and kick myself thinking of where i could have been if i stuck it out.

is a thread i started wondering how much people spent. As you will see when you read over it, some people spend thousands and some people make thousands.
Get a good mentor in the game that can help you out and show you the ropes. Dont take people wearing the orange jumpsuits as perfect advice. I know a lot will say that noobs are people too. But think of yourself as being dumped on the mean streets of NYC or LA. Most of the people in the orange (noob) suits are just trying to hustle a ped or two.
Take advice from the people who will give it FOR FREE. And if you see me in game throw a hi my way. I will help you all i can!

If you have a good attitude in the game, youll make alot of friends. And good friends can get you far!
As for depositing, 10$ is a nice start, can get you a cheap armor, some axes… Gotta say 10$ is the minimum you can deposit tho.
It all depends on how you USE the money. Listen to experienced people on what gear you should get and what mobs that fit you, where good spots are and so on.
Finding a good mentor is crucial, and Im ingame alot but Im poor aswell
You should maybe try to find Hally or someone in the “Elite of Noobs” soc to find Hally for you, I hear he’s a great mentor. Else you can find manic and ask him kindly, he have a society “manic’s maniac’s” for his diciples and the few I met of them seem very nice. Both manic and Hally are great guys. I recommend these people warmly!
And another thing, until you find a mentor… DO NOT gain any skills! Then the mentor wont be able to add you as a diciple.

All of the money people are spending scares me, but depending on how much fun I’m having I would do it too really. I find it far from insane to put that money into the game, but I also know I am in a situation where I shouldn’t spend much right now.

PE is a great game and it is not all about spending money you can have lots of fun whitout money to (but money sure helps)

In fact, Jester D-1 and Pixie is great whatever skill you got. Same with Mann MPH, FAP-5 and ES100. I got all of them (changed ES100 with ES500 a while ago) for use in skilling and I got more then 132k in total skills.
A newbie outfit should be following:
2 mann mph (pistols) (TT+0.20 ped each)
1 Jester D-1 (carbine) (TT+0.20 ped)
Full set of Pixie (armor) (TT+?? ped. Not much, but not sure about prices atm)
FAP-5 (Fast Aid Pack, medic) (TT=15 ped)
ES100 (Scanner) (TT=12 ped)
A101 (Ampfiler) (TT+1-2 ped)
Alekz scope (TT+1-2 ped)
Loads of ammo (light and medium cells) (TT=0.01 ped pr. cell)
Attach 1 mann mph with a101 and the Jester D-1 with alekz scope.
Use mostly the mann mph without amp to get skills up in the start. Go into close combat to get your defence skills up. Use frequently your FAP-5. Don’t invest in a better FAP before you can manage to heal max with it. Allways have your armor full repaired.
Change between weapons if you are bored. Jester D-1 with scope is cool for starters because of some more range then pistols and you can zoom into targets. Also you can damage them more so it is easier to kill with the handgun without using to much FAP- and armor decay.
First goal is to get skills up. When you get around 1k and above in some skills, you can think about what you wanna do in PE.
(Rifle, Pistol, Melee, etc if you wanna hunt. BLP vs LWT, you should wait another 1K in skills before you decide)
Aproximate cost for this is 20-30 USD, but you can play for many many hours.
Deposit 10 USD in the start and activate your CC. Then deposit more if you think that game is fun and worth it. I personally think it is worth it and I spend money on this game because it is a hobby. Same as others spend USD on hobbies like motorcross, bowling, dart, football, etc.

Be sure to do more than JUST skill though…getting to 1k in any skill takes a good while…about 2-3 months maybe more…unless you spend LOTS of time ingame. I barel have 2k skills in my main weapon of choice (melee, shortblades), but I’ve upgraded many times since I got about 500 in those.
Skilling is important, just be sure you have fun with it.
Hving fun is the most important thing, and interacting with people. Explore the continents and learn where stuff is. Join a soc even.
Kjetil is right, but I just don’t want you to interpret that as saying, “skill, only skill, and only use those weapons and that armor until you get 1k in something.” His theory is right though, it’s a good cheap way to skill.
I would personally add an axe to that list. It is after all the most economical weapon in the game. Try out guns and melee, see which you like, and then skill in that area.
Hey all, another ‘newbie’ here. I’m still waiting for the updating to finish downloading.. right now it’s at about an hour and seventeen minutes. I’m more than eager to get started with this game. Having read through some of the threads and the About section of the site, this game has only become increasingly interesting. One thing I’ve noticed is the talk of ‘investing’. Now, normally I don’t play ‘pay games’, mainly because I’m poor at the moment and currently in the middle of a jobhunt.. I was just wondering if it would be horribly hard for someone to ‘get somewhere’ in the game if they perhaps didn’t invest right away. Either way, I’m looking forward to joining most, if not all of you in the game. And on another note, I’m going to need a mentor, if anyone is interested. ^.^ And I could always use more friends.

Yes, you can gather sweat, fruit, animal Dung, or try to survive at the oil rig and get oil. It’s long hard work, but it’s a living.
I would advise joining a soc that accepts new players who aren’t depositing, and finding a mentor. Both of these things will help get you started. Just please don’t beg or expect something for nothing.
If you are willing to work and earn stuff, you will go far also.
If you ever catch me ingame, I can give you some stuff to do for me and pay you for it…not right this minute of course, cause I’m poor right now, but there are others like me, who will give you something to do.
Avoid buying clothes, they are a waste of money. The only purose they serve is for your image, which is something you can worry about later.
Be careful of scammers, don’t loan things to people you don’t know. If in doubt ask others first.
Decide which profession most appeals to you - people have assumed you want to be hunters, but honestly hunting is the biggest loss machine in the game along with tailoring.
Mining can give you some profit from day 1 with equipment you can get from a trade terminal.
Be sure to check the current price of ores and en matters as some are more valuable than others.
You could also try crafting.
Books and some blueprints are available in some places. Don’t try to make high end items to start with, stick with a lvl 1 bp that is very cheap to use - like settler shins for armor making.
The main thing though is to enjoy what you are doing and meet some nice people, and then I’ll meet you in years time in the poor house :wise:
Ahaha, yay. Thanks for the advice. XD Hopefully I’ll meet you both in the game sometime. And of course, I’m not expecting free handouts or ‘stuff’. I’d much rather earn things on my own. (Or mostly on my own. XD)

Get in game!
Dont let anyone else tell you how to enjoy or what to do!
Go exploring, find all the TPs so you can travel around more easily.
Chat people, be nice and friendly, and you can often find things to do to keep you occupied.
Try your luck at the rig, sweat a bit, even pick up some mob poop! :tongue2:
If after all this and you understand the fundamentals and want to kill some stuff then i would advise full on go for Melee! chop chop!
Get yourself a Axe 1x0 and chop your way to glory!
2 people i know deposited only 20us$ 6months back and now have kit worth 4k+ped due to amazing loot, hofs and generally clever hunting using ONLY axes!
Its great fun, socialising and exploration in a VIRTUAL UNIVERSE!

You are right that you need to have fun. Therefore I also posted more weapons then only mann mph in the start. (like the jester with scope and amp another mann mph. You could even amp the Jester D-1)
Reason that I didn’t mention the axe in the start, is that it has some more decay and it is hard to start out with if you don’t have any defence skill. I know it is a very economical weapon, but it is even more economical if you got some defence skills and don’t need to decay your armor/FAP so much.

okay, bearing in mind you are giving advice to new players who want to keep cost as low as possible;
Information about mobs - see the mob damage list on this site for free - its all the info you really need.
Information about other players - necessary???
Information about weapons - there is more detailed information of various websites that give more info than a scanner does.
Nice Skills - Are these skills good for anything? Have they been implemented into the gameplay yet?
