It has been there for a while, but nowadays it’s becoming more and more popular. It’s not a direct scam against other players, but it’s a scam against MindArk.
It’s called self discipling. It’s when a player creates an avatar just to mentor it, and get the mentor item. And from what I’ve experienced, it happens a lot. And it’s easy, especially with the new skillingsystem. A disciple can now reach greduation in under a day, for almost no peds. I heard someone say they graduated with under 30 axes. In my eyes that’s kinda extreme. And with axes at aprox 7 peds each, that’s 210 peds a day for a mentor item! and if you are bored, that can be 7 mentor items a week. As most mentor items have a very good marketvalue, it’s actually profitable to do this. For a while.
What people don’t understand, is that this form of exploitation of the mentoring-system harms us all in the long run. ME-items will fall in value, and I guess the system will disapear in the near future. So you see, people scam themselves. This post is intended to show people that this is, in my eyes at least, very wrong. So please, go mentor the real way, go to PA or CP and get a disciple that actually wants to do this. It’s not meant to be that easy.
This has been going on from when mentoring first started. I personally know people who have mentored, well lets just say, a lot of avatars just to get the mentor items.
I dont speak from experience but on the whole, it just aint worth the ped burn. You say it costs as little as 210 ped to gain mentor item. Thats money in MA pockets. The item then goes in the auction for above TT, someone has uploaded that cash, money in MA’s pockets.
Occasionally the items gained in mentoring are great but on the whole they are pretty basic.
If you tried to cash out after selling a ton of Mentor Items, MA would simply trace your activity and tell you to…
first, its not like MA doesnt know the ip address of EVERY SINGLE person who logs in… if this shit goes too far, theyll just lock you down…

i started to do the math, thinking it wouldnt be such a huge profit (wth 30 axes and 1 day) but it is… about 50% of that 210 peds is profit.
are you sure the new vu is allowing this? every disciple of mine told me the skilling was HARDER, and one offered some stats to prove it…4 lb in 1 axe, one HML, twice in a row, the second time she got 2 HML…
(note please i do NOT encourage my disciples to lb skill!!! im not in mentoring for the money, as noted by the fact that im BROKE as fuck… she just likes the idea of being a fencer ingame, as she is in rl.)

and do you have any numbers? are you just going off the propaganda of others, or did you test this theory yourself? if you DID, mind posting a few numbers? and if you DIDNT, please go somewhere ELSE to place nonconstructive responses.

and would somebody PLEASE stick in some numbers other than that? rifle, engineering, ive seen fa skill levels in posts already, what about surveying, etc…
Not sure about the scam, but I could very well see that happening as Skill Gaing in LB & Rifle are now so easy its unbelievable, I went from LB 733 to 954Lb in 3hrs on the day of the VU release, Dolph can back this up as I actually graduated from his mentorship at the time.
Other evidence:- ShortBlades, Bought a Cleric Dagger last night and went from 0 SB to 27 SB in about 10 minutes.
As post above has stated, MA lose nothing but gain Decay on 30x Axes. So yes its a big scam but one I cant see MA changing as it doesnt really benefit them to.

Wont take more than a couple of days to get a disciple to graduate with this new system..
Well I confess i’ve been a disciple more than once. I’ve actually offered my services to a couple of people. They provide the skilling avatar with the peds and we split 50-50 the hofs and good items (like GSI, and low tt nemesis , etc). At the end, if the mentor item is worth it, we sell it on auction, if not i get to keep it for my personnal use on my main avatar.
I find that this is a way to gain some money if you don’t deposit and at the same time, you really play for free, since it’s your partner that is sponcering you.
As for myself, I do have another avatar that I lend to my bro when we play together, but he mostly doesn’t appear unless I really need something of him. As for mentoring I’ve never selfdiscipled for myself, since i don’t deposit, i don’t have 210 peds to burn on a 0 tt item and take a chance that it’s worth it. So I take in disciples the old way, by addicting my friends and family to the game (hehe not always the best idea) and by recruiting in PA. I have one disciple who finished his discipleship and 2 i had to drop because they left the game.

Even if it was an anonymous poll, I dont think you would get honest answers from players. There are some players that probably have 10 - 15 different avatars.
You should still create a poll, just for fun to see what kind of responses you get I would be interested to see the results as well.
yea i know what your saying but it does not Screw over MA actualy the only people it screws over are the ones that have bought the ME items for high prices.
Mentor Edition Items come with 0.00 TT value so it’s not like you can use 30 axes get a high tt item and break even by tt’ing the thing. You have to sell it to another avatar. and if there are a lot of them out there it will decrease the prices on ME items.
speaking of which anyone get a ME item that is new yet? mabey the new ME items have a factor into this also.

like it has been already said… MindArk can only gain from this as it means people are dumping more cash into game only to receive a 0.0tt item.

Its gonna happen. If you read the news posting about the skill experience they state plainly in there they are going to revise the mentor levels. So get your disciples moving now. Cause by the next update/mini it’ll be changed.

I didn’t have time to put numbers, but I don’t like the tone… especially that Im going on the propoganda of others. I went from 419 LB to 800 in about 5 hours of skilling. It took me about two weeks worth of skilling to get to 419.

Actually.. the worst way to stop people from doing is by making a post about it. Now people who originally did not know or thought about this will surely begin this.
As many have said, MA does not lose, the more high end items in the market, the better it is for MA because large sums of peds is needed in the transaction therefore more deposits.
It is not an exploitation because this is done ever since the creation of the system…
A drop in ME item prices.. is that really a bad thing? I thought lots of people were complaining about how high ME prices were at, now if more of them were funded into the market.. is not that a beneficial thing?
I don’t know about you, but I have more than one avatar myself, as a matter of fact.. I’ve been told by many people when I first started to have 2+ avatars so that… well, the information is not necessary.
In all, MA does have its staff play this game, and I’m sure they are aware of the ability to self diciple and I don’t see how that will harm them, so I doubt this will be changed in any way.
I would be interested to see the results as well.
