New Australian player; unable to connect or stay logged in

Hello.

I am from the East Coast of Australia on a 256k connection and have downloaded all the patches up to what is current. I’ve made an exception in my firewall to allow the program to work without making specific ports available.

My issues are that I either can’t log in whatsoever (it just gives me a message that the connection was lost) or that I get logged in but can’t maintain a connection for more than about five minutes. Any help would be useful here as I would like to experience the game in more than fits and starts.

Download pingplotter and trace your connection to rp.entropiauniverse.com
See if you have any packet loss, and if so where it is.

I had a look at this program but don’t really understand the results, I’m afraid to say. The last result had the provider unreachable…here’s an image.

Arg! For some reason, the posting method here doesn’t allow me to post a !!! link properly. Sorry I can’t be of more help. I’ll try and read up on this program some more.

Be sure to walk through the login and connection help pages on the EU website too, it might help you out:
https://account.entropiauniverse.com/support-faq/technical-issues-1/start-login-connection-fa/

Also, in case you haven’t, adjust your connection speed in the client loader under options.

Post your picture in the gallery here and link to it. the forum ownder does not allow posting from exernal picture sites because he does not want pictures to be lost from threads. There is no limit to the number of pictures you can put on the gallery here.

Good luck.

Hi Solas,

Gold Coast here

You should be able to connect to EU, and even play (to some limited extent) on a 256k connection, but its not ideal. I assume thats your download speed, your upload speed is probably even lower.

You might want to check you’re actually getting that whole 256k too - www.speedtest.net will check that for you (pick a server over in Europe, not the local Brisbane one).

Any chance of upgrading to a faster plan thru your ISP, or maybe a different ISP ? To check what broadband plans are available for your location, check www.whirlpool.net.au.

All the best,
Serica

I need faster than 256k to play, then? curious I’ve never really needed superfast download speeds, and my ISP was meant
to upgrade me to ADSL2+ last year…don’t ask why it hasn’t happened…I can’t get an answer out of them…

I’ve looked through the help files on the Utopia main page, and have done most of what’s suggested. Anyways, I hope this picture helps.

This worked for me after I made sure all of the relevant bits were in place (C++ 2005 redistributable etc), login to your router interface, change Authentication Type to PPPoA (will most likely be set to PPPoE).

Hey buddy

I’m running on ADSL2+ Bigpond 20000/1000 and it seems to run really well. I had a similar issue early this year, which I think resolved when the C++ thing was added. I found the link here in EF. Will have a look.

Without the C++ files installed generally the Client Loader won’t run, he seems to get past that point and ‘times out’ during login process. Firstly make sure you have 56k or 64k set in your speed in the Client Loader Options. The go into your router and change Authentication Type to PPPoA (from PPPoE)

It turns out that PPPoE has a checking system that causes the time-outs, PPPoA doesn’t and this should fix your login problem.

Nice to see some more Aussies heading into EU.. Welcome

I occasionally have this problem when travelling to remote parts (Slower connection speed) So it may just be the connection speed.

Firstly, have you checked the stats on the right hand side of the client loader to see that your PC is capable of running EU?
If so, and they are fine, have you tried running in safe mode?

If not, to run in safe mode;
-Open up the client loader
-Click options>safe mode

If this solves your issues then try adjusting graphics to low in game (by pressing escape>options>graphics).

Far from ideal, but should at least get you in there.

Cheers :beerchug:,

Aly

EDIT: Try the connection speed option and router solution posted above first.. I also had this issue with routers and network adapters.

Er, I need the PPPoE for things like emails and my other games, all of which run fine with the settings I have. I’m extremely reluctant to change any settings on my modem without knowing why that needs to happen and what more importantly that’s going to do with the rest of my programs that use the modem.

More information, please?

hehe well one way or the other you should be online now

Good Luck & Welcome to Entropia/Planet Calypso
