Mentoring

Some questions

What skill levels do you need?

How many disciples can you take? (I’m going to try and mentor two)

What exactly happens? Does the disciple need to be active all the time?

How do they complete their discipleship?

I heard mentors get a “present” from MinkArk for completion…what is this?

ANY info would be super!

If you press avatarinformation (K) ingame and press “diciples” and “info” or something you’ll get a list of what skills the diciple have to get for you to get your mentorreward.

No the Diciple dont have to be active all the time but it is offcourse best.

The present can be almost anything… from candles to guns. It will be socalled mentor-edition type of item. Some of them go for really high prices, some of them dont. But mostly all of them is sellable.

You can take ALOT of diciples. Im not sure how many…

well you must be of decent skill to mentor. Would tell you that as a mentor my self more then one at a time unless they are pretty easy and quick to learn is a bit more thwn I care for. the deciple has to achieve skill levels and there listed under your deciple info. they have ro reach a certain level in order for you to recive a gift. But if your in it for the gift i would suggest you just go buy what you want and let someone who really wants to help them do it. Nothing is more aggrivating then having to help out someone elses deciple. If you decide to mentor understand your talking months of helping the deciple out showing him or her the ropes. I often take my deciples out on skilling and hunts. And it will take a long time depending on the deciple before they graduate but as a mentor i have had alot of pleasure watching my deciples turn into something cool. Good skilled players.

As far as I know you can start mentoring someone when your skills are out of ‘Newbie’ level… personally I wouldn’t bother until you know more about the game… not just know more from what other people tell you, but also, you should know more from your own personal experience.

There’s no point taking on a disciple and not being able to answer his/her questions.

I dont know how many disciples you are allowed… but why would you want to know that anyway? I see alot of crap people in game, they take on as many disciples as they can get just in the hopes that they will receive lots of MA gifts whenever their disciples complete their discipleship.

I dont’ think it’s possible to give your undivided attention to more than 1 or 2 students.. (although, I know alot of the more experienced players could do this fine… simply because they have alot more experience in the game than new players… ie. people playing for less than 6 months). It’s not fair on you disciple, when they look to speak with you for advice and help, but you’re too busy out chatting to friends or whatever. You must be there for them when they need you.

Your students will need you to take them to visit all the TPs… this will either be the most boring, or most fun task of being a mentor. This is why you must speak a while with your potential student before offering your mentorship, as you may not get along well with them. It’s best to find someone in the same (or close to) timezone as you. This way you can be online at the same time.

I hate to see poor newcomers to game shouting out in main chat “My mentor is rubbish he/she is NEVER online… and when I DO see them.. they ignore me or tell me that they’re too busy”… isnt this sad? I never took a mentor on when I started, simply because I wanted to find things out for myself. I spawned in Fort Ithaca, and within my first 10 minutes there, I must’ve had about 20+ mentor offers from people who never even had the decency to say “Hi”.

IF you are serious about becoming a mentor, then here are my suggestions.. (I’m sure the other guys n gals’ll post some more  )

 1. Explore Calypso, make sure you have all your TPs. The experience you get from this will be essential. You’ll encounter different mobs, learn about what areas you can handle, and others you cannot. Your disciple will need this advice when they join also… no point sending your student into the wilderness without warning them about Trox and Spider areas.

 2. Gain a decent amount of skills. No point in the blind leading the blind

 3. Only take on 1 student!! I cannot stress this enough… you’re asking about being a mentor, therefore you obviously have no experience in doing that. Trust me, use your 1st student to learn how to do this. It’s time consuming.

 4. Like I said before, find someone in or around your timezone. No point in having someone in Australia if you live in Spain. You most likely wont be on together.

 5. Don’t just sit rubbing your hands together waiting for your Mentor Gift from MA… you may end up getting a candle … ROFL!!

 6. Get a set of Goblin/Pixie and a D-1… your student will need these for skilling.

 7. Go skilling with your disciple… after all, you took the job as their mentor. Do your damn job

 8. Try to be there for them whenever they need your help and advice. I know sometimes this isnt possible, but do your best.

 9. If you dont know the answer to a question they ask… dont lie. Be honest and tell them you dont know, but you will ask a friend for them.

 10. Help them with their trading, ensuring they dont get scammed. Make sure you inform them of all the risks in the game.

 11. Make friends with other mentors, that way you can exchange knowledge and ideas.

 12. Last but not least… have FUN with your student… it’s likely you two will become great friends in the game

 13. If you’re a good mentor, your disciple will recommend you to others :wise:

Others have already offered some great advice, here’s some extra answers

What skill levels do you need?
The official statement says you need to have at least one ‘unskilled’ professional standing. This is actually rather low, and IMO far too low.

There is no limit really, some players have disciples covering 2 or more pages.
Taking on more then a couple will consume a great deal of time though, unless you neglect some of them.

You offer mentorship, they accept.
When they reach a certain skill level in one of the qualifying skills they graduate.
There is no time restrictions on how fast or how slow the process to graduation takes - some complete it in days or weeks and some in months.
How do they complete their discipleship?
Reach a certain skill level in one of the qualifying skills. You can get the list ingame if you click the disciples button in the avatar/skill info screen.
It will only let you get the list if you have a disciple though.
It’s the Mentor Edition (ME) version of a regular item, you get just one item per graduating disciple and it comes out with a TT value of 0.
Typically it’s something low-end, and not all that valuable on the market.
Do NOT mentor just for the item rewards.

Bye,

NUB!
Sorry but I have issues with the whole mentorship thingy

From my point of view he can become a good mentor as long as he can be a good friend to him aswell. Its was better to have a friend ingame then to be alone or worse, been taked advantage of by those mentor’s who just add you then dont talk to you anymore.

But offcourse, yes a mentor should know a little of the game. But you’ll never know anything unless you seek information, like Anon did here

What’s wrong with  ???

Ok- I agree with most of what has been said… I would personally wait to mentor until you have a very good grasp of the game. And of course, even then… mentoring is like teaching… you need to be ready and willing to teach.

I’ve only mentored a couple of ppl. I am like MB… I much prefer just lending advice when some1 asks for it rather than mentoring.

But if you choose to mentor, gl… and don’t just do it for the rewards (which are often small)
