Manual & auto options in mining

Background:
[ul]
[li]Auto-extraction exists for towers[/li][li]Can be implemented for other claims[/li][li]Addresses player frustration with manual extraction[/li][/ul]

Benefits:
[ol]
[li]Reduces support cases for expiring claims[/li][li]Prevents exploiting the point above[/li][li]Allows uninterrupted mining during “waves”, interruption all miners, dedicated and casual alike, absolutely hate.[/li][/ol]

Implementation:
[ul]
[li]Add auto/manual extraction option in finder UI[/li][li]Auto-extraction begins immediately; resources available post-extraction;[/li][li]Auto-extraction collection uses extractor, consumes decay, grants reduced skill gain[/li][li]Consider SOOTO for manual extraction[/li][li]Deeds stop expiring; uncollected resources auto-extract, even if auto was not explicitly selected[/li][/ul]

Pros:
[ul]
[li]Increases resource production[/li][li]Removes extraction bottleneck[/li][li]Boosts economy[/li][/ul]

Precedent: Similar system existed for towers previously

No. already way too many ressources laying arround.
they fucked hunting when they scaled up the cycle.
how does it boost economy?
you would just drop 3 amps and go hunting and leave it auto-extracting
also that just makes it easier for mining bots
leave mining as it is.

Not a bad thing, it means more stuff can be added to use those. Nothing wrong with fillers. Filler like iron got to 112% during RM

How is higher cycle a fuck-up? Higher cycle, more kills, more skills, more chances of rares…

A lot higher consumption of amps, finders, extractors?
Tiering resources in higer availability, more people would tier more items increasing enhancers consumption…

Yes! That is the point? A lot more people would turn to mining. It’s the no. 1 reason for whhc and other high cyclers don’t like to mine: the extraction…

There are reported and documented bots which should be addressed but keeping the system from evolving , from innovating is a bad way to address this issue.

those ideas are not to make miners life easier, just to allow hunters to mine while they hunt and craft.
That would make anyone with a decent wallet self sustainable .
how high cycle fucked up? well lots of hunters just doing events now, wonder why, guess the juicy markup outside events is just to high ..
leave mining as the niche to players that sill actualy play the game.

You know how Sisyphus had to roll a huge boulder endlessly up a steep hill in Tartarus…i want mining to be like that …an endless suffering.

Some good points,
the reason why I stay away from mining is because of the extraction step… it takes time and its so booooring.

No.

Would certainly lessen risk of lootable PvP mining .

Cmon guyz, why are you so negative. Its “better for the community”, you know?

Sarcasm aside, we all know whats going to happen. Mining mains (people who are actually dedicated to this profession) will come, explain how this is bad, but MA will see $ rolling and still implement it, so those who dont give a single fuck about the community (look, it will be the same people who warmed bench for 3 days just recently, or the ones who were defending them) can cycle more.

But hey, there is always a “positive side”. WIth autocrafting, automining and autohunting we finally can stop interacting with each other in this RCE.
As an unwise man once said: “a whale does not care how many people play the game…”, will finally come true.

Discussing this with some miners on various channels, everyone agrees that if any overhaul should happen to mining, it should start with making so that mining skills matter a lot more. We all agree on this.

If we want more players to play the game, main professions should not be niche professions and everyone should find it easier, less boring and tedious. Camping a LA watching for wave to start in order to drop couple hundred peds probes is not really mining… is not the mining that’s healthy for the game. We understand waves are a must, but they should be worked on so it’s less obvious, less tied on all resources, rares should be spread more and not all drop in the begining after the server CRON job runs…

Small and big players alike, poor or whale, we all wish for the game to get bigger playerbase, or we should wish for that at least…

we are at a point that conserving the playerbase is key.
Auto extract could IF work for multis only and also no other activity than mining could me made at the same time.
Sure that an increase in the playbase would be awsome , but better a bird on the hand than 2 birds flying.
btw there is still life outside waves for mining, can we say the same for hunting?
There is a mod-nano user/owner right now mining during migration (one of the best mu events ,claimed by many, guess they dont smell markup anymore)
here i rest my case.

If we want more people to play the game, we need to give them purpose and a chance to succeed.

By having to compete vs “universally self sufficient” ubers, who can:

  1. Farm everything, instead of buying from those new hunters/miners/crafters/gatherers.
  2. And transform everything into a final product (complete quests for items / turn ins / craft) in a more efficient way than those new players dedicated to any profession.
  3. And all of it without a time “penalty”.

We will take from them every single reason to play or continue playing this game.

Dear community, step up. Player retention is failing because we are cruising in the direction of those, community harmful suggestions, for a while now.

I dont understand why waves are a must. Could you elaborate why?

Im curious also in what way you agree on making mining skills matter a lot more.

  1. Make mining skills to have purpose, once you max L30 or terra 6/7 it makes no sense to further improve in that regard
  2. Dropping probes is fun, excavating claims is not, i would suggest devs to use the game rework (ue5) and figure something out regarding this
  3. Introduce anti-bot mechanics: there are mining botters roaming around and ruining markup for regular players. This is currently the worst issue when it comes to mining.
  4. Introduce new mechanics that will take usage of 0.1% brain instead of just sending level 1 miner to argus pvp to mine
  5. Introduce looter skills mechanics for mining

Isn’t it best to have options? Isn’t it great to be equipped for any opportunity? That’s a big win there…

“Wave” is the current way of controlling rarity in the game. It seems there isn’t another way, at least so far, to introduce the rarer resources, but just by a server cron job that runs at certain intervals, adding the rares in lootpool at that point and those resources become available until scooped out by the players poking the loot pool. For some minerals it’s a set quantity per “wave”. Let’s say 1k Pyrite per wave. And it has high chance of dropping, after the 1k is mined, then people get the remaining fillers. The problem with this system is that it’s very obvious, it’s same system for all resources, all provessions, all planets. So you can spot it hunting snable, looting diluted sweat for example and some people wait for 45 minutes or so, do their thing when they spot the wave, then wait and chill for another 45-min 1hr…

People with high levels in mining had a lot of turnover and higher skill should matter as in maybe they get better TT returns, maybe they find rare resources easier compared to people with no/low skills, maybe find SOOTOs more often, mining boxes, or make the gear used at higher skill a little better, to emphasize the skills. Atm, you only need level 30, for Dclass and L30 seeker and you have same capabilities as highly skilled miners..

Just implement macros across all professions.

My guess is they can’t make it purely chance because that would be considered gambling and subject them to Swedish regulations, so this is their solution.

Mining skills used to matter. In the original project Entropia the higher level your miner skill was the more ped you got from every claim. Ie: strakkan would be able to pull 7 ped from an avg claim while a noob would only get say 5.5-6. The claim size was not decided until extraction was complete (if you hit a XV claim you didn’t get a swirl till all stones and TT was excavated. I believe this was a better system because the skills did in fact matter. Now all claims are predetermined size at probe drop and extraction skill doesn’t matter.

If they want to fix mining forget the auto extraction feature, but make prospector skills matter in terms of TT return, the same way they say looter works in hunting.
