Just a simple "Thank you Daina!" goes a long way.

There have been several times when I am playing, and I find a new or not-so-skilled player in need of help. For example, a fairly new miner was mining on Ithaca with 3 atrox on his tail. He yelled out “help!” and, despite Angelo and I already having 4 on us, I quickly ran out and shot at the 3 to take aggro and killed them off. He was able to go about his day mining with time and frustration saved. I did a kind thing by taking those atrox off of him. He said “thank you Daina!” and that gave me the warm fuzzies that just made my day.
Today I was at the swamp camp with a friend and we were opening a wormhole to Twin Peaks. We sent several people through it, but only 1 person needed the TP. 1 person. We spent about 14 ped on ME/decays to send that 1 person to Twin Peaks. Why? No, not because we’re getting 14 ped worth of skills, because we’re not. No, not because we’re getting payed to do it, because we’re not. We did it because we were trying to do a kind thing for people. It only helped out 1 person, but that 1 person, who we did not know previously, was important enough for us to spend that 14 ped, that $1.40 and open a wormhole just to save her some time.
After the wormhole event, I decided to stick around and do a little healing. One guy asked for medical assistance, so I went and fapped him, healing 54, bringing his health nearly to full. Now, I personally do not like to waste peds, so I let the rest of his health naturally regenerate, as I would have done healing myself. After healing him this 54, instead of saying “Thank you Daina!” what did he say? “more.” - a demand. Not a request, not a plea for assistance, a demand. He demanded more healing. I explained to him that health naturally regenerates and that it would be a waste for me to heal him another 50+, as he was only lacking perhaps 10-20 health points. He ignored me and continued about his day sweating.
Ok that just killed the helpful mood I was in.
If you’re sweating and somebody heals you, say thank you! It’s not your given right to be healed, the person healing you is not taking advantage of you by healing! The person is taking some time out of their day and some money out of their pocket to help you. A simple “Thank you (insert player name here)” works very well, keeps the person in a helpful mood.
Why do I help people? Because I like to feel warm fuzzies, I like to have people thank me. I like to help people. Does this make me a greedy bitch? Is it really all that much to ask for a simple “thank you Daina”?
“Oh but you gain skills. I am helping you” - uhh ok… Yeah, so I spend 93 ped on this Vivo T20 and get maybe 10-20 ped worth of skills back… REALLY great profit I’m making right? Oh yeah I am totally taking advantage of you… No guys! I’m not profiting by healing you when you sweat! Don’t look at me as if I’m gaining something and you’re being deprived. I am helping you and I am paying good money for it.
All done ranting, have a nice day

agree with op

Ah it’s true… The word Thank-You is a wonderful thing…

And it’s soo easy to use, too. Really. No effort atall…

I use the word often, and not always when it was strictly necessary, but if it’s easy to do, and makes people feel warm and fuzzy, then why Not do it?

eg… You bump into a friend, and have a 5 minute conversation. It is pleasant. At the end of the conversation, touch their arm, look them in the eye and smile and say “Thank you, Daina :)” (or use their name, ofc)

See if you don’t get a smile back.

Daina, please don’t Ever stop helping people out. Helping others is it’s own reward, and the warm fuzzy glow from the few who do say ThanX is a bonus. But you won’t stop, I’m sure…

Yupp be nice to the healers.

They can quit heling and then the Sweaters will have troble. You can see that confusion at Neas some times when no healer are there. The Sweaters cind of get stuck there at the rivive just asking over and over for a Healer, looks cind of funny.

You do what you do for your own reasons, and I happen to agree with you, the people you help should be happy that you make the effort. I regularly do focus sessions, and most players thank me for it. Some don’t, and some even demand or ‘ask’ for it in a tone that would make me shoot them instead if it was a PvP zone.
But you set yourself up if you expect too much. Your expectations may be reasonable and valid, you are still liable to get disappointed because there’s so many unreasonable players out there.
So heal/skill to your heart’s desire, but don’t expect too much. That way, you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Angelo Ang Frazzini (the Mime/Magician) is from Desperate House
Thank you for saying thank you - it is always appreciated

Thank you Daina!

heh, i know that

there used to be a time i healed with minor heal chip ppl at troy sweating (when troy was sweating capital kinda)

after several newbies pushing others away, jumping up and down, demanding "HEAL!!11! and “FOCUZZZ!” i left that

if ppl not say thx i can live with, but if they demand stuff i won’t #D

Good advice here guys, try it and see.

“Daina, please don’t Ever stop helping people out. Helping others is it’s own reward, and the warm fuzzy glow from the few who do say ThanX is a bonus. But you won’t stop, I’m sure…”

As long as I can afford to I will continue

I try not to expect much, but I certainly expect people to have the common courtesy to refrain from demanding favors

Hello Daina!
thanks for that wormhole in twin today :stuck_out_tongue:  gl

Nice post.

Thank you Daina!
.

I’m not quite sure about what I’m about to say because I haven’t made a case study about it but, my guess is that most of the people sweating in the swamp wont read this!
And obviously not everyone had the education we would like them to have had!:frowning:

What you said happened to me a lot of times and I just moved on! It’s not up to me to educate people especially when the people who should have done that task failed!

Bear in mind that some avatars at Swamp camp have been there for less than an hour and don’t realise it costs the healers real money to heal them.

Don’t let one players remark spoil the warm fuzzies Glluepot. Healers and focusers there are very much appreciated.

Been a while since i visit the “Swampo” myself, but last times i was there, i noticed that exact thing happening a lot… Don’t sweat* it Daina dear, there’s always a Nice smiley pic in our Picture Albums, the ugly, nasty ones always manage to stay out

Remember the good stuff in here, (although i totally understand your vent  ).

Migi

PS: TY Daina! For being around and that long lasting haircut! Damn nice Gel you used back then… my hair still has it’s shape :o

*PPS: i could have inserted a joke there but opted not to :stuck_out_tongue:

i dont think its too much to expect people to use please and thank you’s. we are no longer cave men.

if people push others out the why then sorry to say they dont get healed..

I know what you mean, but some new players will come through this forum and hopefully will read it… We should get those pets at the swamp camp to give an education lesson… “Healing is not free, it costs us money, so please do not demand it - as it is a generous service we are offering without compensation”.
