I wanted to start the discussion to see what you all think MA’s policy should be on Inactive Avatars and their Gear. Also, what effects on items do you beleive these policies would have?
Some questions to consider:
Should items on an Inactive Avatar revert to the lootpool at somepoint?
If so, how long and under what conditions?
If not, why not?
What do you see as the result on items in the lootpool from your opinion on the above questions?
Let me know your thoughts. I have become more and more interested in this subject over the last year or so. Having friends that have quit leaving IMP Faps and other high end items, the number of people that hoard storages full of gear and the decline in items in loot. Is their a correlation? It makes me wonder if something should be done and what the effects would be.
Well I don’t know about if items return to the lootpool or not, but I stopped playing just after PE went gold, and when I one day decided to return to it (over a year later) I found my avatar was locked, and uppon getting it unlocked all of my items and skills were gone and my PED card was credited the amount that I had originally deposited. :dunno:
I don’t think that there would be all too much benifit to the general populus in doing that. Much of the value of the highend items comes in +TT value, none of which would be returned to the loot pool, and the more interesting kind of items like pre-gold amps and MOD Faps and stuff wouldn’t be returned to actual loots but would return as “updated” versions or kind of “next closest thing”

What about banned or so called Locked avatars?
I point at CrashOveride he has uber pre gold gear sitting with no one using it?

Agreed, but even on an everyday gear type of level. Just imagine all of the hides, wool, molisk teeth, midrange armor and guns, etc etc on all of the avatars that quit.
It just seems to me that if all of that gear were returned to the lootpool we may see some old school item packed loot windows.

EDIT: To Extent’s post
Sure the Pre-Gold Items would be no longer pregold but at least they would drop. And a MOD Fap is a MOD Fap. It would still drop just the same as it is today. Also, if highend as well as all other held up items were redistributed the market prices would go down some.
If there really are that many accounts sitting with stuff just rotting away, it would be nice if they got re-absorbed into the loot pool. After a year of no activity maybe. But, I’ve got to wonder if there’s that many people that didn’t either cash out or give their stuff away before they quit. Seems to me that would be the logical thing for most folks to do. That’s what I would do if I were quitting.

I have two IRL friends who used to play this game. Both of them quit and never cashed out. One I finally convinced to let me cash him out because he was worth so much PED. The other I am still working on
Alot of these people have no clue they have gear worth potentially thousands of USD. Most didn’t deposit all that much in the first place so they just walk away, or as Faustain said, there are those that were Banned/Locked.
In that case, I’m tempted to say that, if you do something bad enough to get banned, you lose. Your stuff is then forfeit. If you’re locked pending an investigation then no, your stuff shouldn’t be touched. As for others who just don’t know, don’t care…give 'em a year to clear out, otherwise…back to the lootpool says I! :evilking:
I just want the stuff I loaned to my disciple a while ago. Thats all I want. Just that please. (What was I thinking giving him all that and him not even playing that long.)

Hope you dont mind my quick off-topic question but .. What exactly happened to CrashOveride? He is always talked about as an important/nice guy but he was banned .. what happened? Just curious.
As to the topic in question .. I do think avatars that have been banned due to “rule breaking” should have there items redistributed (if that is a forever ban, of course). As for inactivity, I may take a year break from this game, you never know. I know that’s a long break but I’ve done it with other games and PE is a game I never plan on quiting… which makes long breaks neccesary. :silly2:
I’m not sure of a solution for the players that do quit and leave empty accounts though.
this whole discussion is missing one thing: a clear understanding of how MA distributes loot.
hasn’t Marco even said before that there wasn’t a loot pool?
sorry, i am not trying to kill the discussion, but i can’t give an informed answer without knowing if all that stuff in storage or on some not used avatar actually makes one single difference about the loot that is dropped today.
i personally don’t think it does.
but, here are two answers…
if the total loot “at large” doesn’t effect current loot drops, then it can sit in storage for infinity for all i care.
if total loot dropped and still “at large” effects current drops (lessens them), then there needs to be a set time that an inactive avatar’s gear “does something.”
how long? 2 years, i’d say. 1 is just too short. the bug can come back after that; i know from personal experience.
does something…what does that mean? well, i don’t know if it should just be erased forever, replaced with PED, or what.
hmm, figured i’d take a peak at the Conditions of Use.
Violation to the conditions
If you violate any part of this Agreement, your account may be terminated, locked, or warned in the form of a temporary lockdown. Any action taken against your account due to a violation is the decision of MindArk and is final. Any claims, virtual items, funds, etc, located on a locked avatar account is forfeit and any fund transactions pending are revoked.
umkay, so if you are perma banned your gear is gone. right?
i couldn’t find the policies on when an inactive account becomes locked. does anyone know where that is spelled out?
I don’t belive Marco ever said there was no loot pool. Someone did say that it was an “interesting theory”, I don’t remember who but it could have been Marco.
Also I belive items CAN be “injected” back into the loot pool. To me this was proven during the unique item event.
This discussion, of course, relies on the assumption that the items reverted to MindArk would be returned to the player base via loot. I choose to use the term “lootpool”.
Whether or not you beleive in the “Lootpool Theory” is irrelevant to the discussion as I am suggesting that MA strip Inactive Avatars of their items and redistribute those items via loot on a periodic basis.

hmm, okay. for the purposes of this discussion, we are assuming that MA has the ability to strip gear and redistribute it.
so, you are basically asking, “would we like better loot that comes from the accumulated gear of inactive players?”
My opinion on this is pretty basic…
MA could simply contact the person in charge of the avatar in question…after a given amount of time, let’s say 1 year.
If no response is sent back to them, the items in question can go back into loots (except skills, which would be impossible to loot, for now anyways).
If they do get in touch with the person, they can be given the choice to either lose all items and not withdraw their investment or all items, including skills can be put on auction by MA…
putting the unused items and skills on auction not only helps the person get the tt+ value of their items, but if they had an imp fap, then it would be bought on auction and then used, therefore it would decay and then be repaired, MA would still be getting their money and the person would get their investment back.
This way those items wouldn’t be “lost” forever.
As for locked or banned Av’s, once the investigation has been made(assuming it becomes a permanent ban), the items should go on auction for the tt value buyout. The locked or banned person will simply lose what they invested, cause they were stupid enough to get banned from a game where nearly everything goes. This would also keep those items in circulation and they wouldn’t just disappear.
MA could start em off at TT value, with something like a 30 day auction, no buyout. If they did that once a month (say on the first of every month) and advertised it on the front page of the CL with a list of items, it would be fair to everybody, as everyone would be informed about it
We know that non decaying “pre-gold” / “beta” stuff would be exchanged for the more modern equivalent, but yeah - some very rare items could resurface
i like runts idea too. putting things in auction is much more fair as some of the items that are on the avatar might not even be lootable.
and it also gives non-hunters a chance for them. plus, if MA did put it back in to be redistributed through mobs, they would choose the baddest mobs around so only the elite players would benefit.
LOL nice idea Runt… I thought the same thing myself.
But after beginning to write this idea when the thread originally opened, I held myself back b/c I needed to think it through a bit more… here’s the downside… :wise:
The one drawback would be that the wealthier players would continue to get a hold of items that are super rare (such as pre-gold items that would inevitably show up at auction if this were implemented)… So I disagree with Silo that somehow all of us others would somehow benefit from good old items at auction… It will continue to help the ubers.
That said, I’m not necessarily against the idea anyway. But I certainly would think about whether or not we want the wealthiest of players to obtain old items that no1 else can otherwise. Despite this, of course, the money would go to lootpool so that would remain an advantage for us

I only think it would help the ubers more if the prices were set about TT value…
If they put the starting bid at tt on the items such as Imp Faps and things like that, the it makes since that the more PED-enriched players would have a bid war for them…
But on smaller things, like pixie parts or even crafted gear like EMT kits, there’s no reason why those prices would skyrocket.
Personally, I’d be happy to see a Surv. Enblade 11 on auction with a starting bid of TT, instead of the outrageous prices people put them on for. There would still be bidwars, but it is more likely for these things to be affordable for newer players like myself.

a miner will never get a loot from hunting (assuming of course they don’t hunt). but, we can all access the auction.
the ubers are always going to be uber. the rich get richer…
