Help - Not having fun here

I didn’t like ‘Ed’, In the creation chamber he looked good, but in the World - ew - ugly. So I have created a new account for the game. I am using this forum account to tell my tale and ask my questions so as to not get anyone in trouble or make problems here.

For my Second Charcter (nameless here so as to not cause issues for my “mentor”). I decided to make the deposit - after jumping through loops and burning rings, I finally managed to get my card to ok me $10.00 (I have to wait until billing cycle to deposit more US Dollars for a “code”). My initial attempt was to deposit $100.00 US - thinking that that would be more than enough and demonstrate my willingness to be part of this “new” colony and its economy.

Please to note my disappointment to discover that I could only deposit ten a month until I get this “code” on one of my bills. Unfortunately I no longer get a paper bill for my credit card so it better show up in my on-line account or I will never be able to deposit more than $10.00 a month.

First I appeared at the Port Atlantis, I didn’t even make it to the entry gates to talk to the Civilians before a person runs up and offers to be my mentor. I say yes, I guess I need one since I am really new to this World.

Then he gets me to buy Goblin Armor, which all needed major repairs, then got me a Jester d-1 which needed lots of repairs, then told me to run north/north east to Phoenix and hunt there. He made me his “freind” and told me to contact him anytime he is online to ask questions via the Freind’s channel.

The total price for all of that stuff (Armor and weapon) without the ammo was almost 50 PED. For the items and of course to fully repair them (all were completely drained to a little red point)

After getting killed three times (couldn’t figure out how to move about after all the Game has changed between Ed and my New character, I had figured out how to manuver before this change, now its different), I finally reach Billy’s space port, then a death and a terminal revive I find myself in Pheonix.

Since getting there and hunting I find that all of my money is used up in buying ammo. After all a Jester uses two rounds of Medium cell ammo, and of course with a few Less than 1 Ped loots and only one loot worth 1 Ped and a 5 Ped pistol (dead, needed 42 peds of repair and took 6 shots of small cell ammo) I was not breaking anywhere near even.

After a few days of hunting and sweating (Actually I was sweating critters, then grabbing my Jester and killing them when they started attacking) I find that Sweat has sunk to a low of less than 3 Ped. With ‘Ed’ I was selling at 3.9 to 4 ped for 100 sweat in a bottle. Around the same time as the game controls changed the market crashed I guess.

Though the Guide makes the suggestion to go to the PK area and get oil to sell, what it fails to tell you that even armed with a Jester you are a dead man so might as well forget that idea. The Sweat Market is not there, and sweating appears to not work too well, lots of failures - after a few days playing (hours playing, in reality this is spread out over a couple weeks since I do have a life beyond the Colony ;)) I have managed to get 182 sweat.

Everytime I have been on line my Mentor is either not on line, or he logs in for a minute or two and logs off and completely ignors my messages sent via the freinds channel.

It will be a little longer for my billing cycle (I assume once a month means a month after your deposit date). So I can not deposit for a little while.

Is this normal activity for the game or am I just extremely unlucky when it comes to hunts. It seems that most of the animals I have killed have no loots. I have roamed further afield, further north to Forth Ithica and Hadeshiem areas. I stick with what I can kill with a jester d-1 before it takes to many points from me - Usually I can kill about a dozen creatures before having to park myself and regen.

Exosuars, the Snotty guys and the tall blue birds around Fort Ithaca have been what I have hunted. There are some very fast birds which I hit once and then they run too fast for me to hit them again.

I have tried to find out what else I can hunt with a jester, but again my Mentor doesn’t get on line often or doesn’t answer my questions.

Also, I wanted to be a miner, but my mentor told me to be a hunter because hunting is easiest.

I think I am doing something dreadfully wrong here, I missed something or am not doing this right. Anyone have any suggestions on how to actually find creatures with loot?

thanks

Sorry to hear but you have fallen victim to one of the worst parts of PE: The Profession Crap Mentor.

These people take disciples jsut to get rewards or sell them items. They camp PA and prey upon orange suits.

This is one aspect that is hurting PE really bad. If a new player does not get the opportunity to experience PE and have fun, then they will not fall in love or get addicted. Crap Mentors do not know much about PE (mobs/stats/techniques) and this affects a disciples experience. Most mentors dont even take a disciple to many TPs or even the rig.

Kick your mentor or ask MA to do it. Dont hunt. Mine. It seems that only newbies can get hofs mining and rarely anyone from top20 socs. So you ahve strong change :stuck_out_tongue:

With the activation code you, you may be able to call your CC company. They can usually find and read the activation code over the phone to you.

Feel free to send me a PM with a few specific questions. I will be more than happy to give you a hand.

Also, welcome. You came to the right place for help.

Oh man~ deep breath in, Sveta… deep breath in…

Ok, here goes my initial response… in the meantime I will update this post with some link to other threads that might help you out.

Everything is in order as I saw it in your pm

[li]$10 deposit problem. You do not NEED to wait for the paper statement from your cc. You can simply call your credit card company and ask them for the code that they can see next to your first credit to MindArk :girl: So, no worries mate.[/li][li]That said, don’t go rushing into that $100 deposit. Ok. Listen up, pls! For your own good! :wise: I just encountered a guy near Aegis Mound… he was wearing some decent clothes and was throwing bombs for mining left and right. He was killed b/c he was not armed in any way and he asked me where the tp… he just needed to look over his shouldar a little to the north but he was clueless! I told him it’s to the north, then added that it’s the blue dot on the map  He then asked me how to see the map :scared: Ok… so my point to you my friend: do not assume that having things gets you anywhere in this game (at least immediately). It’s far wiser to take your time perusing the forum (as you hopefully are doing), chatting to ppl in game, and getting aquainted with everything b4 you throw a lot of money into it. Believe me, if an educated player can lose 100 ped quickly, think how fast it can go on a relative n00bie.[/li][li]I personally suggest ditching the armor- seems that your mentor mislead you into a huge money pit. Oh well- live and learn is what I say. You can either sell the armor for some upfront peds or hold it until you can afford to repair it adequately… something to know: many players feel you should keep your armor freshly repaired to total tt… just something to think about. Don’t worry about putting it in rep term for 1 ped or 50 pec or whatever… just do without it for a little while, take hits, gain evade and hp![/li][li]Stick with the Jester if you plan on staying rifle… lowest cost all around.[/li][li]Don’t worry about your mentor. Some of them are flat out n00bs themselves and have no right teaching other newbies  Not saying that’s the case with yours, but just don’t worry about him. Do your thing. Collect all the tp’s so you have them, but also so you get a lay of the land and to see all the mobs. Don’t be afraid to die! No big deal… u get reborn.[/li][li]Go for exars/bibos around PA yes, but also daikbiba and exars around Troy and snables around Atlas Haven..[/li][/ul]Have fuN!

EDIT- I said I would post links but there are too many too post LOL… just look on the noobs forum here and check out all the invaluable advice you will find

  1. your mentor sucks. You picked the first guy to come along, and that was probably not a good idea.

  2. You may have been overcharged for that stuff.

  3. For now, use pixie armor, or none at all.

  4. Don’t shoot at those little birds.

  5. “No loots” are comon. You will consistently lose money until you get a nice big loot.

  6. Keep your armor repaired if you use it - it gives more protection. Also know that you don’t need to fully repair your weapon or fap to use it at it’s best potential.

  7. get another mentor.

If you like I dont mind showing you around and teaching you some stuff, getting you some tp’s etc. No catch, no fee or any of that. Just happy to help

Send me a pm on here and we can arrange a time to meet up if you like.

  3. Those birds are harmless…well that depends,

  4. Yes..I agree

Its unfortunate that most newcomers first impressions with PE are so fraught with negative BS. It really is a fun game once you get past the scammers.

Simple . Don’t deposit.
Mindark sys it;s dynamic
I say BULLF@$#@#$^@
Casino’s have rules of conduct.

If a Casino’s did what they do . MA would be doin time .

I have to agree

I have to agree with the people saying that you have fallen victim of a crappy mentor. Personally i rarely take diciples and when I do, I make sure i have time to follow up on them. As i have not been on a decent connection in some time, i have not taken on any new mentors.
The thing he was right about was that you should have the Jester D-1 but he might of course have overcharged you for it (if he sold it to you). If I was your mentor and i had a spare D-1 i woulda given it for free as many other mentors also would.
I also agree that you should find a new mentor, one that actually IS a mentor and not just someone that is after the items.
When it comes to the oil rig, you need to be patient and work your way around the creatures there. Even with a 1000 PED armor youd be dead there quite fast unless you have a fair ammount of skills.

That is completely out of line Qualia, sorry to say so.
If you want to suggest that people shouldnt deposit, it can be done with a valid argument rather than just some trolling rant

I can only agree with what other have said here.

The best way to get rid of your low-life mentor is by filing a Support case, and asking MA to bump him from you. While it will change very little and won’t allow you to take on a new mentor, it will ensure the guy will not get any benefit out of this.

If he was the one to sell you the goblin armour and the Jester, how much did he charge you for it? And if you want, feel free to PM me his full in-game name. I do venture into PvP areas every now and then and could use some target practise

Sorry to hear your initial experience of PE has been bad :frowning:

Some good advice above, and plenty more throughout these forums, plus links to some great sites like pe-addict. I suggest you take some time out and read up on some tips

oh and make sure you send that support case to MA, dont let crap mentors gain from this sort of thing!!

Good advises all the way.

One more thing though…
In the beginning there was no mentors. The best way to find something out was, by then, to ask around. No, not in PA maybe. Take some time to explore. Get those TPs. Go elsewhere and ask someone that seems to have been ingame for a while. A polite question almost everytime result in a polite and information rich answer!

I think this is a great thread to be stickified.

I dont understand why noobs want to jump into the game so fast though.

I learned how to play, sweat, and interact before ever spending a red cent.

In fact, my first weapons (D1, Mann) I bought with proceeds from sweating..

I wasnt going to deposit until I had at least shot a gun. =)

Sorry to hear about the errors that (often) befall a new player. =/ All that armor didnt need to be repaired to the max.. Neither did the guns.

At least you know the equipment will last you a long time now..

And as someone else said, start with mining. You might have more beginners luck.

(but dont go buying all the best tools right away. start with the trade terminal stuff. :silly2: )
