Favourite comedy show?

Yesterday, after months and months of anticipation, I finally got my greedy little hands on Season 4 of Married with Children. I watched the first DVD this morning, and just started thinking. MWC has been one of the longest running sitcoms in TV history. In fact, I am almost certain few other shows surpassed it so far, if any.

Some of my favourite Bundy-shows:

 • The one where Al ends up with a burnout, and is advised to start a veggie garden. But Al’s not alone.
 • The leaky roof.
 • Al discovering a switch he can’t identify and being determined to find out what it is for.
 • The English episode with upper- and lower Uncton. (“Women, I don’t like 'em”)
 • No Ma’am heading to Washington to defend Psycho Dad.
 • Al visiting the dentist for the first time in years (Saw that today. Might be well on its way to become a new favourite of mine. Haven’t laughed that hard in times)

HOWEVER! There have been superior shows. Will and Grace springs to mind. Very clever, very funny. And don’t forget the British shows. Allo Allo was sheer brilliance (“I was pissing by the deer when I heard two loud shats”). Monty Python still is legendary (and rightfully so).

Friends? Some episodes were hysterical (personal favourites include Joey ending up across the street trying to figure out where a hottie lives and constantly ending up running into Ross, and Phoebe being upset when she finds out her gay friend actually likes women), but overall, I grew tired of it long before the rest of the population did (The Season 7 episodes with Gary Oldman being one exception).

So, you ask. After that terribly dragged out list of personal preferences, what IS your favourite comedy show ever, Peter?

One word:

Coupling - The original British version. I’ve seen the American “steal the script but use different actors, ho ho ho” version, and whoever came up with that idea should be hung alive after being set on fire. The British Coupling is hysterical, and very, very clever indeed. The script is simply brilliant, as is the acting. And, contrary to the Americans? The British version has Geoff. The REAL Geoff. Sadly, the actor chose to leave after season 3. I have yet to determine whether I want season 4. But the first 3 seasons were enough to have me pick Coupling as my favourite comedy up to date.

What’s YOUR favourite comedy, and why? Any special episodes you enjoy?

PS: Al Bundy would totally pwnz Geoff, though. Three touchdowns in one game…

I dont acctually watch too much TV… but well.

Simpsons are great ofc

But about COMEDY, I like stand-up. Eddie Izzard, Mitch Hedberg (r.i.p *sniff), robin williams, pablo fransisco, adam ferrara, Dave Chapelle, George Carlin, Tom Papa.. and so on

Good Stand-up, Beer and good company = a good time :yup:

2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps is probably the funniest thing on TV atm.

Friends, all the seasons, except maybe the last one (it kinda lost lil bit of it’s touch at few final seaons)

the blue collar comedy tour both movies now those are funny, and the dave chapelle show, and the simpsons

As if you couldn’t guess … “Home Improvement.”

I’m a Tim Allen fan for obvious reasons … lol :tongue2:

We rarely watch tv anymore, but among the shows that we do like (or have liked):
The Office- the British version. There is an American version which is nearly ver batem, but it’s just missing that stark, dry British wit imo.
Coupling- the British version as well for the same reasons.
Friends- we loved friends, although mostly just the first 5 seasons or so.
Monty Python- who doesn’t like it? :dunno:

try family guy and you will be all set

I really don’t like comedy shows that much, especially in recent years (or decades). But there are a few shows I liked over the years, and will watch if I see them on TV.

The Simpsons
Seinfeld
Get A Life
The Ren and Stimpy Show
Three’s Company
Freaks and Geeks
Monty Python
The Wonder Years
Parker Lewis Can’t Loose
The Flintstones
Happy Days
I Love Lucy
Malcolm In the Middle
The Young Ones

I find the funniest television is the unintentional comedy of things like Local and Network News (not necessarily the events reported, but how they are reported), Televangelists (my favorite is Jack Van Impe, but Pat Robertson is always good for a laugh too), and Professional Wrestling (especially local low budget stuff). Now that’s TV comedy.

i cant believe i forgot the family guy  damn that was a party foul :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Ren & Stimpy indeed rocked. Why they cancelled that is beyond me.

I remembered an all-time favourite Bundy episode I did not mention above. Possibly my favourite one ever.

It’s where Al and Jefferson decide to put together Al’s new workmate. It includes such gems as Jefferson drilling holes and Al watching on the other side to see if the drill came through, stapling a board to Al’s arm, etc.

Monthy Python (number one favorite)
Black adder (im not sure if this goes under comedy-shows .. but still)
Love and marriage

.. mmm and a tons of others i just dont remember the names of …

:silly2: Nevertheless - nice to get a good laugh

Can’t beat the classics, Yes Minister is one of my apsolute favarites

Monty Python and Fawlty Towers.

I love John Cleese!

I actually had a coworker that we all had nicknamed “Manuel” after the fall guy in Fawlty towers. And yes..he was a waste of space irl.

I always loved the way they changed the sign in front of the inn with each episode.
