I just got a new dell and it begins with loading the game, then it just stops after the first set of words. Everything in it is pretty much dell, so I don’t have high hopes, but is there a way to make it work? I’m sure I’m not the only dell user here.
This is what PE says…
System: Windows XP
Memory: 512 MBytes
Direct X: 9.0
Driver: Unknown, build 4020 Click for info
Codec status: Ok

check your drivers, update them as necessary. out of the box, it may not have the best or newest drivers.
your video card is probably crap, most dell video cards are intel, i believe, and not made for gaming… its probably got 32 megs of ram, or worse, its sharing system ram.
you may want to look into your video card stats, and possibly drop another 40 bucks on a new video card. the card you have is probably built into the motherboard, so you may have an open agp slot. just disable the onboard video and use the newly installed card.

You shouldn’t be so quick to bash Dell.
I’ve got a Dell and it works fine. Came with a beautiful Radeon 9800 Pro.
As for the problem, scyrusb, I’d also suggest upgrading your drivers.

yes, you are correct, sorry.
from my personal experience, dell is decent for basic needs. but they have a tendency to cut corners, and the machines that i have run into are pretty stripped. so im just thinking standard out of the box dell with no upgrades.
dell is decent. they make a solid computer. my argument is where they cut performance corners to make it cheaper. you just need to know what you need when you buy a dell, otherwise you’ll end up with a celeron and shared video memory… eww.
(Dell) Tendancy to cut corners? Heh, tell me about it. Only 2 ruddy ram slots, non-standard case design (I had to cut a part of the case out to get my new psu in!) and case openings that jam easilly.
Dell are cheap, but not good for power or expandability (Have you seen the specs of their gaming system? Awful!).
The only thing dell is good at is PDAs, they excell at that (Do you think we could get PE ported to pocket pc? Play it on the way to work, in bed, at dinner… )
No more dell computers for me though, its all homebuild now

you got 2 ram slots because you bought a cheapass model
Dell are good for what they’re designed for, office work, light home users, not heavy gamers or anything like that, which is why they don’t make the cost higher for you by putting in a bigger motherboard or case…
And if you think Dell is bad, you should try a lowend Acer…hell on earth in the form of lumps of metal and plastic :silly2:

Most of the Discount Dells Mobos don’t have AGP slots. You’d have to run a PCI gfx card if thats the case.
Note:PCI…not PCI-E
Radeon still makes a few good ones and it’ll play PE fine, for now at any rate.
Word of warning to all those that are looking to buy a new PC. Always double check these bargain PCs specs before buying.
