Do you like the new Sweating System?

Some thoughts:

There is IMHO a problem similar to the one with the new hunting system in 10.0. In 9.4 one could drag the health bar and click it and your avatar would move and aim appropriately, and the same thing would apply while sweating. Now you have to keep the crosshairs on the target yourself - and I don’t like that. Why? Because this is supposed to be an MMORPG. Your character has skills you don’t; for example, I am not a trained rifleman but my character is. And the same certainly applies to sweating! EU is not billed as an FPS game and you should not be forced to play it like one. Although if you want to play it that way, fine by me.

Also, there are now four points of failure with sweating where there used to be only three. It used to be that you could have your concentration broken while doing the sweating dance, or you could fail, but once the beam had gone on you were going to get the sweat - if there was any to get. Now, often the attempt fails - and your concentration can be broken while pulling - and if anything crosses the beam or the target runs out of range the extraction fails.

What’s going to happen now? IMHO the price will stabilise at around the 8/k mark, as sweat is now harder to get than it was and you get less at a time. Sounds great for noobs? Not really, because the reason for the higher price is greater difficulty of obtaining the stuff. Money per hour will be about the same.

I suppose that before too long the FAP skillers will congregate at Swamp, too. However, I think that it might not be quite as many, because it used to be one TP jump from PA and now it’s three. If I’m right, there will be a further problem - having to wait a fair while to go out again to sweat, if you are a real noob.

Bottom line; the new system might end up good, but it needs a few tweaks.

It seems to me that if you’re in sweating range of the mob you can click the health bar and auto-target the mob like you used to be able to. But if you’re outside of the range of the tool, it won’t work. So all you need to do it go closer and then click the bar.

Same thing happens with weapons, so it seems to be a bug (one of several) in the re-introduced movement system.

Fisrt Impressions

I don’t sweat much anymore, but I went out to try my new VSE Mk 1 last night, and all in all I think it is an improvement on many fronts. I was just south of Troy, sweating Daiki’s and Exa’s, then killing them with a TT blade.

Thinking back on when I first started, the MF Dance felt kind of stupid, where using a tool is both more normal, and a better introduction to game mechanics.

The fast reload makes it possible to have higher number of attempts before the mob attacks, so I found I got sweat from every mob, and in several cases 10 or 12 successes. I never did dry a mob on my own though.

I tried both 1st and 3rd person (as I have become comfortable in 1st person now) and found both to effective. 1st person was actually more fun because it required more attention to the process, and was more engaging. (I find this to be true of hunting, too, but I look forward to 3rd person mining)

In the time I spent (enough to decay the blade 7ped) I gathered just shy of 400 bottles, and the greater number of successes, and lesser wait time after a failure, was far less frustrating.

As for the visuals, it looks cool. I used to like the old ray-tube effect, until they changed the direction the tube appeared to flow, which made no sense. As for the sound - my sound level is pretty low as I have my own music playing in the background - I can’t really say.

All in all, I think it is pretty well done. It will be interesting to see how things develop. The possibility of improved tools also makes it likely that SG skill will mean something (looking at you, Mega :)), and will give sweaters an opportunity to progress the way other professions do. I suspect we will have to wait for the full MF re-introduction for that, but it will be interesting to see how things develop.

ps - lol at my post title typo

It was horribly boring, and not very economical to do (who would work for the pay sweating gave). Now it has become even more boring (like crafting) and even less economical. You get less sweat, but prices have not compensated the reduced supply (yet).

Good thing is that the skill gains appear to have increased, so who knows…maybe there is now something like skill involved in this thing.

Taste it MA, here is a good one from Lavawalker :yay: +rep

Rapido

Tested the new system a bit. It looks ok. Haven’t done some intense sweating runs but that’s because i got used to focus charges - those interrupts annoy me. Speaking of that - the charging of the tool and the gathering process quite often fail just because the mob moved a bit or the avatar lost aim for some reason. Maybe i just need more practice

I agree:) Also at least this is sci-fi fits into the game.

I like the new system way better then the previous one.

It’s much less frustrating now to sweat, with higher success rate and lower bottles/pull.

The new sweating system is OK.

I liked the old way, had some fun times at Neas and with spiders:eek:

But i really enjoyed sweating last night, while i cooked some soup, and did some tidying up, and then sat and read a book, while sweating, and talking in soc chat.

Still have to be there, as the toggle auto use is a little ‘unpredicatable’ in how it works in relation to mobs moving, disconecting etc…

But on the whole i think it is OK. Hell it’s still free to do!

Stinky:yay:

Sweating is like’ milking a cow’ when you think of it.

After trying the new sweating technique, I have to say that this way is in two ways better than sweat gathering in version 9.44.

First off the system is more fair to sweaters as you have to try and get the “Scoop” (and yes the tool looks like a scoop) working in order to gather sweat. (Now on average I can get the scoop working about 1 in 10 times (and sometimes I can get 2 or even 3 pulls in a row).

Second is the fact that even though sweaters get a lower amount of sweat per pull (1-4 bottles) the tool never decays and thus you are really making profit from every pull (and considering that you can on average get 100-200 bottles per hour, that’s 0.60 to 1.20 PED per hour (in the old days you were lucky to get 200 sweat in an hour (and if you even did it with an Ambu), the cost would be only 25 Pec per hour.. a better return for the sweater overall

I like to cross compare sweating to something along the lines of “Milking a cow”. you keep going until the mob runs dry (or “the cow” stops giving milk) then you move on to the next mob (or “cow”) and do it again

All in all this system is much more fair and gives out skills appropriately for the sweat gatherer.

Also I like Lavawalker’s thinking about what future tools could be used for (Paintcans/pigments stone extraction, even lumbering from trees).

So yeah I think that the system is much more viable then the old “Song and Dance” routine ..

Now if they can only get focusing and healing back into play then the sweat gathering will be even more fair I feel.

Ben Coyote a.k.a. “The Blind Sniper”

I prefer the new system as each try goes more quickly. This makes swunting more attractive. You have a chance to get in three or four attempts before the mob starts to attack and then you have to kill it. The idea of using an extractor also fits in better with the way the rest ofEU works and thus introduces the basis of playing to to new players better than the previous method did.

IMHO the price will stabilise at around the 8/k mark

It seems to have stabilised around the 5/k mark so the price does not seem to have been affected much.

I don’t think it’s stabalized yet, from what I hear it’s hard to sell it at all. We won’t know how much it’s really worth until MF has completely returned.

With a better guide for noobs it’s great IMO. ATM you either have to get help from a fellow player or read up on it on the internet. This can be good to learn this way but not for such a basic thing as sweating…

There should be another poll option:

The old system was so horrible that anything would seem like a godsend.

The old way, I would make about 100/hour at Neas, and in a big group, we would dry out a mob before I could get a single pull. I remember many, many sub-20 hours of sweating. 1k in a day was an accomplishment.

Yesterday, I did 3k, and got 50 skill points.
