Christmas Ring 2016 effects, confirmed by MA?

On my searches about this ring, i have seen many posts on the +25% on rare thing, being only for SOOTO.

Is this confirmed by MA? And definitely not effecting normal mining at all?

0% increased by 25% is still 0%.

I’m not that much of a miner but have done a fair amount over the years, that said, I did mine quite extensively while using the Xmas16 ring, and got 0 SOOTO finds on Caly, I didn’t notice that much of a difference in treasure finds on Ark with or without, so unsure if its effected by that factor.

I also noticed no difference in material composition that I found from the ground, i.e. no increase in pyrite/redulite either.

on my humble opinion its vey hard to notice, … sootos have some randomness , on ark they are more frequent for sure.
price tag on ring if u plan to use it only for mining is insane.

I should have clarified, has MA confirmed this is only for SOOTO’s? Or does it also include rare ores as well?

Yes, this is what i was wondering .. as if it’s ONLY for SOOTO’s then not worth while as miner (imo)

Mindark never confirmed its function. Just threw the ring out and left us to guess if it is working or what it does.

That’s what I figured

Something to consider is that what are called “rare”, wave, gated, etc. resources weren’t really much of a thing when the ring was released, so if that functionality existed, it would be something tweaked after the mechanic had been released.

I do seem to recall there have been a post or part of the website just mentioning SOOTO only, but that was likely 8 years ago and buried or gone now.

I haven’t seen anything that would suggest it affected anything other than SOOTOs. Like others have said, I wouldn’t have bought mine if prices are what they are now, especially since it seems like UL amps don’t drop from SOOTO anymore.

That’s probably why it is only mentioned for SOOTO, if someone said that others assumed it to be true.
And, yeah, unlikely they tweaked it after ..

Other than the “skill gains”, Christmas ring price is largely due to the idea that they get more mining strongboxes and those gains, as Nana suggested, is miniscule. So unless you’re 3rd world mining all the time or botting, you’re not going to realize your investment.

I wonder if that includes the backpack on Cyrene won’t bother grinding for it if that’s the case.

I had no idea that existed. That’s 1% compared to 25% on the ring. If that’s on just SOOTO’s .. yeah not worth it

EDIT: although you do get an extra 15kg carrying capacity

The adj gives 4% sooto with +30kg and 10% mining skills. There’s also a possibility of improved or higher in future.

Would rather get the backpack there than paying 50k for a ring.

Would be of the most higher interest of Mindark to come and clarify this situation and others, for us players.

But no, here we are trying to guess if the item really have any effect at all. A lot of grey areas in this game. And then they wonder why they can’t bring more new players.

I very much doubt it has any effect on ores. The term rare is relative, lanorium used to be common and is now rare, platinum used to be 2000% but is now junk.

The exact text according to entropiawiki is, “Increase Rare Mining Finds” by 25%. I’m not a miner so take the following with a large bag of salt  My interpretation of that would be anything that is tagged as rare. So it may include ores, enmatter, items etc anything you get in mining but only those that have the rare tag attached to them. A bit like in hunting, sometimes you have really rare things drop but they don’t get the rare hof because no rare tag attached to them. I think it works like this because MA probably reuse the same code or mechanics from different professions.

In practice I doubt there will be many ores, or enmatter that are tagged as rare because those are going to change with time. From hunting we know MA make mistakes on tagging what should be rare, likewise it may also be true for mining.

This is just speculation, so I may be completely wrong.

If you over you mouse on resources like Xeremite or Zanderium it does say Rare. It only shows if it’s in raw mode, unrefined.

Lanorium ore doesn’t show Rare.

Here is what actually displays in the buff icon when you hover over it (I thought there was something extra in there):

It really only mentions the SOOTO language in that description, not SOOTO + other hard to find resources.

And if it did count towards rare materials like dunkel, etc. then some smuck would have bought up all the rings and tried selling them for 1M peds each.
