Here’s a link to a freeware root kit detection utility called RootkitRevealer. You’ll also find lots of useful information.
Change password asap. The clientloader is still unsafe, and the person who has your login info can check such things as despoithistory, CC info and irl adress, name and phonenumber -which can be used for identitytheft.
OMG Sam! I’m so sorry it happened, I’m glad your only locked and not ruined by this. whew…
kisses gold card
I’m sooooo happy Jessica reccomended me getting that Gold Card!
This brings up a point. Has anyone got a (near) bulletproof set up that they could talk about in general terms, to share what works for protecting a home network? I think I’m safe with my set up, but I’d like to know if I could make it better, or know if I’m missing something.
I am glad that nothing worse happened to you samweis. Good thing you had a gold card!
I have been impressing the need to get one to a few buddies irl as they have lots of valuable stuff. I got mine quite awhile ago, but only after having quite a scare.
Now if MA would only tie the card to the CLU, thereby protecting all your info.

I do not remember where i read about (this site?!), but I think that $sony$ thing was installed from sony media cds (like songs or movies) as a way to protect them against piracy. doubt they have anything to do with a sony digicam. maybe I am wrong..
Hi! Since it is your own responsibility to protect your self against such attacks there is not much we can do to assist you in this matter. We can only advice you to turn to your local police and report this matter. When they contact us, we will supply them with any information needed to solve this case. We advice you to protect your system better in future. The first step will be to install a firewall and scan your computer for viruses and other suspect programs. After that, change your password, this is done by reactivating your account at the website. For total safety consider buying a Gold Member Card.

Its true that its only there music CDs. Its not even all of them and they have stopped putting them on the newest batches.
The intended purpose of there rootkit is to block attempts to rip the cds. And if the rootkit is disabled, it will block the computer from reading any Sony BMG cds. With that said and the reason over the big hubub of the rootkits is that it stealthed its checking process, and some hackers found that they can use this stealthing for there own purposes (ie, running malicious code without AV software being able to detect it)
Last I heard, some retailers were going to start offering replacement non-rootkitted cds for no charge (how nice  )
