I had almost given up crafting and only been using what i mined myself for some months now, but with this showing i can HoF in crafting again i might craft some more.

It has always been this way.
The gemstones you get mainly depend on the value of your HoF, and the loot is random
Garnet = 150 PED
Opal = 200 PED
Emerald = 300 PED
Ruby = 400 PED
Diamond = 500 PED
You can only get gemstones while crafting items. Components get you huge piles instead.
