Would you want people to know how much you play Entropia?

Hey all,
Been thinking a lot of late about the ideas of fame and reputation in Entropia. We all know theres no rep system of course but people manage to become well known by either talking to people a lot in game or getting involved with the community externally on the forums and such like.

But the forums of course have their own advertised level of fame for each player. On EF for example, to start with theres the number of posts, then we have the level, health bar, reputation, fame, and globals that allow us to make an instant assesment of what type of player we are looking at.

So I got to thinking what other types of information would be useful and was wondering what people would think of having something like ā€œnumber of hours in gameā€ up alongside their posts as surely this is one of the best indicators of ā€œubernessā€ so to speak? Problem is of course I can’t help feeling that might be somewhat of an invasion of privacy as I imagine some people really wouldn’t want everyone to know how ā€œbadā€ their habit is. I guess it could always be optional of course…

Still, its all speculative given MA don’t make this sort of information available but what do you think?

Would you want people to know how much you play entropia? :tongue2:

Not a very good indicator if you ask me. I know people who have been in the game for 1 month and know a lot. I also know people who played for 2 years, and don’t know much at all.

There really is no proper indication if you ask me. It’s the same like driving. I’ve had my license for 10 years+ and am on the road a lot. I consider myself to be a good driver. I know people who have had their license many years more, who I refuse to get in the car with. I know truck drivers (tons of hours, lots of experience) who I would consider bad drivers. And Kimi Raikonen is a heckuva better driver than I am, despite him being younger than me, and probably having driven less miles than me.

Its not a bad analogy the driving thing but I wasn’t suggesting how long you have been registered as a player as an indicator rather the actual number of game hours you have racked up.

e.g. I’ve been about on Calypso for a year but I imagine a keen new player could top my game time in under a month - heh probably a week :silly2:

With the driving analogy I’d like to hope the more you drive the better you get at it. However it might not be true. With gaming though where surely the only point of playing is to ā€œbetter yourselfā€? The more you play the better you get, even if you only spend that time talking to people. You can’t idle in game anymore so its not like people could rack up hours standing around just to ā€œscoreā€ higher in that sence.

You’ve made a good point though, theres not just a privacy issue here but also the question of whether anybody would care

Mmm…
thats like my mom.. she’s been driving for 25 years… (and still hasnt got it right)…and never been in an accident…(but caused 53)…

Just a little off topic. Kimi is a better racing driver than you. It has nothing to do with his ability to drive a car on the road. Don’t forget, he has cars coming the other way when he is on the road but none when racing and people always think racing drivers are better drivers.

I dont mind ppl knowing how long I do mind ppl who play other games knowing about the beauty product stuff, how barbie can u get lol

OK so to reiterate, would you a) care if there was info displayed in forums about how long you play for or b) actually want there to be?

nice wistrel, i see peeps many times ingame that say ā€œoh u have skills, i thought u were just a forum poster?ā€

sori I got the wrong idea

I’d not mind and would like it there, I’m actually quite proud to have only played for about 8 months and have the skills I have now

i completely agree with this cookie selling thingy man.
the time playing does not say annything.
some people are so terrible that i think by myself do some people have brains at all.
and iff i explane it they still don’t get it or the forget the next day.
like people who don’t understand that if they trade me without asking or talking before, that i don’t react on the inventation.
some even try 30 times in a row .
and the worst of all they don’t understand that i get mad about it.
and tell them after 5 times to get to f*ck off.

some are soooooooooooo stuppid.

sorry for saying.

I think its a good idea. Could be fun

Personally I am not interested in how many hours people play and I would mind if this was shown for me…

It’s noone’s business when I play, how I play and how long I play. Same as it is noone’s business what amount of money I have on my bank account

If someone asks… that’s a different matter, then I have a choice whether or not to answer ( and whether or not to tell the truth  ).

Just a matter of privacy, what little is left of that in this world of keeping tracks and keeping statistics

But I’m sure MA can cough up total online time etcetera’s. I would like it, if I could see that somewhere for myself though…

I’ve heard that Xfire will be supporting Preoject Entropia sometime int he future. Check on their site and in the forums though, as I’m not positive.

Hmm interesting-
Well, we could see when ppl began playing, but as has been stated that in itself can be rather useless trivia b/c it does not really tell us much other than when they started their avi. I know ppl that have been in game 3 yrs but took a year off. Or ppl that have been in game 6 months but play every single day for 8 hours
As for hours per week or something, that also varies considerably. Personally, I play most often during winter months as do many peeps so my hours vary depending upon the season and my rl :girl:

 Some good opinions here on this one. Svet. I guess if such info were available its not a giant leap of imagination to add some more eg:

ā€œWistrelā€
Arrived Calypso: xx/xx/2004
total Hours: 411
hours last week: 0
Average hours per week: 2.4
Last connection: 12/06/2005

Gives some better idea of player activity over both the long AND the short term. I know some people say you could rack up hours and hours without getting ā€œbetterā€ but I can’t really believe that. Besides its just a stat. A player with 5 globals isn’t always better than one with 2 - just luckier!

As regards privacy I guess there could be an option to not display any game play stats. It certainly shouldn’t be default

incidentally I actually have 1 global but I didn’t take a screen shot so no one believes me  Stats don’t proove anything but they are kinda fun

Tar for this - its interesting to see what they do. In relation to this thread they allow you to have signature images that display your game play stats as has been discussed here.

I had a look for support of project entropia. Theres a LOT of threads with more or less the same 3 people saying they want PE support but couldn’t see anything that indicates it will actually happen.

I’m guessing they need permission from each game company to include support for it or maybe even some way of interfacing to the game itself. In any case, somehow I doubt MA are in any hurry to let such a big third party company log their users

Incidentally, they are also being sued by yahoo

http://news.com.com/Yahoo+sues+Xfire+for+patent+infringement/2100-1047_3-5564179.html

I had a read and it does sound like basically they are completely ripping off an idea that yahoo had ages ago.

The complaint describes the Yahoo Messenger instant-message service–in this case, the GameProwler instant messenger application–as one that ā€œallows users to use a game server in connection with a messenger server to permit ā€˜buddies’ to know when other ā€˜buddies’ are playing games online, and easily join such games.ā€

From reading the description of x-fire on their website, as far as I can tell, the above description is exactly what xfire does! :wise:

hehe I dont even wonna know for myself how much I play  and Im not brave enough to look at My Deposits… I know I have been spending too much money on PE and when people ask me how much I have used till now, I answer something like 1/4 of what I have acturly spend
Im add addicted lol. but its okay as long I dont get a negative bank account..

I like that idea. then there should be a link to it in the ā€œkā€ menu next to background with the same choice about if you wonna display it or not.

No matter how often you play, just play well and wisely, and have fun

I personally would not mind people to know this, I am not playing much at all (probably less than 1000 hours in three years  ) and spending most of my time on forums, looking for theories, charts, stats…
