Wide-World of MMORPG's

Hi all-
Most ppl I know also know that PE was my first mmorpg (yes, PE is my Little Tykes if you will of the online role playing world). Currently we also have SWG. Some things I love about SWG, some things I don’t care for at all.

I read once on EP that the average life-span of an avatar on PE was nearly double the avg. span on other games…
Soooo, I’m interested in knowing how long all of you guys have played PE vs. other games you have played… and what keeps you coming back.

For me… the socialization is big. I know so many ppl that I really think of as friends.
I also prefer the style of hunting in PE vs. in SWG or others… I can’t stand that auto-hunting crap that most other games seem to use.
And money? Well, it is nice that I decide when i wish to deposit… but we all know the money debates so I won’t get into that.

Anyway- just wondering… pls pls pls I don’t intend for this thread to become all negatives… I really just want to hear the positive things that you like about PE :girl:
Cheers guys

I started 2 years ago when I got a new computer after a few years of not having one. Got back on the internet and went to Undernet IRC my old stomping grounds. Met some guys from around the globe, one guy who was russian but lives in deleware not far from me, another a chick in Australia. After a month of talking with them I noticed they spoke of something called PE. I was like WTf is PE? They said is was a 3D virtual online game that was free to DL and play. I was like cool I’ll check it out, figuring if nothing else a realy cool 3D chat client. That was free.
So I DL it, couldn’t login… waited few days, couldn’t login, then I was able to login a few times (this was VU 4.2) after a few weeks of logging in occassionaly all of a sudden I couldn’t get back in, seemed it was always down for like a month so I gave up. Then I desided to try again. This tiem was better and I wanted to play as my friends did. The chick from aussie has shadow armor and ML-35 and Adj V1 if I remeber right. So I deposited 100$ bught one of everything from TT and continued on. One day we went hunting Umbra she told me to stand back or I’de die. Stand back? F that I wanna kill kill! I died!
After another month I desided OK time to play hardcore I continued and slowly bought shadow angel parts and a MK5.
After about another month I ran into a guy named Wind, uber trader who did nothing else but buy and sell uber gear. With his help and high cost I continued to buy and increase my gear. Now after 2 years I stand here with…
Mod Fap
Mod Merc
Full shadow
M71a1
Full Thunderbird
Hanger
and a misc of alot of other crap
I love this game
Oh it’s the only MMORPG I’ve ever played

Sadly I think the reason why people play PE longer than other MMORPGs is that they try and earn back the hundreds of dollars lost from bad loots or bad trades

Nothing in the world can make me stop playing SWG now when I got my Jedi :evilking:

Must say the Galactic Conquest system and overall PVP scene in SWG is fun,if your declared faction member you can PVP anywhere in the world if you run into opposing declared faction members (filthy rebels)

And I dont understand why some people main reason for playing PE is profit,I have spent 100usd in montly fees in SWG and my account is worth over 1000usd if I would sell it but since its not allowed and I have to much fun I wont

PE was my first too  I played Lineage 2 Beta and uh… Ive just tried some games thats all really.. I mean thats MMORPG’s.
Ive been ingame now since december 03 I belive. Or late November, not quite sure. Anyway.. Since then Ive been pretty much hooked…

great things about PE?
-Its not dark and depressingly “fantasyish” like every other MMORPG’s..
-The scenery. One minute your walking earth, 200 yars ahead your on mars. Or venus. Or a blue paradise youve dreamt of once.
-The social… Making connections here are easy and fun.
-The professions.. everything is connected, with who provides what. And the hidden professions as trader’s and community relations
-That you play the avatar itself, not just play “god” over it. you shoot every shot, its up to you not just skills if you die or not. and that means ALOT for the gameplay!

If your having fun and enjoy it, thats all that matters
In the end, with PE, dont’ spend more then you can afford to loose :wise:

PE was also my first MMORPG. I was attracted to it because it was free and you only needed to deposit if and when you’re so inclined. That was a year ago this month and I’ve loved (almost) every minute of it. Since then I’ve tried several others…Lineage 2 beta, Anarchy Online, Face of Mankind and I am currently taking part in the Guild Wars beta. Some things I like and some I don’t. I’ll be purchasing Guild Wars when it goes live but, it’ll really only be a backup for PE. I look at PE as a social outlet and not just a game. The people I play with totally rock and I meet new people all the time. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to completely leave…we’ll see.

Yes- I also love the atmosphere and graphics of PE… much more realistic looking imo too.
I like how we can choose ANY and ALL professions that we wish, not just one or two, as well :girl:

Great Topic!
Well this is pretty much my first MMORPG. Started looking into the genre only around Christmas of last year after finally getting Broadband connected.

I was keen to try online gaming as I am a pretty avid airsofter and looked into MMORPGs after half my Airsoft team ( www.waspteam.co.uk ) seemed to have dissapeared into SWG! After making fun of my team mates for spending so much time on line I thought I may as well give it a go!

I played Anarchy Online for a while because it was free, but heard about Project Entropia from a BBC article on the sale of Treasure Island and so decided to try. I suppose I have now well and truly got the Bug!

I feel PE is quite a sophisticated concept, and I am very inspired by it’s vision, also appealing is the fact that it doesn’t seem to be dominated by 14 year olds and has a good mix of male and female gamers. Graphically it is quite beautiful and the new features promised sound great, though I am at a loss to understand why Mindark can’t put dates on their roadmap

The nerd in me likes to pour over charts and try to calculate the best return for my PEDs, but one of the attractions is the fact that the rules are not transparent, but instead they are constantly evolving, so it is up to us the players to communicate our findings with one another through societies and community forums like this one.

A major plus is the friendliness and helpfulness of the online community here!

Cheers everyone!

the whole first week of playing pe i was iffy. i didnt want to deposit

(ive never paid for software in my life. =/ thats just how it is.)

i didnt even know if i wanted to play the game.. it was buggy at the time (5.6? a vu or two before disciple/mentor was introduced) and i really didn’t LOVE the game..

but then i started travelling as a ghost collecting the teleports.. sure id set myself on a destination and let it go.. but then i’d sit back and watch and smoke .. a cigarette .. and just enjoy the scenery. (every so often my ghost would still get stuck on a land-glitch, so id have to readjust it) ..

getting all those tp’s i learned the geography, terrain, and mobs of eudoria (which was all of calypso at the time. in a much bigger more detailed map. now its teeny-tiny. =( ) .. i was an explorer. i didnt know anyone, i didnt linger long in the towns. i didnt bother with sweating until i had all 32? tps. i studied each mob up close without fear of dying (i was already dead) .. zoomed in and studied the graphics.. i was a scientist exploring alien life.

that is what struck me about pe.. that is what convinced me to stay.. being an explorer. so i got enough sweat for a d1 and 100 ammo, some snables died, i was lucky enough to get generic hide, snable hide, wool and pec.. all kinds of colorful things flashed up..

so i checked the deposit costs.. and chose the maximum available deposit for the lowest service charge.. ($30 usd i believe?) .. then $100 followed, then another.. and $230 is all ive ever spent. and in that time i’ve just seen the game fall. =/

no longer pretty colorful loots. no longer being able to ‘explore’ the new continent at my leisure. i look at all the screenshots on THIS forum, and they’re all just .. 900ped. in ped. 200 ped, in ped. =/

so i wont play again until the screenshots are full of colorful shiny things. n thats that.

there svet. good things, n bad things. almost properly formatted even.

“The longer you play PE, the more you love it, yet ironically hate it.” – Jacob Jake Fireblaze (old friend/socmate of mine)

that is the most true quote for PE i have ever seen… and i stand by it too :stuck_out_tongue:

i love PE… nice graphics, awesome community, and just a friendly atmosphere

i hate PE… costs quite alot of real $ to get good, lots of time needed

and because i love it and hate it, i am eternally bound to it

recently a few friends of mine got me playing Everquest 2, and i must say… PE is nothing compared to it…lot better gameplay, QUESTS!!! :D, and it doesnt dig your wallet as much

and its just as addicting, if not more

What I love about PE is the community. The money system is interesting/unique and neccesary in the way this community works. It scares off the annoying little kids.
I’ve been in very few games with good communitys and still they don’t compare by far.
I’ve been through so many MMORPG’s, I gave my list of played games to Svetlana yesterday and I belive she called me a freak or something along those lines.

Also I love how you get to know and build up the same character for years and not just make a new one every couple months to keep the game fun/interesting. If you want to use Mindforce you don’t have to make a Mindforce character… you just go and use it and get better at it on your current character!
Also it’s nice seeing the same names around for a long time past and hopefully a long time to come. Like Faustian, Leafren, Deathifier, Knuckles even, LoL.

I think I can honestly say if it was not for the respected and trusted players and PE community base PE would of died a year ago :wise:
But this is just me Opinion
MA.. Marco read and learn :wise:

My RPGs:

Tibia - played a mercenary in black. 1 year. 1999-2000. Got bored, pwed everything.

Wizards World - 1 year. 2000-2001 Got bored.

Illarion (illarion.org) - 2 years. 2002-2004. Played human thief/assassin. Became the game’s most wanted badass baddie criminal, and quit because of poor Roleplay. Being one of the best ad creative players, when I quit, half the strong RPers quit, destroying Illarion and bringing it to its knees.

Ultima Online - still playing since Oct 30, 2004. Rogue/thief/assassin. I’m attached to the character. But UO is a lot like PE - death comes at no skill loss. Hence, no frustration.

PE - since January 11, 2004. Less attached to Konrad, since he is really independant from me, while being a part of me.

Why return to PE?

Most outstanding graphics? Nah, not really, but hey, the most outstanding graphics that can run on my crappy PC? Yup!

Friends? yup! Big factor.

PE is not a game for me. It’s like a second life that Konrad leads whether I’m there or not. He still exists on the server, doing his thing. We just meet sometimes and I take over his life.

I play Ultima more often than PE, because gear is free there, and money is easy to get, so I can hunt all I want. I like to hunt and loot.
But UO doesnt give me nearly half the gaming thrill PE does.

I can leave Konrad for a month, without logging in, I still feel like I’m playing PE, even afk. I know I got auctions going, etc. I talk to PE friends on forums and over messengers, keeping contact.

PE is a more realistic RPG, modern. I like the savage feeling of a man running the field with the big gun. Anyone who been hunting IRL will understand me.
It’s the feeling.

Uuuh, ya so that’s it.

I tried Ragnarok, Helbreath and some other (cant seem to remember its name) before PE.

When I got into PE it was love with first sight  No more little kids with only goal to be more powerful and kill other players but much more mature players and many of those who arent all about shooting and killing. PE also offers challenge.

Im currently playing Anarchy Online too and I dont really get whats the challenge there. Also there sociality seems to play much lesser role. There’s some kind of crafting too but mostly among the friends all stuff is just given away since money dont matter, equipment dont matter (especially if everyone have different profession) etc. People play with multiple avatars and seem to think their avatars as tokens - not really committing themselves.

I think the big thing in PE is the real money economy. Because we have limited resources, our items and success mean much more to us. Things in game do have importance. No other game so far has managed to do same. Failing bothers more, but succeeding also gives more. I cant image what I would have to loot in any other game that I could live again the feeling I had when I got my first global. I doubt any loot in Anarchy Online could ever mean even anything close to it.

And as backround information I started PE almost two year ago. I have kept couple breaks but never claimed to quit. And always when I have come back I have found PE getting a bit better (for me its not what uber item dropped back then).

Many say in negative tone that “PE is expensive chatroom” but personally I havent found any other game where I actually would think about logging in just to chat with people. That tells something about PE and its players IMO.

Nice Maniac and Essi :girl:

Something ocurred to me while I was chatting a friend in game… PE is a lot like real life … the more I know, the less I actually know
This can be frustrating, but it just always keeps me going looking for those answers :girl:

Couldn’t have said it better myself

The friends and people I’ve met are an important factor and the link to real life dollars makes this game more challenging then other roleplaying games in my opinion. So I guess your achievements are really connected to this.

Been playing for over two years now and I’ve seen many people come and go (and come back again). Never played any other MMORPG yet and I doubt it will happen any time soon.

I’m smitten

I belive that you character is more closely linked to you in PE then in any other mmorpg.
Even thou I played DAOC for about 2 years and finally got my lvl 50 runie (who I had some great times with) I had no problem selling my account the week after.

That’s one important aspect. And that is why we need homes, clothes etc. So we can make our chars even more individual.

I like PE becuase at the moment it has the best character development system available in any online game imo.

Thats very true.

I havent seen any other game having this kind of appearance control as PE has. In many other games avatars are just selections of ready made faces etc.

Also clothing in PE is couple steps ahead most games.

As result every avatar is unique and easily reflect player much more than in any other game. In PE avatars truly are avatars of players in the real meaning of the word (an embodiment, as of a concept or philosophy, often in a person).

Very true

played PE since 4.2 .. some 3 years ago i think…

Tried SWG for about.. uhm… 30 min.. not my coup of tea.. lol…

To many NPC’s for my taste…

Also.. There seems to be a storyline you have to follow.. I like that PE is up to your self…
