Whenabouts should i get a new gun?

when should i get a new gun? ive got a jester d-1 right now, and i dont think im all that skilled in anything (131 in rifle is the highest i have). I cant really find anything that tells me when i should upgrade tho.

I’d wait until at least 500 in Rifle to get anything bigger. You’re doing well, though.

ok sounds good. what should i get then?

Dont believe that you need xxxx skills to use gun yyyy BS! Buy a gun you like if you can afford it AND if you can afford potential loses using that gun. Remember that with a gun like Camo Arms Jungle Stalker you can spend 1000 peds in about 3 hours and get 50% return if you didnt get a good loot. If you dont have enough peds to cover loses in bad period you will most likely just lose them all and end up depositing more and more.

Actually, I believe why most people generally suggest waiting until skill level XXX for weapon YYY. That way, you have enough of a basic concept and understanding to use the weapon at more than just base efficiency. If a weapon has a massive decay rate and ammo cost, even if I really like it, I’m going to be sure to try and make every shot as cost effective as possible, so I don’t have to keep depositing more and more just to keep up with costs. Just my :twocents:.

The thing is, Pham, if you wait until 500 in Rifle before you get a new gun, you’ll know that much more about the universe than you did when you had 100 skill, and will be better suited to making decisions about what weapon types you’ll use.

That’s a good question! It’s really up to you. You can decide how much ammo you’d like to use per shot and how much damage you’d like to be able to do - and hence how much money you’ll need to invest. I’d say at 500 Rifle something like an A&P Series Brave or a Sollomate Tasmo might be appropriate.

About guns

The thing with weapons is that you wont be able to use them to the fullest effect when you have low skills or even with very high skills. However youll use it MORE effectively with more skills.
There is 3 things i would consider if i was a noob that wanted new guns;

  • Ammo and decay (Damage per pec)
  • Damage and learning bonus
  • What mobs you hunt
This becayse the ammo and decay cost increase with a bigger gun.
The damage the gun deliver enable you to hunt bigger pray.
The learning bonus increase your skillgain
The bigger mobs you hunt the more skillgain

So basically, a bigger gun will cost more to use, but will also yield more skills if you hunt mobs that is suitable for the size of the gun, and for me an increased skillgain alone would be worth the extra cost to use the gun. Ive actually played a bit with a n00b avatar and have been using an EP-45 with a106 amp since it had about 500 handgun levels and the skillgain has been pretty damn good. I have of course paid more in ammo and decay than neccesary (with a noob you wont do a high average damage), but i have also gained skills much faster than i would with a smaller gun.
Id say get the gun you want, when you like, if you can afford it, but consider the cost both to BUY and to USE the gun…
The first gun id suggest after D-1 is Mk.II..

Good luck

Jester D-1 to Justifier Mk.II? That’s a real big jump. From 2 ammo burn to…what is it…10? What about all the other guns in between? I don’t think at 500 Rifle skill a person is suited to handle a 10 ammo burn weapon.

I say start at the bottom and work your way up one step at a time. Try out a variety of weapons less intense than the Mk.II before you make the jump. Diversify your arsenal.

I went to ML35 at 800 Rifle… wasted a ton of money (mostly because of stupid aiming bug etc)…but my skills jumped in rifle really fast…
It all depends on what you’re willing to spend…and which one armed bandit do you want to play on? Do you want to play on the 10cent one or the $2 one?
