When is the HoF born?

as i stand at the edge of a herd of mobs, i think to myself, “okay, which one of you worthless beasts is the HoF?”, but the truth is, i don’t think the HoF exists until i loot the dead mob.

do you think the HoF is determined the instant you click on a carcass for looting? or is it born with the mob when it is spawned?

even though i think the way i do, it doesn’t stop me from choosing one mob over another on the radar for some stupid reason i think up in my head of why it is going to have a better loot.

so, what do you think and what strange things do you do when hunting that lead you to that ped filled carcass?

Basicly your asking if the hof is in the avatar or in the mob, a well discussed issue

Well, I belive its in the avatar: https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193

If its in the mob… well then KS’ers have a point in KSing.. But I dont belive its like that

  1. I KSed, and sometimes got up to 10 peds out of those mobs. That means if the Hof is NOT in the mob, but instead in the avatar - that people I KS from were mistakenly killing MY hof mob. If HOF is in the mob - then it’s simpler - I KSed a hofing mob.

  2. HOF is in Lootius! Do you pray to Lootius every single day when you go hunting? The one who says Lootius’s Name with a smile on their face - HOFs for sure within a week. The one who drinks for Lootius - never returns from a hunt empty handed.

I think the loot is in the mob or at least I hope it is so because if not then getting a HOF is not all about luck but more about how much u have deposited

Not… necessarily…

what i am asking is a little different. does a mob have a set amount it is going to drop at the point it is spawned, or is it an empty recepticle until you go to loot it?

in a mechanical sense, is there a value (not loot amount, but some piece of a formula) set when the mob spawns, or is it a value that is generated when it is looted?

Well there is the question: If it has a set amount then its the mob that “contains” the hof.
If its a empty recepticle then its the about who is looting it, alias its in the avatar not the mob.

I belive it is as you say:
“or is it a value that is generated when avatar X loots it”

sorry, i changed the post you are referring too as you were posting!

i didn’t mean to say avatar X…

i guess i am prescribing to the theory that it is not in the avatar. everyone that thinks it is in the avatar can still play along, but you can’t mention it anymore  .

if it is in the mob, the question is, when is it in the mob? when it spawns, or after it dies and is looted?

We have pretty strong evience that loot is calculated at looting time and dependant on time and place, possibly by mobtype too.

yup. Its the same with mining - the one time i ever liked lag was when you could tell whether or not you had hit - even though the message took 4 hours to come up  proving it was server side calculation and client side deposit finding:

I dropped bomb, if no deposit, then instant message saying no-loot. I dropped another bomb, deposit, message took hours to come up.. therefore, the lag came when the client was negotiating how much this deposit was…

So it totally blows open the theory of deposits (and mobs - MA are lazy like that) ‘holding’ hofs.. Yes, deposits have flags client-side, but mobs are fully serverside calc’s.

Well we will never know.. and even If someone knew they wouldnt tell anybody

Whiz from Desert Rangers had the loot system for a while. He globaled like 30+ times a day. But then MA changed it :frowning:

I kinda dubt that.. I think he only hunted alot  but who knows

I firmly belive that loot size (ped value) is determined when the mob spawns. The items it contains is picked at loot.

But noone knows, there is no way to test or evaulaute this claim, or anyone elses. Only mindark knows.

proably true.
about items; everytime I get a loot with lots of items it laggs like hell when I press loot … meaning the server is proably generating the items

I could of swore Marco said once the loot wasn’t generated untill you click on it to loot it.
Prodiq once said. “You do not loot an uber, the uber loots you” :wise:
After selling Imp MK2 and days later loot the Mod mk2

I remember Marco saying something like that too…

If mobs would carry peds around then quite a lot of peds of PE would be tied to mobs which are not even likely to get killed.

Loot is created the moment you press right click on a mob. Someone on the EP forums posted a support case about non lootable mobs due to the server boarder bug. The loot couldn’t be refunded because it does not exist until you have looted the mob.

No really this is true…a couple of ppl ‘had it sussed’

One guy Quit PE altogether after a big VU change as he spent all his time purely doing the math and then when it changed he ranted on EP about MA being chaotic and the new Hunting sux…

Like many says its all time/area based…but also dependant on the loot pool for that mob/area i believe…

when i used to see ppl global 35+ times a day including about 3 hofs…its more than simply ‘hunting a lot’ or ‘luck’
