Not read Terry Brooks for a while, but really enjoyed “The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara” - took me back to “The Sword/Wishsong/Elfstones”
I also liked his “Magic Kingdom For Sale” series - was very odd (a bit like me )
I havn’t read any Brooks or McCaffrey in a looooong time. Never read any of those. I’ll have to pick them up. I’m a little odd too. :beerchug: I forgot to mention:
Frank Herbert - The Dune series is very intense. Don’t go by the movie!
Heheh I have the Dune Books, the David Lynch Film, and the Sci-Fi channels version of the film (oh, and Emperor: Battle for Dune for PC)
I havn’t seen the SciFi Channel one yet but, Dad has it on DVD. I heard it was pretty good.
Wow- most every1 reads sci-fi!!! Why am I not surprised :laugh: I guess I am one of the loners then. I have read a few sci-fi, but ages ago… since I found Nietzhe, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, etc, I haven’t looked back 
But I can see the fun in fantasy, esp if it’s well done… very similar to PE
I think the nearest I get to reading sci-fi is Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy :laugh: so we can be loners together Sveta 
I guess I read to escape reality. I see books and movies and video games as 3 versions of the same thing. A movie is for when you don’t feel like thinking. You get swepped away to another time or world but, all your thinking is done for you with special effects and such. A book is a movie that goes on for a long time. Especially when you’re reading a series of books. However, the world and the characters are all in your head. You see them as you wish and that makes you a part of that world more so than in a movie. Now a video game…that’s a movie that you can actually control the outcome of. Some of your thinking is done for you but, your actions dictate the plot to a certain degree. PE is that and more! There is no plot. It’s contantly evolving. It’s what you make of it. I think that’s why it’s so popular and why people are so into it.

As an Objectivist with children, I think I can answer that:
For me, it doesn’t change the philosophy, but I do think it would affect the presentation.
My philosophy was formed long before I read any Rand. After reading Atlas Shrugged (less than a year ago) I basically said “Hey, someone gets it!”
I have always maintained that people are bascially selfish. When you get right down to it, everything you do is for your own benefit - no matter how selfless it appears. Objectivist philosophy simply acknowledges that.
What’s missing in Rand’s writings (what I’ve read so far) is a more thorough understanding of the power of emotion as a motivating factor. Much of our apparent selfless acts are motivated by how we feel about doing or not doing the act in question. When you have children, you begin to understand that power.

I did a very in-depth study on the Arthurian legend for a literature term paper. IMO, Lawhead’s presentation makes more sense than most tellings that I’ve read, as far as remaining true to the underlying history and facts surrounding the myth. Certainly better than Mallory. 
Heh - my daughter’s name is Amber. We lost a great writer when Zelazney died. I was really looking forward to the rest of the Amber story, especially to see what happened when Corwin went off exploring the other Pattern.
BTW - thanx for the heads-up about the new Covenant book. I’d be curious to see where he goes from where it ended! But I have to say I liked Mirror of her Dreams better.
A Man Rides Through and A Mirror of Her Dreams were very good also..you’re right about that. I have the new Covenant book but, I havn’t read it yet. There are also some new Amber novels written by John Gregory Betancourt. I got the 1st one, The Dawn of Amber: Roger Zelazny’s Dawn of Amber. It’s pretty good.

i loved thoses books the TV show was a real let down though
