Edit: First of all I would like to apologize to everyone who I spouted foul language towards completely uncalled for. I had a bit too much to drink and a horrible day.
So to clarify my point further:
A portable auction (For placing bids and orders) would benefit everyone except auction hawks and auction bots. There are a ton of novelty items for instance that people would perhaps like to bid on but they don’t want to take an hour out of their day. Actual players would be able to place bids and auction would actually be auction, and not just a store like it is now.
I believe that not only would it be an improvement in everyone’s QoL but also have a positive impact on everyone’s finances. It would also make the repetetive grind go faster when you can browse stuff inside the game moving focus from outside the game into it.
There is nothing but upside to it. In the example provided below I would have gotten more money, Tees would have gotten a fun sword and more money would be put into the economy.
As of right now auction is used by very few. Do you want to skip a full mission to maybe get something 5 ped cheaper? No.
We had portable terninals for over a decade. Why don’t we have a portable auction to place bids and orders?
This has been suggested time after time after time again, it would be great QoL but also improve the economy.
Since it hasn’t been implemented despite meaning bigger cycle for MA (For instance a year ago I sold an Arcspark and @TeesMaarKhan wanted to bid but didn’t have time) I can only assume this is in order to cater to certain players. The difference would have been put into the economy rather than withdrawn when I assume it probably was resold at a later point.
I just want to know why.
Edit: Paragraph horribly formated, please read slow and reread.
One of my favorite games of the past was Silk Road , which used portable shop carts that you could instantly list items you were carrying and set up shop anywhere.
This made for some interesting market places.
Well, that case, why not just make ALL terminals right-click accessible, no matter where you are?
[ul]
[li]Out in the field and ran outta ammo? No need to go into town, just rick click terminals->trade terminal[/li][li]Armor getting over-chomped? terminals->repair[/li][li]Mining and forgot your gun? terminals->auction[/li][li]Then of course when chased in lootable PVP, place your loot into terminals->storage[/li][/ul]
Never need to come into town. Ever. Stay away. Forever.
Yeah honestly we dont need more tools to avoid trading/resupply hubs, give everyone tools to never come back and the place would feel 5x more lifeless than it already does. As much as i love portable units they shouldnt exist.
Your request was for portable access to bids and orders, but your reason invoked a broader class of design you called QOL also encompassing the affordances of those other portable terminals. I think what JohnCapital was trying to get across is that granting portable access to everything in that broader class at no or ignorably low cost would trivialize the concept of locality (there would be little reason to occupy towns, shop at malls, factor geography or distance from outposts into routing decisions, collect Teleporters, etc.), and that your reasoning proves too much because it is insufficiently narrowly tailored to avoid the threat of justifying portable access to everything in the broader class.
Portable TT already exist. Portable repair already exist. They add decay and value to stackables required to craft them. Its a good addition to the game.
Portable auction would be a nice addition, even if you have to visit town or storage to go claim the item you bought. (no posting of items → need to be at an auctioneer for that obviously)
Why do you feel a need to go to one of the 100s of towns that exist, when most of them are already empty/no players in them? Like one of the many never used outposts
we do have AI npcs standing around in town - we do need to visit those.
aborting a hunt just because someone places a bid on an item is counter productive though allow us a portable auction, where we can view items and where we can place bids. When won, we have to go claim the item. Simple, and i’d use one for sure - as long as decay is similar to the portable tt and repair.
Its one of the things thats for sure. But the idea is if we just convert everything into terminals over time then the universe will seem empty as fuck as you will have 90% less people in towns as there would be basicly no need to. I would rather come back after each hunt to unload and resupply and see a thriving player base all doing their own thing in towns and supply stations. This is already such a solo experience of a game as is.
