What have you learnt from your time in EU?

I was thinking about this anyway, but a new question about what skills we are ‘supposed’ to learn has prompted me (if that’s a thing for sentient lifeforms too).

I’ve learnt:

  • a lot about balance, and when it is lacking how it can really be a pain.
  • some stuff about statistics.
  • how good ideas can be poorly implemented.
  • how near and yet far from the mark other humans can be with their opinions.
  • about the Dunning-Krüger effect to a higher degree than in other areas of my life.
  • about how poor so many software tools are - developed by the few for the millions who have far better ideas but not the means, capacity, drive etc. to get them implemented.

I’ve got more… about myself, others, society etc., but how about you? Does EU still enable learning the way it used to, do you think?

For me, its never been as fun as it is now, I feel like I have learned in the last 2 years more than I have in all the previous years playing it (Since late 2004).

I would say it made me more financially educated in RL, something I never had by default just living, and it made me more interested in economics, investing and understanding money in general, for me, skills and habits from the game almost directly influence quality of life and retirement plans in RL.

It also taught me patience and I think some wisdom in dealing with all kinds of situations in RL.

Some friendships I made and continue making in game are something I will treasure till the day I die. Others might have Facebook, Tiktok, Insta whatever, for me EU is my social network. It taught me not to underestimate anyone, being persistent in what you think works, realizing and admitting to myself that sometimes something just doesn’t work the way I envisioned it and learning that its ok for plans not to work out as long as I learn from it and apply and refine the knowledge gained.

It taught me that positivity goes a long way in life in general.

Also, as you said, math, statistics, and how to apply them.

I never was a huge hunter / miner / and especially crafter, but I like to think that I’m doing just fine in the little chunk of the game I interact with.

I’m kind of thrown off by your statement “if that’s a thing for sentient lifeforms too”, this feels like a thing AI would say, but whatever, all of use are influenced by it every day one way or another, so if you are an AI, I welcome you to our little theme park.

Great topic, I’m also curious what others have to say.

Entropia Universe helped me manage my money a lot better in real life and I’m still learning today with putting Savings in the real life bank and having an emergency fund in my bank account and investments in real life like pensions / or 401k and Income related stocks / ETF’S and bonds and things like that and never spending beyond what i need and learning the value of money

I’m also learning to do this in Entropia Universe also like having emergency funds in game and savings in game and investments such as deeds shares in game and only doing activities in game that fits my budget like hunting low level Level 15 mobs and under and the odd one or 2 higher mobs when my budget allows.

That “next week” really is at least eight months ahead and customers are completely fine with it. So I started using it in my RL business and boy, never has it been this stress free.

Project Entropia taught me to always look deeper when someone at a meeting says “it’s dynamic”.

Entropia Universe taught me to fish.

not just illusion, but delusion? Oh, not just passive you mean, but that people can be deluded - and are, everywhere?

Interesting range of answers so far. What about the present and future? Are the same learnings there to be learnt, and what about in the future, do we think? I’ve always said I wouldn’t recommend EU, but it seems it can be a very varied experience - and more than just expensively negative.

Oh, @pheonix, I’m not an AI, just an I :stuck_out_tongue:

I rather depo money here than in a casino which was becoming a problem. I guess I learned I like to play and its not really about winning money.

I learned that if you want something you are better off just buying it - want a mayhem reward? want mushrooms to upgrade your fap - just buy it and you save a lot of money - takes some of the fun but trying to get your own mats for something tends to not work well - at least in my experience.

Pick a specialty and stick with it.

The relationships are some of the most valuable and important parts of this game.

I finally learned how to step away from something I’m obsessed with and be ok without it.

Hope you hear some other good stuff.

The best products often become corrupted and insufferable once the mindset shifts from the client experience to a profit mentality.

What i learnt ? Well I learned not to trust people so much. I didn’t got scammed yet (22 years) tho I will never give my items to a person that i don’t know IRL without colat.

Second thing. Not to try to convince a player he is wrong about hunting or mining (its same story they are not aware of how much markup they need to break even). I was right since 2007-2008 when i told few Romanians to stop chasing 20k atrox hofs and focus on markup (“no your avatar is lucky”).

  • You can make money by playing a game but you can make much more money by not playing a game
  • You can have a great concept, yet still fail to grow it properly due to no vision and incompetence
  • You can care less about customers (in certain businesses) because new ones will come anyways
  • Not gathering info from paying customers will lead to less customers
  • Mistakes made by you or the company will always be paid by you
  • Do not trust anyone when real money is involved (people think its not the same as stealing IRL)
  • Learn from the best, do not go through costly lessons because of your ego
  • If you want to be great at something, you have to be consistent and invest a lot of time
  • RCE games will never be mainstream
  • Companies try to survive by any mean necessary even if it means losing a certain % of customers
  • You can have a love-hate relationship with a game
  • 20 years can go by pretty fast
