[B]I’m sad this week because one of my Summer Term students died in an auto accident last week. A terrible tragedy, because 3 of the 5 young ladies died. She was an excellent student, and had a very promising life ahead of her at only 18 years of age.
Even though this could be a depressing thread, it’s not a bad thing to openly express sadness . . . helps put it in perspective sometimes.

[B]Ok … I hate to do this to you guys, but I have to update what I wrote earlier that made me sad this week.
I got a phone call this evening from my sister in Chicago telling me that she got a call from our niece in Florida (where I live) needing to talk with Mom who lives with my sister because she had bad news. Mom was actually over at our brother’s house in Chicago staying with him a couple of days, but lives less than 5 miles away … so the bad news had to be relayed.
The bottomline … just found out our oldest brother living in Florida is seriously ill with an abundance of cancer in his liver and colon, and the doctors told him today that there’s nothing more they can do for him. We did NOT know he was ill or had issues … he hates doctors … guess that’s why even HE didn’t know that he had a serious illness until it was too late. How old is he? … let’s just say young enough to have at least lived another 20 years or more if he hadn’t had such an aversion to doctors.
Here’s another bottomline … this is a wake-up call, and an opportunity to take some time to RE-think priorities.
WHAT IS TRULY IMPORTANT TO YOU …
I need to go back to the drawing board and determine whether I’m practicing what I preach to my students. Teaching psychology as long as I have is still eye-opening, but then there’s a time when life hits you smack in the face and wakes you the hell up, and you ask yourself if you’re doing everything you need to be doing right now.
Life isn’t guaranteed, so wasting it isn’t an option.
Sorry to take up so much space, but I needed to get this out, probably to preserve my emotional sanity for the night.
